Foltys of the Research Institute for Animal Production in Slovakia 1 reports that the greater the number of leaks present in a milking plant, the higher the Somatic Cell Count (SCC). He found that cows milked on a leaking system have a 19% higher SCC than on a plant without leaks. However, with a systematic maintenance routine every tube, gasket and o-ring will be inspected. Speed up milking by 15% It takes up to 15% longer to milk your cows if the vacuum at the teat end is inaccurate. This has been reported by the Dairy Products Research Centre of Ireland. The centre also found that faulty teat-end vacuum can lead to cow discomfort.
