Foz do Jamor Avenida Marginal Avenida da Índia Avenida Brasília Torre de Belém INTRODUTION The present study was developed in the Curricular Unit of Final Project I and II, referring to the Integrated Master in Architecture of Instituto Superior Técnico, during the academic years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. This project covers an area referenced by the Torre de Belém and Foz do Jamor. The guiding principles are the restructure of the surrounding urban network, the reestablishment of the link between the river margin and the consolidated city, the creation of new poles for housing use, the invigoration of the riverine area, and improve the mobility so that there is better access to this new area of the city and a greater fluidity in the main road network bringing scarcity to traffic. Fig. 1 Location of the study area SOURCE: Autor, adapted www.bing.com/maps/ The program defined here proposes: the redesign of the coastline, the creation of a new crossing over the Tagus River, the creation of a square as a link between the city and the river, the design of an Urban Park that is created in a way it can bring new experiences to the area, the rehabilitation of Docapesca as a nautical center, the location of a hotel and a zone dedicated to sports as a link to Jamor. 3

URBAN STRATEGY As an answer to the great limit created by the railway line, a lowered square is proposed that joins the two margins, passing under the railway line, thus making the space more attractive for the population, with the possibility of resting zones and the development of commercial activities. It is also used part of the square to locate Algés station. When leaving the square, you can move around through a wide area and take advantage of a new Urban Park where different activities take place in spaces linked by pedestrian routes. In the continuation of the park, at one of its extremes a hotel is implanted that is leaning in the Tagus river. In this way, the importance of the relationship with water is further emphasized and new points of view are created for both the river and the new Urban Park. The playing fields are divided by small recesses where it penetrates the river and by buildings that contain the necessary services for the practice of sports. The rehabilitation of the Docapesca buildings is proposed so that, they can serve as a nautical center for a school and as a space to receive nautical events. In this area, it is developed a space where it is projected the location of the mobile equipment that support the events. It is in this space that one leaves for the second phase of the project. PROJECT OF REHABILITATION OF DOCA DE PEDROUÇOS In the second phase of the project it is proposed the rehabilitation of the Pedrouços dock, specifically the Docapesca of Lisbon, in a nautical center open to public, specialized in the practice of ocean sailing and cruising sailing, headquarters of various sports teams and various events. It is intended that this area works as a space that enables itself to the community in order to promote a greater connection between Lisbon and Tagus, as well as attract new commercial, sports and tourist dynamics. Its main activities are sports, boat maintenance and storage, meetings and teamwork, enable athletes to rest and body worship, and communication with the outside. In the case of a rehabilitation, the structure of the buildings is maintained and used for spatial organization. However, a central volume is added which connects the buildings allowing a single entrance of people, for reasons of safety and control of the users, and also for the memory of the old structure that coexisted there. It is proposed a division of spaces in wet and dry band. With this, the entrance to the Center is made by the central reception, and the access to all other areas of the Nautical Center must be made by the dry band, that is, a space that is clean and free of moisture, characteristic of nautical spaces. The sport and operational functions are restricted to the wet band, in order to guarantee clean and safe routes to all users. The connection between both is made through the changing rooms, in which the athletes or employees enter from the dry zone and go out to the sport activity in the wet zone. It is also in the wet area that a large hangar is installed for the storage of boats, a large workshop and even storage rooms for tools and smaller equipment. The equipment consists of a set of spaces that are prepared to receive a wide variety of functions: theoretical classes, team or administration meetings, press conferences, among others. These polyvalent areas have easy and independent access to the day-to-day dynamics of the nautical center, but always maintain visual contact with them; on the other hand, they are spaces with minimum limitations of use, working in the most versatile way and with possibilities of adaptation of the space. It also consists of a functional area that contains several administrative offices, boardrooms 5

and meeting rooms. These are located in a central zone in relation to the whole nautical center, so that they are not too far from the entrance, but simultaneously have a certain level of visibility and control over the sport activities. Considering sailing, and other water sports, as activities with inherent social dynamics, it is important to ensure the existence of spaces of conviviality between athletes and members of the club. Thus, materializes the clubhouse, this core must meet the needs of athletes, such as food, physical rest and socialization. This is in the center of the two large bodies of Docapesca, on a raised floor so that it is possible to have a greater visual contact with the river and with the city. In order to attract the community to this new complex, to guarantee a greater affluence, greater revenues and a greater profitability of these spaces, it is projected a set of commercial spaces and food court inserted in the center, but with access by both the dry band and the outside. CONCLUSIONS With the elaboration of this project, it was studied a series of impasses that riverside zone has, between Jamor and Torre de Belém. There was a need to redesign the coastline, as well as to break the boundary created by the railway line, so as to increase the non-existent city/river connection. Therefore, the applied methodology was pointed to the future, for the way in which this space is expected to live in the city of Lisbon. In fact, given the great dimensions of the complex, the functions that will take place here, will serve the whole city, working as the great municipal nautical center, where Lisbon rediscovers Tagus, where the schools practice sports, where the organizations want to have greatest events. The intervention proposal creates a complete nautical center, but with space and possibility to receive great sports and social events. It is a space that above all answers to questions about sport and operational functionality, so that nautical activities can occur in the best way possible. The urban strategic principle was then to solve all the problems found, bringing new experiences to the space, that is, designing a square that allows the connection between the city and this new park, creating new sports centers, allowing the possibility of a new hotel to the place so it can attract more tourists and in a certain way athletes, implementing a new crossing over the Tagus river, controlling in this way the great traffic of this area and creating "life" in the pillar of the bridge so that more can be obtained (hotel, health center, commercial center, among others). By rehabilitating Docapesca it is still possible to bring more people to this new territory, as therefore the creation of a nautical center in Lisbon will make it possible for citizens to enjoy more of the estuary and to accommodate regattas and large national and international events. 9
