EMPTYING BEMIS VAC-U-PORT CANISTERS 1. Disconnect The Bemis Vac-U-Port Canister From Its Circuit. Remove connecting tubing from Vac-U-Port Canister. This tubing may contain residual fluid. Follow hospital policy for disposal of contaminated items. Transport to the Vac-U-Station per hospital policy. 2 2. Place Bemis Vac-U-Port Canister In Receptacle of Vac-U-Station Align the arrow on the front of the Bemis Vac-U-Port canister with the arrow on the front of the receptacle. Canister should fit snugly in holder. Uncap any port except for the vacuum port. 3 3. Place Clamp Head Over Canister Cover Adjust the height of the clamp head by pulling out the pin on the side and raise it up or down until it is just above the canister cover. Then, turn the clamp head until it is over the canister cover. 4 4. Drain Canister Rotate the handle on the right side of the unit toward the front of the machine approximately 115 degrees. As the handle is turned, the clamp head will come down holding the canister in place. The canister will be opened on the bottom and will begin to drain. 2
5 5. Return Handle To Original Position Once the canister has been emptied, return the handle back to the vertical or OFF position. This will release the clamp and start draining the fluid from the machine into the sanitary sewer system. 6 6. Remove Canister Push the clamp head out of the way so that the canister can be lifted up out of the machine. Recap open port, then tip the canister slightly toward you as you remove it. Dispose of canister according to hospital policy. A spray hose is included to rinse canister before removal if desired. 7 7. Check Reservoir After draining canisters, look through the translucent plastic in the middle of the machine where the drained fluid was collected. If the reservoir is dirty, turn the handle as if to drain a canister. This will activate spray hoses inside of the reservoir to rinse it out. Let run until the reservoir is clean. 3
Cleaning and Maintenance The Vac-U-Station Fluid Management System has been designed with ease of use and maintenance in mind. The convenient clear reservoir allows you to easily see how clean the Vac-U-Station is on the inside. If there is a build up of particles or viscous fluid on the clear walls of this reservoir after draining canisters, the user should turn the handle to the ON position. This will use the Vac-U-Stations internal spray heads to self clean this reservoir, with little effort by the user. Daily Maintenance Procedures Mix a neutral ph enzymatic cleaner with cold water in a 3000cc Vac-U-Port Canister according to enzymatic cleaner directions. Drain canister on the Vac-U-Station. Leave the Vac-U-Station on until the entire reservoir has filled with water. Once reservoir is full, turn the Vac-U-Station off, remove canister and dispose. Weekly Maintenance Procedures Depending on the number of canisters emptied, this may need to be done more often. If a foul order comes from the Vac-U-Station, increase the frequency of this disinfection procedure. Mix a neutral ph disinfectant in a 3000cc Vac-U-Port canister according to the disinfectant s directions. Drain canister on the Vac-U-Station. Leave the Vac-U-Station on until the entire reservoir has filled with water. Once reservoir is full, turn the Vac-U-Station off, remove canister and dispose of according to hospital policy. Yearly Maintenance Once a year the moving parts of the Vac-U-Station should be relubricated. All seals should be checked for wear and replaced if necessary. See Use and Care Manual for more information. 4
