Water depth from rim is 6-3/4. 1-3/4 passageway. Ensure that the new toilet has the correct roughing-in dimension. The K-3471-K and K-3472-K have a 12 roughing-in dimension. See Fig. #1. Be very careful while working with vitreous china products. Vitreous china can break and chip if you overtighten bolts and nuts or carelessly handle the product. Carefully inspect the new fixture for any sign of damage. Observe all local plumbing and building codes. Shut off the water supply. For new construction, refer to the dimensions in Fig. #1 and Fig. #4 for locating the shut-off valve. Fixture dimensions are nominal and conform to tolerances by ANSI Standards (A112.19.2). WARNING: Risk of personal injury or product damage. Handle vitreous china products very carefully. Vitreous china can break and chip if you overtighten bolts and nuts. WARNING: Risk of external leakage. The fill valve nut has been factory-tightened to design specifications. If re-tightening is required, wrench tighten one turn past finger tight. INSTALLATION TO REMOVE EXISTING TOILET Turn off water supply. Flush the toilet and sponge out the remaining water from the tank and bowl. Disconnect the supply valve, and remove the old tank and bowl. Remove the old gasket from the floor and closet flange with a putty knife. Remove the old T-bolts and discard. NOTICE: If a new toilet is not installed immediately, temporarily stuff a rag in the closet flange. Closet Flange Fig. #2 Install new 5/16 diameter T-bolts. T-Bolts Closet Flange Fig. #3 TO INSTALL NEW SUPPLY SHUT-OFF VALVE Install a toilet supply shut-off valve so it is 9 above floorline and 4-1/2 to the left of the centerline of the closet flange. 9 Supply Shut-Off Valve 4-1/2 The centerline of the supply shut-off outlet should extend 4 from the finished wall. Install the supply shut-off valve with the outlet vertical. 12 Fig. #4 3

TO INSTALL NEW TOILET Position the new toilet upside down on some padding. Firmly place the gasket on the toilet outlet. Toilet Outlet Gasket NOTE: If using a gasket with an integral plastic sleeve, make sure the gasket is positioned facing away from the toilet. Remove the rag from the closet flange before setting the toilet. Carefully align and lower the toilet over the closet flange and bolts. CAUTION: Risk of concealed leakage. Do not lift or rock toilet after placement; a new gasket must be reapplied if you break the watertight seal. Fig. #5 Apply full body weight to the toilet rim to set the seal. Assemble the bolt cap bases, washers, and nuts onto the exposed T-bolts. Handtighten the nuts, then tighten them an additional 1/2-turn with a wrench. CAUTION: Risk of product damage. Overtightening may cause breakage or chipping. If the T-bolts extend more than 1/4 from the top of the nut, cut off the excess. Wipe away any residue. Install the bolt caps. Bolt Cap Nut Washer Bolt Cap Base Fig. #6 TO INSTALL NEW TANK Make sure the three tank bolts extend fully through the holes in the gasket. Set the tank onto the bowl using the bolts as a guide. Center the gasket on the inlet of the bowl. Assemble the washers and brass hex nuts onto the bolts. CAUTION: Risk of product damage. Overtightening may cause breakage or chipping. Alternately tighten the three brass hex nuts so that the top of the tank is level with the top of the bowl, and a watertight seal is obtained. Tank Bolt Gasket Washer Nut Fig. #7 4

TO CONNECT WATER SUPPLY NOTICE: Read carefully before performing this step. For supply installation, refer to the instructions packed with the shut-off valve. Carefully bend the tubing to fit. Cut the tubing end 1/4 longer than the distance between the shut-off valve and the supply shank. Remove any burrs from inside the tube. Slip the coupling nut, compression nut, and ferrule onto the tubing. Insert the tubing into the shut-off valve and supply shank, positioning the seal washer (supplied) or compression washer (not supplied) as shown. Handtighten the coupling nut, and then tighten the compression nut. WARNING: Risk of external leakage. The fill valve nut has been factory-tightened to design specifications. If re-tightening is required, wrench tighten one turn past finger tight. Supply Shank Seal Washer Tubing Coupling Nut Compression Nut Ferrule Shut-Off Valve Fig. #8 Supply Shank Compression Washer Tubing Coupling Nut Compression Nut Ferrule Shut-Off Valve Turn the shut-off valve On and check for leaks. If the connections are squarely assembled, a slight retightening of the nuts will stop any leaks. If the toilet is leaking between the tank and bowl, carefully retighten the three tank bolts evenly. Check all bowl and tank connections for leaks for several days. OPERATION NOTES: The long handle actuates the 1.6 gallon flush for typical solid waste removal. The short handle actuates the 1.1 gallon flush for light waste and liquid waste. Flush the toilet twice, once with the 1.6 gallon flush handle, and once with the 1.1 gallon flush handle. Compare the flushing action between the two flushes. The 1.6 gallon flush should be similar to the 1.1 gallon flush except extended in time and flush action. Fig. #9 FLUSH MECHANISM NOTE: Be sure the 1.1 gallon (short) and 1.6 gallon (long) flush chains are attached to the correct arms and cam locations. See the illustration at right. If the two arms are not in alignment, turn the adjustment screw until the arms line up. Hold the float under water for a few seconds to fill with water for ballast. Adjust the float by sliding it up or down on the float rod until the water level is at the marked water line on the flush valve overflow. Check all connections for leaks for several days. Float Float Rod Fig. #11 FLUSH CHAIN ADJUSTMENT When the cam is in the 1.1 gallon flush position, there should be a small amount of slack in the 1.6 gallon flush chain. When the cam is in the 1.6 gallon flush position, there should be a small amount of slack in the 1.1 gallon flush chain. Slack In 1.6 Gal. Flush Chain Note Cam Position Water Levels Study the illustrations carefully. Make any adjustment to the flush chain lengths as needed. Alternately test flush the toilet in the 1.1 gallon and 1.6 gallon modes after each chain length adjustment. When you are sure the toilet flushes properly in both flush modes, count the number of extra chain beads at the top of the trip arms. There should be no more than four extra beads at the top of each trip arm. Cut off any excess. 1.1 Gallon Flush Position Slack In 1.1 Gal.
