INTRODUCTION & TIMELINE SCENARIO 2D REMINDER OF THE CABINET DECISION In November 2015 Lambeth s cabinet decided to go ahead with the partial redevelopment of Knight s Walk and Scenario 2D to provide more and better homes in the area. PARTIAL REDEVELOPMENT Scenario 2D agreed the demolition of 18 of the low rise homes with the surrounding properties retained and up to 64 additional homes provided (a total of 82 new homes), subject to planning. Lambeth wrote to every household to confi rm this decision. NEXT STEPS Since scenario 2D was approved by Cabinet, the Development Management Team have been developing the designs. The time-line below demonstrates the full process of the partial redevelopment. We are now at the developing design stage and are gathering feedback and comments from residents and neighbours of Knight s Walk to shape the detailed designs of the partial redevelopment. LANDSCAPE OPTIONS FOR Larger paving blocks to define Squares Contrasting materials suggest a walkway cutting through a square enhancing wayfinding within an area. Small size paving blocks for vehicle areas. Small size paving blocks can define entrances to homes. Paving that curves around retained planting. Door step play provision to have informal character Example image from study trip showing a peaceful and quiet walk. POINTS FROM THE RESIDENTS BRIEF Avoid parking becoming a large visual feature of the open space (but retain existing parking provision). Maintain Knights Walk and Kempsford Road as public routes Maintain quiet walking and cycling routes through the estate. The central walkway of the estate to feel peaceful. Provide open, green public spaces and planting that are lovely to look at even if not used. Communal spaces to be designed with distinct zones for different users. Provide seating in areas that will be well overlooked in order to avoid antisocial behaviour Friendly, welcoming atmosphere to keep the village feel. Paving stones small, safe to walk on and less likely to crack. Keep as many of the older trees as possible and integrate into the new landscape A piece of private space outside front doors so that they don t open straight onto public space. Design to avoid motorcyclists riding through estate without the use of unsightly barriers. Using well defined planting to mark entrances Sketch view of communal garden offering spaces for play, socialising and gardening.
