Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts Mission The UICA builds creative community by fostering new forms of expression, promoting collaboration, and providing genuine experiences with contemporary art. Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts has a variety of unique spaces that can be explored individually, or connected in various combinations. These spaces provide a range of environments that lend themselves to artwork installations that are site-specific, media, and traditional. We are looking for original and creative work that is professional and thought provoking. We seek to provide art experiences that enhance the cultural community, and catalyze exploration. Thank you for your interest. We look forward to hearing from you! Facade Project Space The Facade Project Space is an latticed structure covering the parking area above the UICA that incoporates live plants. There is an opportunity to attach lightweight 3-dimensional objects to the Facade Project Space. This space is approximately 40 tall and 100 long on the northern side, and 80 long on the eastern facing side.

Lobby Project Space The Lobby Project Space is inside the main entrance of the UICA. This location is visible from the exterior of the building, as well as from the interior. Artwork can be hung from the suspension points in the ceiling or incorporated with the upper wall. The wall is 39 7 long and 12 tall. The space in front of the wall is 12 wide x 12 tall x 39 7 long. This space is 12 above the floor.

Ramp Project Space The Ramp Project Space encompasses a wall 95 long and 22 5 tall. The wall faces the window that runs along Fulton Street. The artwork is visible from the street, and lends its self to murals. This exhibition space is in a walkway, so the installation can have a relief of no more that 5 inches.

Alcove Project Space The Alcove Project Space is a recessed vignette that can house artwork that is volumetric or that can stand alone. It is 16 3 wide and 4 3 tall with a depth of 2 1. There is an electrical outlet on one side. The niche has recessed lighting above, as well as track lighting in front.

Over Space The Over Space is an open, wall-free volume of space located above the Film Theatre Lounge and In Space. It can be viewed from Level One and the Lower Level. The space is approximately 12 x 24 and can accomodate work up to 10 tall. Suspension points are located in the ceiling.

In Space The In Space is located in the Lower Level, within the Film Theatre Lounge, and can be seen from the main floor above. The In Space lies beneath the Over Space. This is a recessed area built into the concrete floor, covered by glass, and lit by a programmable RGB LED lighting system. The space is 2 deep, 11 7 long, and 2 3 wide.

South Wall Project Space The South Wall Project Space is located on the south end of the Film Theatre Lounge, and can be viewed from Level One and the Lower Level. This wall is 23 4 tall and 16 11 wide. This location may be combined with the Over Space and/or In Space.

Terrace Space Perched above the busiest intersection of downtown Grand Rapids, UICA s outdoor terrace is 120 x 30. It faces east and overlooks the rise of Fulton Street.
