This guide explains how to determine the correct ordering dimensions when ordering RH custom drapery and/or custom hardware. If you have any questions, please call our Custom Window Team at These instructions will help you determine the area you want the drapery to cover when drapes are closed. All of our custom drapery styles come with fullness built in, so the ordering width you specify will be equivalent to the width you want to cover. There is no need to add width to create a full look. Note that our custom Ripple-Fold drapery has unique measuring instructions; please see our separate guide, Measuring for Custom Ripple-Fold Drapery and Track Hardware.

If you are ordering custom drapery for windows or doors where no hardware is installed, determine the height at which you will place a drapery rod (step 1) and the length of the drapery you will order (steps 2 and 3) based on the look you want to achieve. The length of the drapery rod and widths of drapery panels (steps 4 6) are determined based on both function and aesthetics. STEP 1: DETERMINE DRAPERY ROD PLACEMENT HEIGHT Determine the drapery rod s position in relation to the window. Drapery rods are typically installed at least 4" above the window frame so that the frame is concealed when the curtains are closed. Once you have chosen where to hang the rod, mark this rod height in pencil on the wall at both ends of the window frame and at one or more points along the window, making sure all the points are level. Note: Although you have selected the rod height, do not install the rod until after you have received your drapery and drapery rings (if using) so that you can confirm its placement with the drapery hanging on the rod. STEP 2: DETERMINE WHERE DRAPERY WILL FALL Once you have chosen the rod height, the drapery length depends on the look you want to achieve, including where the drapery will fall and whether your top treatment will include drapery rings. Some typical lengths for drapery include sill length (to just above the windowsill), apron length (4" 6" below the sill) and floor length. Floor-length drapery varies from floating just above the floor to pronounced puddling on the floor, depending on the desired effect. For a tailored look, and for drapes that will open and close frequently, drapery should land ¼" ¾" above the floor. For a more dramatic effect, adding 2" to 10" of additional fabric will allow drapery to puddle on the floor in luxurious folds. Puddling is not recommended for drapery that will be opened and closed regularly, as the bottoms will quickly get dirty. For Sill Length or Floor Length: Measure from the marked rod height to the windowsill or floor. This is your rod-to-bottom measurement. Careful re-measuring and installation of the rod once you have all window treatment components in hand are necessary to ensure that the drapery just clears the floor or sill. MEASURING TIPS We offer free professional design and measure services. Professional Installation services are available for all custom orders. Orders over $5000 qualify for complimentary professional installation.* Please reach out to the Custom Window Team at 888.669.2809 or by email at customwindows@rh.com Custom drapery is available in any size up to 260" wide in 1" increments and up to 180" long in ¼" increments. Use a steel tape measure, measuring to the nearest 1" in width and the nearest 1/4" in length. Measure each window and doorway individually (note: windows and doors that appear to be the same size often are not). Instructions are provided with all of our window hardware for installation on most surfaces. If you have any questions at any point in the ordering process, please call our Custom Window Team at *Excludes Canada and select areas in the US STEP 3: FACTOR IN RINGS AND TOP TREATMENT The top treatment of your drapery and whether you will use drapery rings affect the length of drapery you will order. For assistance, please call our Custom Window Team at For Drapery That Will Be Hung With Rings: The use of drapery rings is required for our pleated drapery styles and recommended for rod pocket drapery that will open and close frequently. Drapery rings add length, so you ll need to deduct the drop associated with the specific drapery rings you will be using from the total drapery length you order. Subtract the ring drop from your rod-to-bottom measurement to obtain your total custom drapery length. For Apron Length: Measure from the marked rod height to the windowsill and add 4" 6". This is your rod-to-bottom measurement. For Puddle Effect: Measure from the marked rod height to the floor and add 2" 10" according to the desired degree of puddling. This is your rod-to-bottom measurement. CUSTOM WINDOW TEAM 888.669.2809 CUSTOMWINDOWS@RH.COM Measuring for Custom Drapery and Window Hardware Guide 12.17.2018 2

Add ½" to your rod-to-bottom measurement to obtain your total custom drapery length. For Grommet Drapery Panels: The top of your grommet drapery panels will be approximately 1" higher than the top of the grommet opening. Add 1" to your rod-to-bottom measurement to obtain your total custom drapery length. CUSTOM WINDOW TEAM 888.669.2809 CUSTOMWINDOWS@RH.COM Measuring for Custom Drapery and Window Hardware Guide 12.17.2018 3

STEP 4: DETERMINE DRAPERY ROD LENGTH The rod length you specify when ordering does not include the width of the finials or integrated end brackets; the rod length will generally be equivalent to the drapery span. Be sure to allow ample wall space to accommodate the finials you choose. Extend hardware out from the edges of your window as much as 6" 12" on each side when possible, to allow maximum natural light when the drapery is open. For Drapery Rods with End Caps or Finials: Measure the window width and add the desired clearance (6" 12" per side, 12" 24" total) to determine the total span of your drapery. This measurement is your custom drapery rod length. For Drapery Rods with Integrated End Brackets: Our Chaillot, Marais and Leveque drapery rods fit into end brackets for a seamless look. Because the brackets extend beyond the rod, you will need to deduct that extension from the total drapery span to calculate the length of the custom drapery rod itself. The total installed width of your hardware will equal the custom drapery rod length plus the end bracket extensions. STEP 5: DETERMINE CUSTOM DRAPERY ORDERING WIDTH Your custom drapery total ordering width is equal to the custom drapery rod length. There is no need to add width, because fullness is built into each of our custom drapery panels: Rod Pocket and Grommet style custom drapery panels are built with 1.8 times the measured ordering width for fullness. For example, to cover a 50" span, we use 90" of fabric width so that the drapery will provide generous coverage when closed. French Pleat and Tailored Pleat style custom drapery panels are built with 2.5 times the measured ordering width for fullness. For example, to cover a 50" span, we use 125" of fabric width so that the drapery will provide generous coverage when closed. STEP 6: CHOOSE THE NUMBER OF DRAPERY PANELS You may choose a pair of equal panels, or split the total ordering width into as many panels as you like of whatever widths you specify. The number and placement of center brackets can affect the number of drapery panels to order. 12"-60"L rod requires no center bracket 61"-120"L rod includes 1 center bracket 121"-180"L rod includes 2 center brackets If you want drapery to pass over support brackets so that it can traverse the entire span of the rod, please use our Estate window hardware collection with our C-loop rings and C-loop ring center brackets. Or opt for Ripple- Fold style drapery, which uses custom track hardware and brackets that do not interrupt the span of the track. (Please see our separate guide, Measuring for Custom Ripple-Fold Drapery and Track Hardware.) Integrated End Bracket Measure the window width and add the desired clearance (6" 12" per side, 12" 24" total) to determine the total span of your drapery. Subtract the extension of both end brackets (see Table 2 below). This measurement is your custom drapery rod length. INTEGRATED END BRACKET EXTENSION (Outer Edge of Backplate to Point of Connection with Rod) CHAILLOT Small Bracket: 23/8" Large Bracket: 31/4" LEVEQUE Small Bracket: 31/4" Large Bracket: 31/2" MARAIS Small Bracket: 23/8" Large Bracket: 21/2" If ordering two equal panels, enter the total ordering width as your custom drapery width measurement and click Pair under Select Panels. If dividing the total coverage into three or more panels, click Single under Select Panels, and enter desired ordering widths for a left panel, a right panel, and one or more center panels. The sum of the individual panel widths must equal the total coverage width. CUSTOM WINDOW TEAM 888.669.2809 CUSTOMWINDOWS@RH.COM Measuring for Custom Drapery and Window Hardware Guide 12.17.2018 4

DRAPERY AND HARDWARE MEASUREMENT WORKSHEET Window Label: (e.g., NW Bedroom Window 1) 1. Mark rod placement height in relation to window at three points across window. Use level to make sure points are at the same height. 2. Determine where drapery will fall. Measure from marked rod height to point where drapery will fall. Enter rod-to-bottom measurement here: 3. If using drapery rings, subtract the ring drop associated with your selected ring style (see Table 1) from the rod-to-bottom measurement to obtain your total custom drapery length. Enter it here: If using rod pocket drapery without rings, add ½" to the rod-to-bottom measurement to account for 1/4 "-1/2 " of drapery rod takeup to derive your total custom drapery length. Enter it here: If using grommet drapery, add 1" to the rod-to-bottom measurement to obtain your total custom drapery length. Enter it here: 4. Measure the window width and add the desired clearance (12" 24") to determine the total span of your drapery. Enter it here: For drapery rods with end caps or finials, the above measurement is your custom drapery rod length. For drapery rods with integrated end brackets, the brackets extend beyond the rod itself; therefore, you ll need to deduct that extension from the total drapery span. To do that, multiply the bracket s extension (see table on page 4) of your selected bracket by 2. Enter that number here: Subtract this number from your total drapery span measurement (above) to obtain your custom drapery rod length. Enter it here: 5. Your custom drapery ordering width is equal to the custom drapery rod length measurement from step 4. You do not need to add additional drapery width to your order to ensure adequate fullness.
