InService Protect your investment
InService brings together knowledge and innovation to form a superior service solution. Our goal is to reduce the environmental footprint of farms, while improving food production and the well being of the people and animals involved. But don t only take our word for it. In this brochure, we have brought together the results of independent research from across the dairy industry. No hype just the plain facts. Reduce somatic cell counts with preventive maintenance V. Foltys of the Research Institute for Animal Production in Slovakia 1 reports that the greater the number of leaks present in a milking plant, the higher the Somatic Cell Count (SCC). He found that cows milked on a leaking system have a 19% higher SCC than on a plant without leaks. However, with a systematic maintenance routine every tube, gasket and o-ring will be inspected. With, a technician trained and certified by DeLaval will go through all the components in your milking system, adjusting or replacing parts at planned intervals. Increase yield by decreasing SCC There is a strong link between SCC and profitability: the lower the SCC, the higher the milk yield and the higher the premium your milk earns. In France, J.M. Fabre writes that a rise in SCC from 150,000 to 600,000 results in a decrease in yield of 4 percent 2. By combining the findings of Foltys and Fabre, the sums show that farmers who control SCC with preventive maintenance can produce up to 240 lbs more milk, per cow, per year. Speed up milking by 15% It takes up to 15% longer to milk your cows if the vacuum at the teat end is inaccurate. This has been reported by the Dairy Products Research Centre of Ireland. The centre also found that faulty teat-end vacuum can lead to cow discomfort. With, the vacuum level is checked and corrected at least once a year, ensuring high throughput, while safeguarding cow comfort.
the plain facts Trained and certified, DeLaval technicians help with both technical matters and everyday production issues. Unique service tools provide measurements and analyses that help increase the profitability of your farm. Minimizing downtime: DeLaval technicians have direct access to more than 30,000 different parts. Disrupted milking lost milk yield Cows are sensitive to interruption in their routines. Unplanned downtime during milking results in 2.5 lbs lower yield per cow during the next 4 days. This was reported by Karin Östensson of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences 3. If you have 100 cows, that s a loss of almost 1,056 lbs of milk within just 4 days. But there s a simple way to reduce equipment downtime. A study of over 350 farms shows that milk producers with needed 3 times fewer emergency call-outs. Decrease culling rates Mastitis is the most common reason for culling. A report from the American NAHMS reported that 26.9% of all culled cows in the USA were culled due to mastitis 4. A further study shows that fluctuations in vacuum can lead to severe mastitis. R. F. Horne of the Allerton Veterinary Laboratory in South Africa reports that vacuum fluctuations can cause milk in the claw to surge from quarter to quarter, increasing the risk of cross contamination 5. DeLaval offers a wide range of maintenance and testing procedures to ensure correct vacuum in the milking system according to international standards. InService optimizes performance A milking machine working at its optimum makes milking faster and more efficient. Shorter milking times help give you more milk per lactation and more time for the cows to eat and rest. To produce 1 quart of milk, 500 quarts of blood need to pass through the cow's udder. When she lays down, there is a 30% increase of blood flow through the udder. Cows need to lay down 12-14 hours per day with an actual sleep time of around 30 minutes. More efficient and shorter milking times mean savings through lowered electricity and wage costs. Plain common sense For professional food producers, it s just plain common sense regular, planned maintenance is an investment that saves money. 1) The effect of milking device disturbance on SCC in milk dairy cows V. Foltys et al, Research Institute for Animal Production, Slovakia. 2) Treatment of subclinical mastitis in lactating cows Evaluation of a new protocol: simultaneous treatment - J.M. Fabre et al, Phylum, France. 3) Is there a special mechanism behind the changes in somatic cell and polymorphonuclear leukocyte counts, and composition of milk after a single prolonged milking interval in cows? - Karin Östensson et al, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. 4) NAHMS: National Animal Health Monitoring System USA, 2002. 5) Mastitis R.F.
