Crystal Pool & Wellness Centre Stakeholder Engagement Hosted by April 25 th, 2018
What We Will Be Presenting Today Summary of input gained through the February 2018 public engagement and online survey. Revised site and building configuration based on input received and ongoing consultation with stakeholders and City staff.
What We Would Like to Hear From You Today Do refinements made to the design improve or match the specific needs of the group you represent? Are there additional items that we should consider as we continue to refine the design? Please provide feedback at the indicated locations on the presentation boards

Design Considerations
Critical Design Considerations Enhance barrier free access for a range of abilities Enhance inclusivity Maximize retention of existing trees Enhance the experience of swimming in the trees Enhance the approach and entry experience to the building Flexible aquatic and dry land programming Low carbon building operation Efficient mechanical systems that provide good air and water quality High performance building envelope
Existing Facility
Location of New Facility Highlights No shutdown period during construction Existing sport courts and play features to be considered in future park plan
Future Park Plan Highlights Building location maximizes open space available for future park Input for future park plan is being gathered in parallel with the building design process
Relationship to Existing Trees Highlights The building is shaped by the space between existing trees and retains most of them The experience of swimming in the park is enhanced Opportunity for increased planting in future park plan
Building Organization Highlights Natatorium situated between the existing groves of trees Dry land programs situated to the west along Quadra Street
Building Concept Highlights Views to existing trees and new park space are central to the building configuration Natatorium opens up to the park on three sides to enhance the experience of swimming in the park Eyes on the street from the upper level
Building Roof Highlights Roof unites dry land and aquatic spaces Opportunities for natural light from above
Building Orientation Highlights Natatorium gets diffused north light Existing trees provide shading along south and east
Urban Connections Highlights Entry is located closer to parking and connected to Quadra Pembroke street intersection with a protected plaza Drop off and accessible parking incorporated within the parking lot New traffic control at Quadra & Pembroke intersection Connect to cycling route through park

Major Program Elements
Natatorium Highlights Multiple options for access to all bodies of water that cater to a range of abilities 50m Pool with movable floor and two bulkheads for maximum flexibility Enlarged warm water leisure pool with 25m lanes Two hot tubs with water at different temperatures
Evolution of Pool Tanks 2017 Conceptual Design Revised Design
Advantages of Revised Pool Configuration Movable floor and bulkheads maximize programming flexibility More warm water available for leisure, lessons and therapy 25m lanes in leisure pool reduce program overlap and increase availability of the main pool tank The two hot pools can be kept at different temperatures to cater to different users Change in size of the main pool tank allows it to be moved to other locations on the site and reduces tree loss

Change Rooms & Washrooms Highlights Universal (family) change room included Universal change room is gender neutral Change rooms exit adjacent to both major pool tanks Change rooms are 1.5X larger than existing Additional change area provided adjacent to fitness Multi stall washroom configuration with common sinks
Change Rooms & Washrooms Multi Stall Washrooms Universal Change Room
Fitness Highlights Environmentally separated from the natatorium Flexible space can be configured in multiple ways Positioned to animate street corner Views and natural light to enhance experience The new fitness area is nearly 1.75X larger than existing
Multi-Purpose Rooms Highlights Community focused multi-purpose rooms at level 1 Wet multi-purpose room adjacent to natatorium Possible retractable partition to increase programming flexiblity
Multi-Purpose Rooms Highlights Active multi-purpose rooms at level 2 Large gymnasium style multi-purpose room Possible retractable partition in smaller room for increased programming flexibility Child minding space included
Lobby and Community Hub Highlights Main entry moved closer to parking Lobby is connected to existing trees Views to natatorium enhanced Large on deck viewing area adjacent to lobby Lobby and community hub is 2X larger than existing
