For information about operation methods and safety-related notes for the FJ-500/400, refer to the User s Manual packed with the machine. Also, the explanations in this document use illustrations of the FJ-500. Some areas of the configuration of the FJ-400 differ from the illustrations. 1

1 How to Unpack the FJ-500/400 Unpacking, installation, and moving must be carried out by four or more persons. Otherwise the machine or the stand may fall, resulting in injury. (The total weight of the package is 166 kg (365.9 lb.) for the FJ-500 and 154 kg (339.5 lb.) for the FJ-400.) 2 Checking the Accessories 2-1 Check the Accessories Box The accessories box contains the following items. 3 Assembling the Stand and the Machine Unpacking, installation, and moving must be carried out by four or more persons. Otherwise the machine or the stand may fall, resulting in injury. (The total weight of the package is 166 kg (365.9 lb.) for the FJ-500 and 154 kg (339.5 lb.) for the FJ-400.) Use care to avoid pinching the fingers when placing the unit on the stand. Doing so may result in injury. Use the joining screws to secure the unit to the stand. Failure to do so may result in falling of the unit, leading to injury. NOTICE Left-hand side of the back of the unit When lifting the machine, do not grasp the areas shown in the figure. Doing so may damage the equipment. Right-hand side of the back of the unit First assemble the stand, then mount the machine on top of the stand. The external dimensions of the assembled machine and stand are as follows. FJ-500: 2246 mm [W] x 740 mm [D] x 1241 mm [H] (88-7/16 in. [W] x 29-3/16 in. [D] x 48-7/8 in. [H]) FJ-400: 1992 mm [W] x 740 mm [D] x 1241 mm [H] (78-7/16 in. [W] x 29-3/16 in. [D] x 48-7/8 in. [H]) 1 Invert the stand legs as shown in the figure. While supporting the stand legs with your hand, attach the left- and righthand casters. Tighten the bolts securely. Loose bolts may cause the stand to wobble. 4 pcs. Hexagonal wrench Long Bolts (Large) Short Pipe 4 pcs. 6

2 Set the stand upright so that the casters are at the bottom, and place the machine on the stand. The front and rear of the stand are as shown in the figure. * Take care to prevent from catching on the bottom plug at the bottom surface on the right side of the machine. Front * Line up the frame at the back of the machine with the fixtures on the stand. 3 Use the included large bolts to secure the machine to the stand. 5 Place the media guide on the stays and secure it in place using the included small bolts. Orientation of the media guide Rear Front Media guide Media guide Bolts (Small) Long Short * If the short side is oriented toward the back of the machine, roll material may fall. 6 Pass the media flanges onto the retainers and secure in place with the flange retaining pins. Media cover 8 Remove the bottom plug from the bottom surface on the right side of the machine, then screw in the drain bottle in the direction indicated by the arrow. When threading the bottle onto the machine, turn the bottle without applying excessive force. Leave the drain bottle attached at all times, removing it only when moving the machine or disposing of collected ink. 4 Setting Up Unpacking, installation, and moving must be carried out by four or more persons. Otherwise the machine or the stand may fall, resulting in injury. (The total weight of the package is 166 kg (365.9 lb.) for the FJ-500 and 154 kg (339.5 lb.) for the FJ-400.) Install in a level and stable location. Otherwise the unit may tip over and cause injury. NOTICE Never install the unit in any of the following situations, as it could result in breakdown or faulty operation: Places where the installation surface is unstable or not level. Places with excessive electrical noise. Places with excessive humidity or dust. Places with poor ventilation, because the FJ-500/400 generates considerable heat during operation. Places with excessive vibration. Places exposed to strong illumination or direct sunlight. Never step or stand on the stand legs or the media cover. Doing so may damage them. Do not place objects on the unit, as doing so may result in breakdown. When using the unit while mounted on a stand, be sure to ensure a sufficient amount of installation space for the unit. 5 Removing the Protective Material The protective material shown below is attached to the FJ-500/400 when it is shipped from the factory. When you have finished installing the machine, remove all protective material. Front 1) Peel off the tape. 2) Pull straight back toward you to extract. 3) Remove the retainer. Rear 4) Remove. 5) Attach the retainer you removed in step 3. When you have finished unpacking, assembling, and installing the machine, connect the cables. For information about how to make the connections, see Making the Connections in the User s Manual packed with the machine. 10
