Safety instructions 2 Safety instructions The complete information of this chapter must be observed by all persons working with the herein described product. The safety instructions are valid for the complete life cycle of the product. 2.1 Working conditions Use the product only when it is in proper working condition. 2.1.1 Intended use Intended use No other use permitted The vacuum pumping unit of the product series VAC 24seven, consisting of Control module and Pump module, is intended for generating vacuum in industrial plants. The vacuum pumping unit may only be used in non-explosive areas. Any other use is considered to be improper use. Intended use also includes the following: observing safety information of document Safety Information for Vacuum Equipment, observing the complete manual, regarding the inspection and maintenance intervals, observing the manuals of connected elements and peripherals. 2.1.2 Improper use Improper use Using the product in contrary to its intended use could result in injury or damage to property. Safety instructions Improper use using the product in an uncomplete state, the usage in a non-commercial environment, as far as at operational side not all necessary safety measures have been taken, use in mining, to pump unstable substances which react explosively under impact and/or with elevated temperatures where explosive reactions may occur, to pump, to convey and to compress solids or fluids. 2.1.3 Foreseeable misuse Prohibited usage Additionally to improper use there are types of use dealing with the product, which are generally prohibited: Prohibited types of usage are in particular: the usage on humans or animals, unauthorized modifications, in particular, if safety is affected, to operate the vacuum pumping unit with coarse tool or sharp instrument, to pull out plug-connections by its cable, to steam-clean the vacuum pumping unit, using the product for generating compressed air. to pump oxidising and pyrophoric substances. using VACUU CONTROL without knowledge of the connected vacuum system. 14 N : 999287_EN_VAC_24seven_System/27.11.2017

Safety instructions 2.2 Obligations 2.2.1 Operator obligations Determine responsibility Operator obligations The operator has to define the personnel responsibility and ensures that only instructed, or skilled persons may work at the vacuum system. This applies in particular to connection, assembly and maintenance work and fault remedy. The operator has to ensure compliance with the prescribed limits, the specified ambient conditions, and the distance around the vacuum pumping unit. For commissioning, the operator has to instruct the network connection by a local electrician. It is the operators obligation to take necessary precautions, in particular for machines which run twenty-four-seven without constant supervision, e. g., fire protection. 2.2.2 Staff obligations Staff obligations For workings that require protective clothing, wear your personal protection equipment which is specified by the operators regulations. In case of error the personnel (staff) is obliged to inform the responsible supervisor immediately. In case of improper state of the machine it has to be secured from being switched on again. Work in a safety-conscious manner Personal responsibility Personal safety has top priority! Processes which create a potentially hazardous situation are not allowed. > > Use the vacuum pumping unit only, if you have understood the manual and the function principle of the machine. Always be conscious of safety, and work in a safe manner. Observe the owners directives at work, the national accident prevention regulations and occupational safety provisions. Safety instructions 2.3 Target groups IMPORTANT! Ensure that the vacuum pumping unit is only operated by authorized and skilled personnel. Users need to have the corresponding skills and qualifications for doing the jobs listed in the table Responsibility Assignment Matrix (RACI). Safety instructions 2.3.2 VACUUBRAND Service department In addition to the jobs that can be performed by the local staff during operation, there are tasks that are performed by VACUUBRAND service staff only. Safety instructions 2.5 ATEX category Installation and explosive environment Installation and operation in areas where explosive atmosphere can occur is not allowed. ATEX category ATEX equipment labeling VACUUBRAND products with label II 3G IIC T3 X Internal Atm. only; Tech. File Ref.: VAC-EX01. VACUUBRAND products which are labeled with ` have an ATEX approval 3 G; i. e. flammable substances as mixture with air: Pumped gas or vapor. >Use > the VACUUBRAND product only when it is in proper working condition. ATEX category and peripherals ATEX approval 1 is only valid for the internal, wetted parts area (vacuum sensor), not for the environment of the controller. The ATEX category of the VACUUBRAND product is dependent on the connected peripheral devices. Peripherals and connected devices to the controller need to have the same or higher ATEX approval. Without concordant categorization of peripherals, the specified category of the VACUUBRAND equipment loses its validity. Prevent ignition source The operation of venting valves is only permitted if thereby explosive atmospheres normally do not occur in the interior wettet part of the VAC 24seven or, if they do occur, are likely to do so only infrequently and for a short period. >If > necessary vent with inert gas. After any intervention at the equipment, e. g., repair or maintenance the ultimate vacuum of the vacuum pump(s) hast to be checked. Only if the unit achieves its specified ultimate vacuum is the pump s leak rate low enough to ensure that no explosive atmospheres will occur in the interior of the equipment. After any intervention at the vacuum sensor, the leak rate of the equipment has to be checked. Safety instructions 2.6 Safety precautions in general Quality standards and safety Products of VACUUBRAND GMBH + CO KG are subject to high quality tests with goals for safety and operation. Prior to delivery each product has been tested thoroughly. Despite this, when using the product unforeseen problems might occur that could result in injury or damage to property. Compare the following sources of danger and take appropriate safety measures for protection. 2.6.1 Protective clothing Protective clothing For the operation in uncritical environment no special protective clothing is required. Observe the operator regulation for workplaces for wearing special protective clothing. For cleaning works we recommend to wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety goggles. IMPORTANT! > > Be sure to observe the local requirements for decontamination. > > Wear your personal protective equipment when handling chemical materials. 2.6.2 Eliminate sources of danger Avoid sources of error during connection Sources of error during connection Particles, liquids or dust may not get into the vacuum pumping unit. >Install > a suitable separator the inlet of the system, if necessary. Condensate could influence the measurement accuracy of the vacuum sensor or damage inner parts of the vacuum pump, e. g., pumping heads. No condensate may flow backwards into the vacuum sensor or pumping head. No fluids may accumulate in the exhaust tube or flow back into the outlet pipe. >Install > connection tubes in a way that no condensate may accumulate or flow back into the outlet. >Prevent > the backflow of condensates and if necessary use a trap, separator, or an extraction system at the outlet. Safety instructions Potential dangers resulting from improper connections Sources of error during connection At the outlet of the vacuum pump a higher pressure may exist which, if blocked, could lead to bursting of the system. The connections for inlet and outlet (IN/EX) must not be interchanged. >Avoid > overpressure at the suction connection; max. 1,1 bar (825 Torr) absolute permissible. >Ensure > that the vacuum system and its tube connections are installed mechanically stable. Burst hazard, if the dimension of outlet tubes is too small or the outlet line is blocked. >Use > a exhaust pipe with a diameter which is at least equal to the width of the connecting flange. >Install > the exhaust line without shut-off devices; free and pressureless line. DANGER Hazardous substances could emit at the outlet. Through the outlet line hazardous substances could be emitted into the ambient air during pumping. > > Observe the national regulations for safe handling of hazardous substances. > > Connect the outlet line to an exhaustion system. Machine description 3.1.1 Design and equipment Modular design One vacuum pumping unit of the product series VAC 24seven consists of 1 control box named Control module and with at least 1 up to maximally 3 Pump modules. The system modularity makes it possible to re-equip one vacuum pumping unit with 1 or 2 further pump modules, in order to adapt application requirements and/or to increase the vacuum performance. Equipment Each pump module comprises 2 chemically resistant diaphragm pumps for generating vacuum. The diaphragm pumps are equiped with VARIO drives for motor speed control. Pump modules are equiped with inlet catch pots. These are front mounted for easy level monitoring and access. The vacuum pumping unit has adjustable feet. For monitoring operation a signal lamp is mounted on top of the Control module. For monitoring the pressure an external vacuum sensor is provided.
