Littlehill Built originally in 1811 and then extended in the late 1920s/early 1930s, Littlehill was designed by the architect Scott Naylor, after the celebrated Arts & Crafts architect Charles Voysey and is a wonderful example of a country house of the period. The main house, guest cottage and principal outbuildings all have colour-washed and rendered walls under Cornish slate roofs. The house has a wonderful feeling of light and space throughout, with broad, south west facing windows looking out across the grounds to the wonderful views beyond. The house has a predominantly open plan design on the ground floor and there is widespread use of oak and light coloured timber for parquet floors, window frames and doors. The ground floor comprises a broad reception hall with the drawing room at one end and the dining room at the other, which is open plan to the adjacent kitchen. The sitting and dining rooms both have open fireplaces and bay windows and there are French windows in the sitting room and hall opening out to the paved terrace, which extends along the west facing side of the house. The kitchen is fitted with painted timber units and a 4 oven electric AGA (black), with a large storage cupboard and walk-in larder. Off the kitchen are the laundry room and a small rear lobby leading out into the garden. The attractive, original timber staircase rises to the part-galleried landing, off which are the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, three further bedrooms and the family bathroom.
Guest Cottage, Garden & Grounds The garden provides a magical setting for the house, with the lawn sweeping down from the terrace through a stand of fine lime trees to the herb garden. Beyond is a mature beech hedge screening the former grass tennis court (now used as a croquet lawn), a mixed orchard and some former brick-built agricultural buildings, which could have some development potential. To one side of Littlehill are the self-contained one bedroom guest cottage (entirely private from the main house) and the swimming pool with adjacent orangery. On the other side behind tall, mature hedging are the cut flower garden, vegetable garden with further fruit trees and cages for soft fruit and the greenhouse. Adjacent to the vegetable garden is the gravelled parking area and double tandem garage, potting shed, apple store, two log stores, workshop and a first floor studio and office. Beyond the garden are four adjoining paddocks totalling about 15 acres. In all about 18.44 acres (7.46 hectares).
