Safety Safety General safety instructions It is imperative that the following safety instructions are observed when using WALDNER laboratory furniture: If you smell gas, immediately open all windows and do not operate any electrical control elements (e. g. light switches). In case of fire, inform the Fire Brigade without delay and fight the fire with a fire extinguisher until the Fire Brigade arrives. Always keep the access to emergency showers, eye showers and emergency exits clear. Always wear appropriate safety clothing in laboratories. In case of an accident with electrical power, immediately operate the emergency stop button. Only perform hazardous tasks on your own when another person can provide first-aid in an emergency. Only use items of equipment that have been tested and that are in correct working order. Have any defects rectified without delay and inform your supervisor. Only leave the workplace if continuous supervision of your work is not necessary or if another person takes over supervision. Only work outside normal working hours with suitable precautionary measures and if it is not possible to perform the work at another time. Store hazardous materials so that they do not create a hazard to health or the environment. In general observe the following directives, specification and regulations: Richtlinien für Laboratorien der Berufsgenossenschaften (Guidelines for Laboratories) (BGR 120) Health and safety regulations Allgemeine Vorschriften (Annex 1 of the Accident Prevention Regulations "General Rules") (BGV A1) Gesundheitsdienst (Health service) (BGV C8) Umgang mit krebserregenden Gefahrstoffen (Handling carcinogenic hazardous materials) (VBG 113) Gefahrstoffverordnung (Hazardous Materials Regulations) Arbeitsstättenverordnung (Workplaces Ordinance) Legal regulations on waste 2

Safety Warning instructions used in this operating instruction In this section warnings about hazards are provided in the form of warning instructions. The nature of the hazard and the hazard category are identified by a symbol and a signal word. It is imperative that the information on how to avoid the hazard is observed. The following hazard categories are used in this document as required. DANGER! identifies hazards to the health. WARNING! is used with all warning instructions that could result in minor injuries or damage if they are not observed. CAUTION! is used with all warning instructions that could result in damage if they are not observed. SIGNAL WORD Nature and source of the hazard Possible consequence of failure to observe Information on how to avoid the hazard Correct use The mobile fume cupboard AeroEm prevents gases, fumes, aerosols or dust escaping from the chamber. With the sash closed the operator is protected from splashes of hazardous substances or flying parts. Provided the operating conditions (DIN EN 12924, Part 1) are observed, primary explosion protection in the context of the Explosionsschutz-Richtlinien (EX-RL) (Explosion protection guidelines) is adequately addressed. The AeroEm is suitable for the mc6 school system in sciences classrooms and in laboratories. The following materials are not permitted in the AeroEm : Radioactive substances Microorganisms Genotype modified substances 3

Safety Work performed by WALDNER Installation and modification of WALDNER laboratory furniture is only allowed to be performed by WALDNER service personnel or authorised personnel. Maintenance on WALDNER laboratory furniture are only allowed to be performed by appropriately qualified personnel or WALDNER service personnel. Maintenance work must be performed regularly every 12 months. The spare parts required must be recorded in a log. Compliance with standards During the planning, manufacture and the installation of the WALDNER laboratory furniture product range, the applicable specifications such as EN standards, DIN, DVGW, GS marking, CE marking, VDE, BGV and VDI regulations and other official specifications and conditions in the Standards and technical rules section are taken into account. 4

Description Description Layout of the AeroEm Components of the AeroEm Trolley with 2 castors and 2 castors with brakes Experiment work surface with surrounding raised edge Viewing window made of safety glass and baffle Gas outlet (optional) Sash Cross screen Water outlet with sink and waste water pump unit (optional) Material lock for pipes (left and right) with roller blinds 5

Description Functional description The AeroEm is a mobile multi-functional fume cupboard with a chamber directly visible from all sides. The fume cupboards is mounted on castors so that it can be moved and will fit through doors with a height of more than 2 m. It can therefore be used where required. The chamber is opened using the vertical rising sash. The downward moving cross screen has two sliding sashes and provides physical protection for the body. The viewing window is protected via an additional, divided, glass baffle that can be opened for cleaning. Connections The AeroEm is connected, e.g., to the WALDNER service wing or suitable connections on the teacher's desk or in the laboratory using flexible pipes. The material lock for the pipes can be closed on both sides using roller blinds. The following connections are available: Extract air Operating water (optional) Waste water (optional) Gas (optional) Power Fume cupboard The flow in the AeroEm universal fume cupboard is directed from top to bottom. An air supply assistance fan, which can be switched on and off using the switch button on the function display, aids the flow of air. In this way heavy gases are also reliably extracted. 6

Description Function display FAZ The minimum extract air volume is monitored by a sensor. If the flow rate drops below the minimum, a visual indication is provided with a flashing lamp on the function display FAZ and an acoustic indication is provided with an alarm. The alarm can be deactivated by pressing a switch button. Function display FAZ Lamp with switch button for alarm Green indicator with switch button for monitoring function Lighting Plugs/sockets The chamber is illuminated. The lighting is designed so that it does not dazzle and can be switched on and off from the outside. In the chamber there are two earthed sockets with spring covers; these sockets can be switched on and off individually from the outside. 7

Description Water outlet Water can be used in the chamber. The water outlet can be operated from outside the fume cupboard using a valve. A sink collects the waste water. A silent, electric waste water pump unit under the experiment work surface disposes of the waste water through the waste water pipe. Waste water pump unit If there is a malfunctions in the power supply, the water outlet is stopped automatically. In this way it is ensured that the sink does not overflow. Gas outlet Gas can be drawn in the chamber. The gas tap can be operated from the outside using a valve. 8

Operation Operation Specific safety instructions It imperative that the following safety instructions are observed when using the AeroEm : Experiments in the fume cupboard are only allowed to be performed by trained personnel. Only perform experiments with the ventilation and extract air monitoring (green indicator) switched on. When performing an experiment, keep the sash closed. Remove unnecessary objects from the fume cupboard when performing an experiment. Only open cross screen when necessary. Keep cross screen closed when opening the sash. Do not store chemicals in the fume cupboard. Pay attention to the indicator lights on the function display and alarm. In case of alarm immediately close sash, inform staff and laboratory supervisor. Pay attention to the markings on the handles on laboratory service outlets (DIN EN 13792). Secure hoses so that they do not slide off the service outlets. Check service outlets and electrical equipment for visible defects. Always lock brakes when positioning the fume cupboard. Only connect gas pipe together with strain relief. Secure connections so that they cannot slide off. Only connect pipes using suitable connections. Do not leave experiment unattended. 9
