Extraction Procedures Step 1 Gather supplies and equipment. Product Checklist Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 Step 10 Step 11 Post wet floor signs. Vacuum thoroughly. Remove obstructions and furniture from the area to be cleaned. Fill 2-gallon pump-up sprayer with warm water. Mix traffic lane cleaner in a pump-up sprayer. Follow mixing directions. Remove spots. Apply the pre-spray solution using pump up sprayer to a 10 x 10 area. Hold the nozzle of the sprayer at least 12" above the carpet pile. Allow chemical to dwell for 5-10 minutes. Fill the extractor with hot water. DO NOT exceed 150 degrees. Mix extraction solution. Follow mixing directions. Plug in the machine. Operate the extractor by walking backwards and pulling while dispensing the hot water and picking it up with the vacuum head. Overlap each pass to ensure thorough cleaning. After cleaning carpet, place a small square of aluminum foil or 6 mil poly square under the furniture legs to prevent moisture from damaging the finish or rusting the metal glides. Place carpet blowers in clean areas to speed the drying process. Allow carpet to thoroughly dry before removing wet floor signs and opening to traffic. Vacuum cleaner Mini-Marathon 425 Windshear 3000 Carpet Dryer 2-gallon pump-up sprayer Wet floor signs White cotton cleaning cloths Personal protective equipment (rubber gloves, eye protection) Extraction chemical Traffic lane chemical Water-based all-purpose spotter Tar, grease and oil spot remover Defoamer Aluminum foil squares Egg timer Spotting brush Spotting kit (optional) Step 12 Rinse recovery tank with clean water. Step 13 Clean all equipment and tools. Return them to supply area. 13

Spotting Procedures Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Test the spotting products on a scrap piece of carpet first. If no carpet scrap is available, test in an inconspicuous area. Allow test area to completely dry; then check for any color change before proceeding. If there is a color change, do not continue. Pretest additional products until a safe spotting agent is found or call a professional cleaning technician. Remove any dry spills with the use of a spotting brush and bone spatula to scrape up the dry residue. (This process is very efficient for mud, mustard, and ketchup.) Then dry vacuum the area. Blot up wet spills immediately with a white absorbent cotton cloth or a layer of white paper towels. The general rule is that unless you know the origin of the stain and have determined that a wet spotter is required, you should always start with a nonflammable dry cleaning solvent (solvent based spotter). Work from the outer edge of the spot toward the center to avoid enlarging the spot. DO NOT pour any dry cleaning solvent - or any other liquid cleaner - directly onto the carpet as this causes penetration into the carpet back, which can produce buckling and deterioration of the backing system. Pour a small amount of solvent on the white cotton toweling and then gently apply to the spot. Blot the area with a dry white cotton cloth. Work the spot by alternately moistening and blotting. When there is no longer any transfer of the spot substance to the cloth, allow the area to dry thoroughly. If the spot remains after using the dry cleaning solvent, then work the spot with a water-based general purpose spotter, using the same moistening and blotting procedures. Follow the same steps as you did with the dry cleaning solvent. Portable spotting machine Vacuum Product Checklist Wet floor signs White cotton cleaning cloths Personal protective equipment (rubber gloves, eye protection) Water-based all-purpose spotter Tar, grease and oil spot remover Spotting brush Spotting kit Spotter chart Step 8 When the stain has been removed, completely rinse the area with tap water to remove spotting agents. Immediately rinse & vacuum with portable spotting machine. Blot with a cotton cloth until the moisture is absorbed. Contact a certified carpet technician if spot persists. 14

Cleaning Tips CLEANING TIPS Check the condition of the carpeting. If the carpet is loose, heavily soiled, stained, spotted or badly worn, point this out to the person in charge. Locate an inconspicuous spot on the area to be cleaned. Test carpet for colorfastness before proceeding. Pour the diluted cleaning solution on the spot, cover with a white towel and place a heavy object on top to absorb the cleaning solution. Wait 5 minutes for any reaction to take place. Remove weight. If there is no color transfer, it should be safe to clean. Remove the furniture from the area to be cleaned. Large pieces can be moved to opposite end of the room from where you start cleaning and replaced when it is completed. After cleaning carpet, place a small square of aluminum foil or 6 mil poly square under the furniture legs to prevent moisture from damaging the finish or rusting the metal glides. Clean the area with a vacuum first. Heavily soiled carpet or areas of concentrated foot traffic should be treated with recommended pre-spray chemicals, using a pump-up or electric sprayer. Do not allow any spotter or pre-spray to dry on the carpet. Identify the type of carpet fiber to be cleaned. Most commercial carpet fibers in use are nylon or acrylic based. Best results in cleaning will be obtained if hot water is used to clean these types of fibers. On the other hand, hot water could shrink wool carpet. Exercise caution when cleaning natural fibers. Use cool water test for colorfastness and apply the least amount of cleaning solution possible. Plan your cleaning route. Always try to have the cord to the right of the Marathon extractor so you are working away from the cord. Operate the extractor in parallel passes. Clean the perimeter last. Turn off spray switch in turns to conserve cleaning solution. To decrease dry time, go over the carpet without pressing carpet spray switch. To further decrease the drying time, use the Windshear 3000 Carpet Blower. When running the extractor, do not overfill the recovery tank. Do not allow the water level to rise above the standpipe intake filter inside the recovery tank. If the spray jets become clogged, remove the individual spray tips and soak them in a mild acid or anti-browning chemical to dissolve normal alkaline chemical buildup. When the extractor runs out of cleaning solution, noted by streaking or incomplete cleaning, turn off the machine and drain the recovery tank. Refill as needed and continue cleaning. 15

Tornado s Commitment to Environmental Sustainability Tornado Industries, Inc. is committed to creating a clean, safe and healthy workplace environment through the use of innovative cleaning technology developed to minimize the impact of cleaning on indoor and outdoor environments. At Tornado, we care deeply about our planet and realize the cleaning industry is in a position to make positive and profound contributions to the environment, ensuring that our children and our children s children inherit a sustainable and healthy planet. That s why we carefully design our machines to deliver not only the latest innovation, but also green features to enhance indoor air quality (IAQ), use less water and chemicals, create less noise, and produce less moisture. Tornado embraces the following ecological and corporate values through green and healthy practices: 1. Water conservation: Our products, such as our carpet extractors, deliver adjustable solution control for safe, healthy and fast-drying floors that eliminate mold and mildew. Our cylindrical brush floor machines use 30% less water. The design of cylindrical brush machines minimizes splashing and over spray by containing water within the machine housing. Cylindrical brush machines have six times the contact pressure of a conventional rotary brush machine, which not only helps reduce water usage, but also improves worker productivity and reduces labor costs. 2. Less chemicals: Due to recent green legislation and the development of new cleaning standards, all of our cylindrical brush machines and carpet extractors are designed to use less chemicals as well as provide increased rotations per minute (RPMs). The adjustable head pressure helps to minimize the need for powerful and potentially harmful chemicals. Our carpet extractors have enhanced vacuum systems that limit the possibility of mold and mildew from developing and speed carpet-drying time. The result? Areas cleaned are ready for use faster and are safer for building occupants. 3. IAQ Enhancement: Vacuum cleaners including uprights, backpacks and canisters can release dust and debris into the air if they are not designed with advanced infiltration systems. That s why Tornado has developed a comprehensive product family of high-filtration vacuums with true HEPA filtration to minimize dust and exhaust from escaping the vacuum. All of our carpet care cleaning equipment has been Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI) and Tandus Industries tested and approved for green cleaning. What s more, many of our UHS Ultra High Speed machines have passive vacuum systems to trap contaminants before they become airborne. 4. Reusable and Recyclable: Our machines are designed with durable polypropylene tanks, housings and other components that are recyclable after the machine is no longer in use. All Tornado machines proudly display the recyclable logo. Our long lasting, deep cycle, rechargeable batteries increase run time and minimize down time and time spent on battery maintenance. Our cylindrical brush technology creates less environmental waste by utilizing one cylindrical pad to every 100 rotary brush pads, increases the productivity of your maintenance staff with less time spent on pad maintenance and replacement. 5. U.S. Green Building Council Member: We support standards and the criteria established by certification bodies such as the U.S. Green Building Council, The Carpet and Rug Institute s (CRI) Green Label Certification program, the Green Seal GS-37 standards, and more. 18
