VAPORELLA Dear Customer, Thank you for your confidence in buying this Polti product, which gives you perfect ironing in less time. Vaporella has been designed to ensure the best ironing comfort for you; its quality materials make it a reliable work-mate. The powerful jet of Vaporella steam acts on the fabrics eliminating the creases even before the soleplate passes over it. So it is no longer necessary to press on or iron repeatedly. Just let the iron slide over the garment to obtain perfect ironing, saving time and effort. With Vaporella it is possible to iron vertically to refresh fabrics and remove bad smells from jackets, clothes and overcoats. With the steam regulator you can select the right steam flow for different kinds of fabrics, thus increasing the operating time before refilling with just normal tapwater. Vaporella helps you to work safely. This product conforms with very strict regulations and is equipped with exclusive safety devices, among them the patented safety cap, which prevents the device being opened (including by accident) whilst there is slightest pressure inside the boiler. Please read these usage instructions carefully before using this product. We hope you enjoy using your Vaporella. ENGLISH 27

ENGLISH VAPORELLA Before storing the appliance make sure that it has completely cooled down. This appliance is equipped with safety devices which are to be replaced only by a suitably qualified technician. Do not direct the steam jet at people, animals or debris. Danger of burns! Never place your hands inside the jet of steam. Danger of burns! Do not put any detergent or chemical substance in the boiler. Water by its nature contains magnesium, mineral salts and other deposits which in hard water areas can contribute to limescale build-up in the tank. To avoid these problems, it is necessary to swill out with tapwater and empty the generator tank after every 3 or 4 uses. In hard water areas we recommend the use of KALSTOP, a special natural-base decalcifier which inhibits and breaks down limescale, making it easy to remove just by swilling out the tank with a little tapwater. This is a preventive against lime scale build-up and protects the metal walls of the steam generator tank. KALSTOP is available from Polti dealers or by mail-order from your Polti Service Centre. Do not try to unscrew the safety cap or empty the appliance whilst water in the boiler is still hot. Do not refill the boiler while it is still hot. Allow it to cool for a good few minutes before refilling. When REFILLING the generator boiler, use HOT, not cold water. Pour in gradually and gently at first and keep your face and other exposed skin well away. Otherwise the still hot boiler walls may spit drops of very hot water or steam spray. Make sure the patented safety cap is fully and correctly screwed on, otherwise you may experience steam escaping from around the cap. Check periodically the safety cap and MAKE SURE the rubber gasket is in place around the base of the screw thread. Replace with original spare parts if necessary. DO NOT USE STEAM FUNCTION if the rubber gasket is not in position. If you iron sitting down, do not place your legs under the ironing board, the steam can cause burns. Iron only on heat resistant surfaces and on surfaces that allow the steam to escape e.g. MESH ironing boards. For iron mat replacement use only original spare parts. IMPORTANT Before leaving our factory all our products are rigorously tested. For this reason your Vaporella may contain a small quantity of remaining water in the tank. CORRECT USE OF THE PRODUCT This appliance is intended for home use as a steam generator as described and in accordance with the instructions provided in this manual. Please read these instructions carefully and keep them, as you may find them useful in future. Polti declines liability for any damage or accident derived from any use of Vaporella which is not in conformity with the instructions contained in this booklet. 28

VAPORELLA ATTENTION Directive 2002/96/EC (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment - WEEE): information for users This product complies with EU Directive 2002/96/EC. For more information on available collection facilities, contact your local waste collection service or the shop where you bought this appliance. PREPARATION FOR USE 1a. Open the roller shutter cover (13) by moving downwards as shown (fig. 1). 2a. Fit the flex holder (12) to the appliance. Place the combined steam iron flex (8) into the support (fig. 2). 3a. Unscrew the patented safety cap (1) and fill the boiler with about 1.3 litres of water using the special funnel (15) making sure that it does not overflow (fig. 3). Normal tapwater can be used. However, as hard water by its nature contains limestone, which may cause a build-up of limescale in the tank, in hard water areas we recommend the use of our naturalbase decalcifier KALSTOP FP 2003. 4a. Retighten the cap fully and carefully. EMake the patented safety cap (1) is fully and correctly screwed on, otherwise you may experience steam escaping from around the cap. 5a. Insert the removable supply cable plug into the built-in socket on the appliance (fig. 4). Plug the appliance into an earthed power supply of the correct voltage (fig. 5). IMPORTANT: always make sure that the continuous steam jet switch (10a) is not switched on. 6a. Switch on the boiler and iron by pressing the switches (2) and (3). The pressure indicator light (5) will light up (fig. 6). INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Check the manufacturer s label on the garment, and interpret the symbol on the label as follows: Steam ironing allowed--set the dial to its MAXIMUM travel at the end of the 3 dots symbol on your Polti iron Steam ironing allowed--set the dial to its MAXIMUM travel at the end of the TH- REE (nb THREE, not two) dots symbol on your Polti iron DRY IRON only, with iron dial set at one dot. N.B. NEVER CALL FOR STEAM BY PRESSING STEAM REQUEST BUTTON when DRY ironing. See special instructions for DRY ironing in the instruction book. DO NOT IRON. Neither steam nor dry ironing allowed. 1b. For STEAM ironing, set the iron temperature to its maximum travel on the COT- TON - LINEN steam position (fig.7), by turning the knob (7). NB Set at its maximum, do NOT set against the picture of iron on the dial (7). Most fabric types, other than delicates can be STEAM-ironed at this temperature, ENGLISH 29

ENGLISH VAPORELLA please consult the garment label. If you want to DRY iron, set the knob (7) to the required temperature for the fabric as, shown on the dial. Nb fabric indications on dial are for DRY ironing, for STEAM ironing set at maximum travel as explained above. 2b. Wait for the pressure indicator light (5) to go out (about 15 minutes). Push the button (10) on the iron to release bursts of steam from the holes on the soleplate. Release the button and the steam will stop (fig.8). NOTE: during initial operation of the iron, a few drops of water mixed with steam may come out of the soleplate until the temperature stabilises. It is advisable to direct the first jets of steam onto an old cloth until a uniform stable jet of steam is obtained. RECOMMENDED TECHNIQUE for STEAM ironing with Polti iron is APPLY steam (button 10) on the upstroke, then release button (10) (so no steam) for the backstroke, so reclosing the fibres, preventing oversteaming and wetness. 3b. By turning the steam flow control knob (6) you can vary the amount of steam according to the type of textile to be ironed (more or less delicate). You can use this control to increase the steam flow by turning in anti-clockwise direction. Turning the control in a clockwise direction reduces the steam flow (fig.9). 4b. When there is no more steam to release, the water level light will come on (4). See the patented safety cap / Water out paragraph. 5b. The appliance is equipped with a rigid iron rest mat (11) (fig.10) which can be removed and put elsewhere if required. NOTE: The steam pressure indicator (5) may go on and off from time to time during use of Vaporella. This means the machine is maintaining the correct and constant pressure and is quite normal. If no steam is released from the iron, check the following: the steam pressure indicator (5) is off; there is water in the boiler; the steam regulation knob (6) is set to one of the Steam settings. PATENTED SAFETY CAP / WATER OUT This appliance is equipped with the unique Polti patented safety cap, which prevents opening of the generator tank as long as there is any pressure remaining inside the tank. This is an important and indispensable safety device, and it is necessary to follow certain procedures when re-filling the tank. Lack of water is indicated by the out of water indicator light (4), which goes on. When you have used up all the water in the tank, do as follows: 1d. Switch off the Illuminated generator switch (2). 2d. Press the steam request button on the iron (10) so as to fully exhaust the steam supply from the tank. 3d. Switch off the Illuminated iron switch (3). 4d. Disconnect the power supply cable from the mains. 5d. Unscrew anti-clockwise the patented safety cap (1). 6d. Wait for a few minutes to allow the generator tank to cool down. 7d. WHEN COOL proceed to carefully refill the tank as described in paragraph 1a of the section PREPARATION FOR USE in the instructions. If refilling the generator when not completely cooled, we recommend that you carefully pour only very small quantities of water at each pouring into the tank, so as to avoid spitting from the tank. 30
