PLASTMO PLASTIC RAIN GUTTERS Plas Plastic Rain Gutters have proven their strength for more than half a century. Plastic is not affected by airborne pollution and salty air in coastal areas. They are strong and stable and will last for many years to come. CHOSE BETWEEN SEVERAL COLORS White Gray Graphite Brown Black 4

THE ENVIRONMENT Plas Plastic Rain Gutters do not contain any plasticizers or heavy metals that are harmful to the environment. A PIECE OF GOOD ADVICE Place one side of your ladder against a gutter bracket when you install or clean a rain gutter for fallen leaves. This prevents damage to the plastic rain gutter that over the years might have become less flexible. FACTS MATERIAL Plastic rain gutters are manufactured from reusable unleaded hard polyvinyl chloride that does not contain any form of plasticizers. Plastic does not corrode or rust, and will not combine with other materials. Plastic can therefore be used for all types of roofing. The special Plas glue combines with the plastic rain gutter so that the glued join becomes extra strong and stable. WEATHER AND CLIMATE Plastic can withstand extremely low temperatures and severe stress from ice and snow without the risk of freeze cracks. Plastic is also not affected by airborne pollution or salty air. You can therefore use plastic, regardless of where you live. RANGE Rain Gutters are available in sizes 10, 11 and 12. Downspouts are available in diameters of 7, 90 and 110 mm. See our complete range listed in the table in the back of this booklet. In addition you can order virtually any design you may desire as special plastic fittings parts. SUPPLY AND STORAGE Rain gutters and pipes are usually delivered with a strapex-tape, which you must remove as soon as possible. Never store packaged rain gutters and pipes in direct sunlight. WARRANTY We provide a 2-year guarantee on plastic rain gutters. You are covered against manufacturing and material defects that cause leakage. The warranty does not cover any form of consequential damage such as operating damage.

SYSTEM FIND THE RIGHT SYSTEM System sizes are adapted to different types of houses. A size 10 rain gutter is mounted on small buildings such as summer houses and roofing over terraces and conservatories. A size 11 is used for traditional houses and size 12 is mounted on large buildings, such as tenements as well as warehouses and industrial premises. In order to ensure that you have sufficient drainage capacity, you should use the following calculations as your starting point. Check the drainage capacity In the table you can gauge the system s drainage capacity in relation to the location of the downspout. If the drainage area is greater than the figures in the table, you can choose to install an additional downspout, since that increases drainage capacity. Make sure you plan drainage for all downspouts. H B Measurement Table for Rain Gutters Size Width Height 10 102 64 11 120 72 12 144 87 Rain Gutters Pipes Location A Drainage Area Rain Gutters Downspouts Drainage area (m 2 ) Drainage area (m 2 ) B 10 11 12 Ø7 Ø90 Ø110 Location A 128 200 29 180 289 30 Location B 8 128 19 10 23 408 Location C 64 9 148 126 200 36 Location B Location C A Planning of your system First calculate the roof area (drainage area: A X B), and determine the location of the downspout. The above is calculated on the basis of expected rainfall intensity of 0,0146 l/s/m 2. The rain gutter sizes in the above examples can be combined with the following variable dimensions of the downspouts: Pipe sizes Rain gutter size Plastic grey, white, graphite, brown, black Ø7 Ø90 Ø110 10 11 12 Is there a need for an expansion spout/expansion piece? Plastic will move slightly when the temperature varies. One should therefore in the following cases use an expansion spout and/or an expansion piece: Plastic rain gutters more than 18 meters in length Plastic rain gutters all the way around the house Expansion Spout If the rain gutter is more than 18 m, expansion spouts should always be installed at all downflows. If there is a rain gutter all the way around the building, expansion spouts are always installed at all downflows. Expansion piece without flow Expansion piece with flow If the distance between downflows is more than 18 m, always install an expansion piece between the downflows. If the distance between downflows is more than 8 m between two miter joints, always install an expansion piece between the corners. 9

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR RAIN GUTTERS Master tips Calculation of the roof area When the roof area/drainage area is calculated, it is usually simple to measure the length of the house (A). It can be a little more difficult to measure the distance from the eaves to the ridge (B), but it can be done in the following way: Measure the length of the visible part of one of the lower roofing tiles or plates. Then count how many roofing tiles/plates there are from the eaves to the ridge. Multiply this number with the length of the roofing tiles/ roofing plates so that you have the B-measurement that you will use to calculate the drainage area without having to go up on the roof. Rain gutters with drop If you want the rain gutter to drop, you can arrange the metal gutter brackets next to each other and draw the drop with a marker. If there more than one downflow, the drop is subdivided up so that the drop is equal to both downflows. It is a good idea to number the metal gutter brackets in a place where it is not visible later. Then you can be sure you will mount them correctly the first time. Shortening of rain gutters and pipes Plastic gutters are shortened with a hacksaw or a fine-toothed saw. If you have the option, use the shortened ends at the joins so that right angle ends are used at the end plates. When gutters are sawed through, a loose connector piece can be attached as a cutting template. Storage of rain gutter glue If the glue is very cold, it can be difficult to press out of the tube/cartridge, so store it in a warm place before use. If the glue is not fully used up, you can put a screw into the opening so that it does not dry out Cleaning glue surfaces Wipe the glue surfaces with a dry cloth. Installation of end plates The rain gutter must be able to give a little when it is clicked in to the metal gutter brackets. The end plates stabilize the rain gutter. That is why the rain gutter is more flexible without end plates. So it is usually easier to install the end plates after you have inserted the rain gutter in the metal gutter brackets. Installation of spouts It is a good idea to install the spout when you have cut the hole and before you insert the rain gutter in the metal gutter brackets especially if space is tight. Holders for plastic pipes in brick walls Holders for plastic pipes may not be installed in the mortar joints between bricks. The best and most durable result will be obtained if they are installed in the brick itself to ensure that they always provide proper support and keep the downspout in place. Follow the installation instructions on the pipe holder package so it is possible for the pipe to expand. Paint If you have exterior plastic rain gutters, and you want them to clash as little as possible with their surroundings, the fascia board may be painted in the same colour as the rain gutter itself. The colour codes are specified below that provide a result that is as close as possible to the colour of the rain gutters, which your local supplier must use when mixing the paint. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR PVC RAIN GUTTERS YOU NEED A carpenter s rule Plas screws for mounting brackets or metal gutter brackets String A hacksaw or a fine-toothed saw A marker A metal gutter bracket bender (only when metal gutter brackets are used) A screwdriver or screwing machine Click system with glued joining: A dry cloth when mounting plastic gutters Plas Rain Gutter Glue for plastic REMEMBER: Plastic Rain Gutters: Before gluing, all items must be wiped with a dry cloth. New metal rain gutter brackets Rain gutters can be installed horizontally or with a slight drop towards the downspouts (approximately 2mm per linear meter). A drop can be created by drawing the bend marks slightly slanted (see picture). Make a bend mark min. 10 mm from the back hooks. Number the metal rain gutter brackets. New mounting brackets Mounting brackets in plastic or steel Bend the metal rain gutter brackets with a Plas Metal Rain Gutter Bracket Bender. The metal rain gutter brackets are bent at an angle so that the leading edge of the gutter, after installation on the roof is approximately 2 mm lower than the trailing edge. Plastic mounting brackets with a triangular wedge The two outermost metal rain gutter brackets are mounted approximately 10 mm from the barge board or approximately 20 mm from the corner. Stretch-mount a string on the leading edge of the metal rain gutter brackets. Distribute the remaining metal rain gutter brackets with a max. spacing of 600 mm. Take the location of the downspout into account. Mount the metal rain gutter brackets in accordance with the string and attach them with Plas Screws or the largest available galvanised nails (/40). The two outermost mounting brackets are mounted approximately 10 mm from the barge board or approximately 20 mm from the corner. Install horizontally or with drop (approximately 2 mm/m) towards the downspouts. Stretch-mount a string on the leading edge of the mounting brackets. Distribute the remaining mounting brackets with a max. spacing of 600 mm. Fasten with Plas Screws. The two outermost triangular wedges are mounted approximately 10 mm from the barge board or approximately 20 mm from the corner. Install horizontally or with drop (approximately 2 mm/m) towards the downspouts. Stretch-mount a string at the bottom of the wedges. Distribute the remaining wedges with a max. spacing of 600 mm. Then install the mounting brackets.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR PVC RAIN GUTTERS Installation of the rain gutter End plate When installing the rain gutter there should 1 be approximately 2 mm between the end plate and the barge board. However, only a mm gap when mounting on hot days as the rain gutter expands at high temperatures. 2 Apply Plas Rain Gutter Glue to the end plate in an approximately mm wide line. When the rain gutter has been mounted, 3 attach the end plate onto the trailing edge of the rain gutter and rotate upwards so that it meshes with the leading edge of the rain gutter. Spout Place the spout loosely on the rain gutter 4 where the downspout must be. Draw the diameter of the hole for the spout with a marker. Saw with a fine-toothed saw or hacksaw, 2 diagonal cuts against each other. Apply 4 lines of glue in mm width. 6 Apply the two outer lines approximately 1 mm from the edge. Between these, apply two lines of glue on either side of the hole. Install the spout immediately. Connecting piece Attach the spout immediately to the trailing 7 edge of the rain gutter and rotate so that it meshes with the ridge of the rain gutter. Plastic gutters move due to temperature 8 influences. The distance between the connecting piece and the metal rain gutter bracket must be min. 90 mm. When two gutters are to be joined, they must 9 be fitted tightly together. Apply 4 lines of glue in mm width to the connecting piece. Apply the two outer lines approximately 1 mm from the edges. Install immediately. Miter joints Attach the connecting pieces to the trailing edge 10 of the rain gutter. Make sure that the connecting piece is securely attached to the trailing edge of both rain gutters. Then rotate the connecting piece upwards so that it meshes with the ridge of the rain gutter. 11 Apply 2 lines of glue in a width of mm. to one half of the miter joint Install immediately. Attach the miter joint onto the trailing edge 12 of the rain gutter and turn it upwards so that it meshes with the ridge of the rain gutter. Then apply glue to the second half of the miter joint. Then install the second rain gutter in the miter joint.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR PVC RAIN GUTTERS Expansion spout Locking strip Expansion piece Install a metal rain gutter bracket on either 13 side of the expansion spout. Insert the rain gutters into the expansion spout up to the temperature label corresponding to the actual temperature at the time of installation. In case of a vertical fascia board, attach the spout directly onto the fascia without metal rain gutter brackets. A locking strip is fitted between two expansion spouts. Mounting instructions are in- 14 cluded. Attach the locking strip with glue. See application in the table. 1 1A Mounting instructions are included. 1: Without flow 1A: With flow Downspouts Pipe clamps/hinge pins Downspout connector sleeve min. 20 mm Install the first elbow on the spout and 16 measure the length of the pipe to the next elbow (min. 60 mm). In case of an overhang (exceeding 600 mm) glue the upper elbow onto the spout. Install the elbows so that there is a downstream flow. Install the uppermost pipe clamp just below 17 the elbow on the downspout. The uppermost ferrule is mounted so that it clamps around the pipe. The lowermost ferrule is mounted so that it does not clamp around the pipe - this allows the pipe to expand. To be fitted with a spacing of approximately 2 m. When two lengths of pipe must be connected, a downspout connector sleeve is used. 18 Maintain min. 20 mm of air at the bottom of the downspout sleeve. Install a pipe clamp/hinge pin close beneath the downspout connector sleeve. Discharge spout Branch pipe Downlead with well collar Where there is no sewage, a discharge 19 spout is used instead. Glue onto the downspout. When two downpipes must be connected 20 and continued in a downspout, a branch pipe is used. The downspout is inserted100 mm into the 21 downlead, which is then installed in the well collar. Strong joins with Plas rain gutter glue To join Plas Plastic Rain Gutters, a special rain gutter glue is used that makes the glued join strong and stable. Curing time depends on the temperature and can vary from 2 to 24 hours. The rain gutter glue can be used in humid weather and in sightly frosty weather down to - C. In this case a slightly longer curing time must be factored in. A tube with 10 ml rain gutter glue is sufficient for joining approximately 36 meters of rain gutter system.
