Hollyhock Summer 2018 From the Co-President The Deadline for August Newsletter Articles is Friday Aug. 10, 2018 As we near the half mark of this year we as Rogers County Master Gardeners can look back at our year with pride in the accomplishments we have made. We spent 93 hours teaching the children through the Master Gardeners in the Classroom, reaching out to 1657 students with 15 volunteers. We helped make the Home and Garden Show a spectacular event, we had a wonderful plant sale and then to top it off we looked fantastic on the Safenet Garden Tour. If I can quote a fellow master gardener in an email she sent. "It has been work but so much fun, too. It certainly has been worth it. Such a bunch of hard workers and so creative too. Wow it is something. I am so proud to be a member of this bunch. It is without doubt something to be proud of." Hopefully she does not mind me using her quote. We still have lots of work to do this year as well. We have the upcoming Fall Event for the Teaching Gardens. Please put your thinking caps on and volunteer your time or information so we can make this event help pay for the next features in the Teaching Garden. We still have lots to do. We will be opening the Teaching Garden up to the public this month. That in itself is a great accomplishment. Again I say Thanks to all of you for your support and time and talent. Carolyn Peterson Co-president Treasurer s Report HH June started in full gear with our participation in the 23rd Safenet Garden Tour, generating some additional plant sales at the Teaching Gardens. Congratulations to all who participated in such an altruistic event. From May to June, we have provided the documentation to remain in a non-for-profit status with the IRS, and paid our dues to the Oklahoma Tax Commission to carry a sales tax permit. Our ending balance as of 5/30/18 is $11,973 in the main bank account. As the new Summer season is about to start in full gear, stay cool and keep spreading seeds of environmental stewardship. Keukenhof Gardens April 2018 Henry Harrison Keukenhof (English: "Kitchen garden"), also known as the Garden of Europe, is one of the world's largest flower gardens, situated in Lisse, South Holland, Netherlands. Open 8 weeks per year. Keukenhof Park plants approximately 7 million flower bulbs annually in the park, which covers an area of 79 acres I visited the gardens in late April of this year. This was my second visit to the garden. I was one of 1.4 million to visit in 2018. Tulip Growers fields in route to Keukenhof. There were miles of these fields of every color. Entrance to gardens I would have show more pictures but the newsletter has digital size constraints Page 4 of 6 pages
