ODELS FOR: THOROUGH DISPERSION DEPENDABLE OPERATION FAST PRODUCTION THE J. H. DAY COMPANY CINCINNATI 12, OHIO, U. S. A.
Mo 4 ul Mixers the answer to thorough dispersion! Challenging problems, in chemical processing, have been successfully solved by The J. H. DAY COMPANY for over 70 years. Data and field problems are collected constantly by DA Y representatives serving chemical plants throughout the world. With this information, experienced DAY engineers have pioneered many refinements in DAY MOGUL MIXERS which help increase production, improve efficiency, and provide a better product for users. DAY DOUBLE ARM MOGUL MIXERS are primarily for heavy duty mixing and kneading of viscous fluids and semi-solids: including such materials as rubber cement, lacquers, flushed colors, sealing compounds and plastics. Capacities in the DAY MOGUL MIXERS range from 2 1/2 to 600 gallons. The small models mix experimental batches and small production quantities. They are designed to duplicate, in a test run, the exact characteristics encountered in production work using larger MOGUL models. (See page six.) MODEL 100 MOGUL MIXER For average production runs, the 100-gallon and the 150-gallon models are the most popular. Like all MOGULS, these double arm mixers have non-overlapping (tangential type) blades which rotate at different speeds. These mixers are designed for a maximum of 75 H. P. at the normal agitator speeds. A rugged frame gives this machine extreme stability and also keeps vibration at a minimum. The tank tilts around the front agitator shaft for quick dumping. An independent 3 H. P. gear motor furnishes dumping power. Limit switches and an automatic brake insure safety to mixer and operator. Tilting is push button controlled. Jacketed tanks are available for mixes that require thermal control (see Fig. 1). The machine shown has a vacuum cover. Tanks and agitators are available in either steel or stainless steel. The deep tanks, which are part of DAY MOGUL MIXERS, provide a generous amount of room above the top of the agitators. They are not only advantageous when diluting a mix, but also prevent premature spilling as tank is tilted. They are an aid to easier cleaning since product is not pushed against the cover, clogging the vacuum lines. Also, solvent losses are held to a minimum because vapor will condense on the high side walls instead of boiling over the top of the tank. Heavy construction insures long tank life, even when mixing abrasive materials. The sides of the tank are fabricated from continuous sheet steel and bolted between reinforced heads. Replaceable barium bronze head bushings, behind agitator hubs, lower maintenance and reduce erosion behind the agitator hubs. TANK COVERS FOR EVERY REQUIREMENT Standard flat covers are of rigid construction, available in three styles: as a lift-off cover and as either a hinged or pivoted cover on a separate stanchion with counter weight for easy closing. Special pivoted vacuum covers are domed-type with two inspection ports and with vacuum fittings. Vacuum covers may also be ordered with lifting lugs to allow raising by your existing hoisting facilities, or hinged with pneumatic lifting cylinder and controls. SUPER ACTIVE WATER COOLING... OPTIONAL FIG. 1 Thermal control of mixing may be obtained by use of efficient A. S. M. E. code designed jacketed tanks for heating or cooling. Jacketed tanks have 5/16" sheet steel walls, stay-bolt designed for 125 pounds high pressure steam, or baffled for cold water circulation. Swivel connections make it easy to hook up steam or water lines. I 2

Even the heaviest products are easily dumped with MOGUL'S push-button controlled mechanism (see Fig. 3-A). A separate gear motor drives through a gear to a screw to give a smooth even dump and return. Safety limit switches are tripped as the tank reaches full tilt position and again on return. The switches control a magnetic brake on the motor, bringing the tank to a gentle stop without drifting. A hand wheel can be used for manual dumping in case of power failure. Maintenance is reduced, initial machine costs are cut. Similarly, throughout the machine, design features stress simplicity and ruggedness, making the MOGUL easier to use, cheaper to maintain. ELIMINATE PRODUCT CONTAMINATION Air Seal Type Stuffing Boxes prevent lubricants from working into the product mix. The air seal also keeps abrasive mix from the bearings. A pneumatic pressure of only four pounds is required. If air has a negative effect on the product, either CO' may be substituted, or the space in the stuffing box can be packed with grease. Air seals may be converted to vacuum chambers and have proven fully satisfactory for vacuum work. Ample working space in stuffing box allows faster maintenance when packing is adjusted or replaced. ti on Equivalent SMOOTH OPERATION, for longer useful life Extra heavy construction prevents flexing and weaving under even the largest loads. Two oversize anti-friction main bearings in a single housing at each end are lubricated through alemite fittings. Bearings are supported by heavily ribbed castings mounted directly to the base. Tie plates solidly hold the bearing supports completely rigid. A silent chain and sprocket provide a dependable drive with a margin of safety even at maximum horsepower. 3
DAY MODEL 300-C MOGUL MIXER MIX WITH A DAY MOGUL Built for rugged work, the SPECIAL MODEL 300-C MOGUL efficiently mixes the heaviest masses. Production quantities pose no problem with a tank capacity of 425 gallons. Working capacity is 300 gallons, leaving a 125-gallon space for adding solvents to the production mix. Operation is smooth and quiet, even when mixing under maximum horsepower. "Z" type blades of cast steel are dispersion-contoured and sweep the entire bottom surface of each side of the tank. This provides a thorough mixing action. Independent shafts permit replacement of either the shafts or agitators without disassembling the tank. A 40 H.P. gearhead motor provides a compact, sturdy drive to the agitators. The rugged tank is available in plain or stainless steel with or without jacket or vacuum cover. Dumping is fast, easy and safe operated by a separate motor drive, push button controlled. 4 DAY MEANS ADVANCED DESIGN AND RUGGED CONSTRUCTION!
DAY MODEL 600 MOGUL MIXER The MODEL 600 is the giant of the MOGUL line but, in spite of its huge dimensions, can be handled as easily as the smaller mixers. Definitely a heavyduty mixer with its capacity of 600 to 1000 gallons, designed for a maximum of 150 horsepower, it features tangential-type, dispersion-contoured sigma blades. The 600 has a non-tilting tank with two large flush valves. It has anti-friction bearings and precision cut spiral gears; the main drive gears are supported between bearings for extra rigidity. Independent shafts permit replacement of agitators or shafts without disassembly of tank. Extra deep air seal stuffing boxes protect product from contamination and keep bearings clean. Equipped with oil tight guards, this mammoth MOGUL is designed and sturdily constructed to insure long life and dependable service. Flush valves on the 600 MOGUL MIXER can be obtained with or without remote control. 6" diameter flush valve with remote control 6" diameter hand controlled flush valve THERE IS A DAY MOGUL FOR YOUR EVERY HEAVY MIXING REQUIREMENT
This small laboratory model has the same mixing action as the larger DAY MOGULS, hence is ideal for all types of experimental work. It is built of heavy duty steel or stainless steel with a jacketed tank for atmospheric or vacuum operation. There is an observation port. Three types of agitators can be used (see next page) which are quickly removable between batches for cleaning or experimental purposes. The tank can easily be dumped by means of the conveniently located hand wheel. This mixer is available either as a bench model or with a base for floor mounting. The illustration to the right demonstrates how the two agitator shafts on the Model 2 1/2 are easily pulled back and the agitators released, by means of a lever. The three types of agitators usable in this machine duplicate the action of the larger models, so that mixing action for production quantities can be accurately determined. This mixer is powered by a 7 1/2 H. P. motor. MODEL 5 EXPERIMENTAL MIXER The laboratory MODEL 5 MOGUL is very similar to the 2 1/2. In addition to experimental work, this machine (as well as the 2 1/2) can be utilized where small batches of a uniform or homogenous nature are mixed. The handwheel type discharge tilts the tank around the front agitator shaft. Sturdy designing permits shock loading under maximum horsepower. Unlike the 2 1/2 model, its agitators cannot readily be removed for cleaning. Extra deep stuffing boxes protect both the product being mixed and the bearings. The motor and drive are totally enclosed when supplied within steel base. Model 5 has a maximum of 10 horsepower. THE J.H. DAY CO. CINCINNATI.O.
