1. Guard Zone Alarm on Model DRS4W The DRS4W Radar and Simulator apps for ios devices will be updated to have the guard zone alarm function. Your ipad or iphone will further aid your navigational awareness, by giving you an alert when a target enters or leaves a preset zone. Operating Guard Zone Alarm 2-1 Setting Guard Zone Alarm The guard zone alarm can be set with an easy, intuitive operation flow. Accessing Guard Zone Alarm Option From the setting menu, you can access two (2) kinds of guard zone alarm options. [In] When a targets enters the guard zone area, an alarm will be generated. [Out] When a target leaves the guard zone area, an alarm will be generated. 2
Adjusting and Activating Guard Zone (1) Tap [Resize]. A tentative guard zone represented by a dotted line will appear. At this stage, the guard zone is not yet activated. (2) Adjust the size and area of the guard zone by dragging. (3) Select the guard zone mode [In] or [Out]. In this example, [In] is selected. (4) Tap [Active]. The guard zone setting will be activated. Guard zone set on the screen 2-2 Hearing, Seeing, and Feeling The Guard Zone Alarm Once the guard zone setting is activated, your ipad or iphone will give you an alart when a target enters into or leaves the guard zone area. Below are some sample screens to show how the guard zone alarm will help your navigation. 3
Alarm by Message, Sound, and Vibration Notification In this example, the guard zone mode is set to [In]. When a target enters the guard zone area, the target alarm is generated visually on the device with an alert sound. An iphone can vibrate to notify the alarm. The sound and vibration setting is available in Menu. Both settings are ON by default. Notes Guard Zone Alarm NOT Available When Case 1 The guard zone alarm does NOT work while the Radar app is closed. When the Radar app with the guard zone alarm activated is closed, you will see a notice on the Home page of ios devices as shown at top right. Case 2 When the range scale is changed from long to short, the activated guard zone area may be located out of the range scale. The guard zone alarm will then be unavailable and will display a notice shown on the screen at bottom right. Tips ipad and iphone Always ON While the app is running on an ipad or iphone, the screen is always on because the Auto-Lock setting is temporarily deactivated on the device. (With the previous version, the device screen turned off after the preset Auto-Lock period passes.) Make sure to fully charge the device. 4
3. Other Updates Lock Screen on iphone There are some cases where an iphone is kept in a pocket and the screen is touched, which could cause the Radar images to be adjusted unintentionally. The updated app can lock the iphone screen. When you utilize the iphone as a viewer, this function is useful. To lock the screen (Right) Tap the iphone screen, then the lock icon. While the screen is locked (Left) The closed lock is shown. Tap the lock icon to unlock for operation. Range & Bearing Box on iphone A range & bearing box, which has been available on ipad is now available on iphone as well. Long tap on the screen to show the [+] cursor with the range & bearing box. Caution Indication at Startup The apps will always show the caution message, especially regarding the guard zone alarm, at the time of launching.
