The test was based on the European standard EN 1365-2:1999 in compliance with NEN 6069: 2005 and performed on April 24, 2007. E-mail arjo.lock@efectis.com Direct dialling (015) 27 63289 Direct fax (015) 27 63479 Efectis Nederland BV: a TNO Company The ceiling/floor construction was assembled at our laboratory and consisted of wooden studs with two layers of Fireline plasterboard on the fire side and chipboard on the non fire side. The dimensions of the construction were 1650 x 1650 x 150 mm. On top of the construction there was not any load applied. The test was only performed to check the integrity of the Elko flush mountings boxes with the Envirograf intumescent gaskets. The Standard Conditions for Research Instructions given to Efectis, as filed at he Registry of the District Court and the Chamber of Commerce in The Hague shall apply to all instructions given to TNO; the Standard Conditions will be sent on request. 1 This report is issued by the TNO company Efectis Nederland BV (previously TNO Centre for Fire Research). TNO decided, in response to international developments and requests by customers, to collaborate with two European Egolf partners, both highly experienced in fire safety: the Norwegian Sintef/NBL and the French CTICM. Thus, through scaling up, a more comprehensive service of high quality and a wider range of facilities can be offered. In order to achieve this, the fire safety related activities of the partners involved have been privatised in this collaboration. With respect to TNO this has lead to the privatisation on the 1 st of July of the activities of the TNO Centre for Fire Research via the establishment of the company Efectis Nederland BV.
The frame of the construction was made of five wooden studs (timber) and covered with two layers of Fireline plasterboard. The fireside was applied with one joint in the Fireline plasterboard. At the fireside of the construction four Norwegian Flush Mounting Boxes were implemented which were fitted with intumescent gaskets of Envirograf, type 30 which expands during a fire. At the non-fireside a layer of chipboard was used to simulate a floor. 2/13 Specifications of ceiling/floor construction (see drawing 1): - Timber dimension 130 x 50 mm - Fireline Plasterboard thickness 15 mm (2 layers) - Chipboard thickness 25 mm Specification of Flush Mounting Boxes (photo 4): - 2 of product code 32/246 Item No. 4026. - 2 of product code 64/246 Item No. 4027 Test setup The construction was placed on top of our preliminary furnace which was equipped with three temperature sensors and a pressure device. The ceiling/floor construction was applied with ten surface thermocouples (see figure C1). Observations during the fire test Time Side Observation [min] 0 Start heating 5 N Smoke coming from the construction 10 N Smoke from joint in the floor 22 N Smoke coming from the edge at the backside at position A 32 N More smoke coming from the edges and moist visible at position B 40 N Light deforming of the chipboard at pos. A and more smoke at pos. C 62 N Also smoke at position D and A 70 N More deforming of the chipboard 70 N End of heating
Assessment We expect that a ceiling/floor construction of timber and covered with Fireline plasterboard on the fireside and chipboard on the non-fireside and provided with Norwegian flush mounting boxes fitted with Envirograf in tumescent gaskets will have a fire resistance according to NEN 6069: 2005 of at least 60 minutes under the conditions: 3/13 the timber has at least the same dimensions, 130 x 50 mm; two layers of Fireline plasterboard is used with a total thickness of 30 mm; the chipboard has a thickness of 25 mm; the boxes are fitted with Envirograf product 30. At the next pages the observations, graphs of the test results and some photographs made during the assemblage and the fire test are enclosed. I hope we have informed you completely with this brief letter report. Yours faithfully, A.J.
