More Missing Jewels By John Banta There are lots of neat plants that should be in our collections but are still out in the wilds. For example, the giant golden moon flower from Borneo, Ipomoea flava (I'm guessing at this name as there is reported a large yellow morning glory from Australia) { Please give me a break on plant names as it is very difficult to get the correct names in the forest.} This is an outstanding flower; over 4 inches wide and a soft velvety surface of the brightest yellow. A truly remarkable plant! Another plant from Borneo that could enrich our collections seems rather modest but has great potential for cut flower use. It is a sedge, a white-eyed grass much like our Florida native, Dichromena latifolia, but it is much more robust and the large flower heads last for weeks when cut. I have pictures of all these botanical jewels but they are in a collection of over 30,000 35mm slides and even if I found them I would have to put them into digital format. yourself. At least buy plants from collectors if you can't collect for New plants add to our Joy!
