The Turnkey Solution for all kind of Ships
General Safety and Security s and concepts for safety and security are becoming increasingly important in modern times. The change in the worldwide political situation including terrorism and the existing piracy danger, results in new regulations contrary to these threats. All kinds of ships and their cargo require control and protection. Especially cruise tourism is still a growing business. More and more passengers are enjoying the pleasure of a cruise, either on short trips or longer voyages. Thorough checks at the airports have become routine. What is true for aviation is equally important for passenger ships. Further protective measures are needed not only for emergencies but also as a protection against external threats. Entertainment The range of entertainment systems varies from stand-alone applications up to complete integrated multipurpose systems. These integrated systems normally consist of very different components from different suppliers including different standards. The challenge is to interface all these systems and to be the one who is the responsible supplier for the resulting integrated system. That is what we will do. Even finding the best solution to satisfy the requirements of all parties is a challenge. Due to the fast changing and improvements of electronics a specialist who knows the market and possibilities as well as the needs of ship owners could define the best solution. The Turnkey Solution Our supply could vary from a single stand-alone system up to a complete supply of all electronic equipment as one turnkey solution. The turnkey solution means that we will accompany the customer from the first design phase. We will define the specification together. The engineering will be done with our own developed CAD tools in the most fast and flexible way. Building phase including cable supplying and laying is included. Commissioning, sea trials and the standardised documentation as well as the after sales service will be done in a smooth trouble-free way to the complete satisfaction of the customer. 2
Safety s Fire Detection For addressable and conventional configurations we have a long time of experience in our company. We provide not only our own developed fire detection system, we can also handle systems from other manufacturers. Our system is available as central or de-central controlled one. As the cabling for a fire detection system is always a stand-alone, the de-central system reduces the required mass of cables and increases the safety by redundant functionality. Especially for the new Safe Return to Port regulations we provide a system including: n Interfacing to other systems e.g. CCTV, automatic telephone and paging system is a standard feature n Integration of fire- and flooding doors and sprinkler panels. If required also fire damper and ventilation n PC based control of the fire detection system in addition to mimic panels n Features like room in room alarm, combined detectors with integrated buzzers and an easy to handle control and program software n s with up to more than 100 loops and more than 2000 detectors Sound Powered Telephones Power independent telephones for emergency communication. Combined General Alarm and Public Address Automatic and manually controlled general alarm. Combined with the Public Address. Public Address including a wide range of features as background music, local sound stations and microphone input. Announcements and background music is selectable for predefined zones as public areas, crew and passenger cabins. Of course an alarm will always have priority and mute all sounds in the PA/GA system and will also give mute signals via interface to other systems for muting for example the TV sets, cinema, theatre and music bands. SMS Safety Management (SMS) SMS describes the basic document set for each vessel s strategy of safety. Due to the increasing complexity of safety systems, the number of system and sensor information and the increasing size of ships, an easy to handle system with the functionality of predefined emergency solutions is needed onboard. This system could vary from big paper schedules on a roll up to a computer based solution which would be designed to the specific customer requirements. The system, with integrated sub-systems, will be the main monitoring and control platform for nearly all safety and security systems. Special Guidance for Crew and Passengers in case of an emergency situation, an intuitive understandable guidance system, which even works in smoked areas is required. This could be done by the well known Low level lighting system and a new developed. Special Sound Guidance which guides persons by special sound signals to the emergency exits. Special Communication for Crew only The so called internal communication could consist of different systems and has to fulfil classification requirements. Talk Back in various configurations, characteristics and functionality. For the wireless internal communication are two main handheld systems standard: MSG UHF/VHF Walkie- Talkie which could be easily interfaced to other communication and alarm system as the Paging which could be used in addition or instead of the Walkie Talkies. A modern version which could replace both two handheld systems is a digital UHF communication system. For this see page Security s. 3
Security s Security Access Control including control for crew, passengers and luggage boarding the vessel and entering restricted areas on the ship. n Identification system upon embarkation of passengers and crew n Metal detectors for passenger checks on embarkation n X-Ray equipment for screening baggage n Designation of appropriately secured restricted areas where access is limited to selected persons (i.e. navigational bridge, communications center, engine room, administrative spaces) n Identification system (chip card system) with access categories. The chip card could ID be used as an onboard ID card with cash card functionlity. Other identification methods like finger print, iris check and automatic face recognition via camera are possible. n Automatic door locking system with numerical coding, magnetic card, biometric (finger print and iris scan) are available with on- and offline door lock mechanisms CCTV Camera for surveillance of gangways, main access ways, public, working and high risk areas including a studio with harddisk recording. Other cameras for special purposes are mast, under water and infrared cameras. Features like distribution of the mast camera picture to the Internet and to the TV system for an onboard channel are standards. Stabilised Camera for security and navigational use with autotracking, night-sight possibility prepared for surveillance purposes is also deliverable. This camera could be interfaced to the radar. s for Special Purposes are standard. These systems are the n Sauna alarm n Hospital alarm n Cold store lock in alarm n Disabled persons alarm n Prison call / communication n Deaf impaired alarm Well defined Patrol systems are also required for harbour and n Fire patrol n Watchman patrol n Security personnel patrol Security office on-board Costa Victoria 0101100111 0 11 Digital Handheld UHF The functionality of a Walkie-Talkie and Paging system could be combined in a digital handheld system. This system provides new features like full duplex and encrypted communication. The handhelds are used in the same way as GSM mobile phones. Anti Terrorist Lighting with illumination of deck and hull for a 360 zone of glare projected light. This feature could be very helpful in times of terrorism and pirates shipping. 4
Communication s Automatic Telephone Central and de-central versions are available. The customer can choose from a wide range of telephones and system configurations. This digital system is easy to handle onboard via PC. The system could be configured with digital or analog extensions or a combination of both. Telephones could be delivered with a terminal adapter providing a modem connection to the ships network. The telephone system will be interfaced to or from other communication and safety system with possible restrictions, if required depending on the wishes of the customer. Interfacing with Walkie-Talkie, Paging, GSM, fire detection and other alarm system or integration of a watch man round control is standard. Communication links via VSAT, FBB Fleet 77, shore connection, Inmarsat-M, Inmarsat B or GSM phones for data and voice transmission have been done by us a lot of times. The DECT Telephone is an additional part of the telephone system and includes the same performance as the wired phones. A DECT system gives an advantage for luxury cabins and crew communication. The DECT phone can be used throughout the whole ship. Computer Network for all Data Transfer is one of the most important networks on-board cruise ships. Due to new developments a Computer Network will not only be used for data transmission. It also will be the net for telephone, video, music, hotel computers and more. These wide range of transmission possibilities are founded in the big bandwidth of modern computer networks, using newest components, cables including fibre optic cables in between the main servers. With this wide range of functionality on just one net a massive reduction of the total required cable networks, cable weights and length results. WiFi Technology The WiFi is technically mature now. Hotspots are state-of-the-art and are available in most airports and other public spaces. Also onboard ships the WiFi hotspots will give the passenger a chance to communicate with his own hardware to the Internet or just the ships Intranet. WiFi will also be used to reduce network cables onboard ships and to have more flexibility for arranging components that need to be connected to the network. Alternatively for some applications also the BLUETOOTH technology will provide a new freedom in the ship design and the possibility to reduce cables. Also VoIP telephony via WiFi antennas is done in many projects and works fine as an alternative to DECT systems. Voice over IP (VoIP) transmission which gives the possibility to run the telephone communication on the computer network. This feature gives the advantage to reduce the cable network as in areas with VoIP telephones, the existing computer network will be used for call transmission without any reduction in quality. The power supply for the VoIP phones could be done from the network hubs via the network data line. VSAT s are used in addition to the standard marine satellite communication. VSAT systems providing a large bandwidth and a transmission possibility nearly all over the world. Large data amounts are not only required for internet cafes or passengers emails and telephone calls onboard. For the reason of the large number of systems onboard, with the functionality of remote maintenance with a 24 hour a day online connection via VSAT the reliability of every remote maintainable system will be increased. Helicopter Communication / Homing facilities are stand-alone systems which round up our program of delivery. Other communication systems, as Walkie-Talkie, Paging, Talk-Back and Digital Handheld are described in the chapters: Safety / Security s. 5
Entertainment s Integrated Background Music The trend in ship design shows that the Public Address will not only be a safety system any more. The system will be used to distribute information and music to selectable public areas, crew and passenger cabins. Local sound systems could be connected on predefined locations and use the PA loudspeakers in selectable areas for signal distribution. Also the signal could be transferred to the onboard radio channels. A Music on Demand server is one of the possible sources for background music. Special Light and Sound for Theatre, Cinema and Public Areas is important on passenger ship and includes a very large wide range of products from: n Theatre, video beamers, audio and light n Conference equipment n Light control and mixer n Sound control and mixer n Distribution of events e.g. theatre and shows to the ships TV system TV-Distribution and Head End will be done by using different sources as terrestrial TV antennas, TVSat antennas, DVDs and / or the more advanced Video on Demand system. The distribution will be done by a studio for editing and broadcasting of TV-programs. The channels available for crew and passengers will be defined separately. The use of the Coax network for the normal modulated channels could be supplemented by using the computer network for the Video on Demand streaming. Flat Screen TV sets, with stereo loud speakers are state of the art for passenger cabins. Video and Music on Demand The VoD is not only interesting for streaming videos individually to passenger and crew cabins. It runs via the computer network and requires a set top box or PC in the cabin. This small set top box could be delivered with a wireless keyboard for some easy to handle extra functions like writing and reading emails, booking reservations for land trips or a table in a restaurant onboard. A lot of other functions are available. The important reason to integrate such a system, is the potential for a return on investment in a few years. Passenger Information The system is interfaced to the real navigation data retrieving data from ECDIS, GPS, and the weather station. This data could be filtered and reduced to the range and accuracy, the passengers are allowed to know. Directly on the main station or via an interface to the hotel computer system, general information and information like available trips and booking possibilities, weather forecast and route could be shown. For the distribution the system could be interfaced to the TV system or Video on Demand server for in result displaying the information on the TV sets in cabins and public spaces. Also large displays and multimedia walls or standard computers as information points in public areas are standard places for keeping passengers informed. Hotel Computer is one of the most important systems to handle thousands of passengers onboard a cruise ship. This system must be interfaced to other systems as cashier system, restaurants, telephone, door locking system, video on demand server. It is the main system to collect data for preparing the passengers bill at the end of the trip. Centralised Clock A centralised clock system gives the possibility to have the same exact synchronised time everywhere onboard a ship. The system could also include very decorative designed clocks according to the customers requirement. 6
