Lokki - Yki Nummi Orno type designation: 64-445 ORNO Pendant lamp (1960) The elegant Innolux Lokki is a pioneer among light fixtures made of plastic and is one of the best-known Finnish design classics. The design is innovative and timeless. The name Lokki comes from the Finnish word for seagull, which soar in the high, clear sky while the sun shines down. The Lokki pendant lamp light features are outstanding. It provides both indirect and direct light and is non-glaring, because the light source itself does not shine directly into your eyes from any angle. Innolux Lokki is made in Finland. The pendant lamp is available in two diameters: 700 mm and 500 mm. The Lokki suspension series is also available with wires measuring 3, 4 and 6 meters. Colour: white Material: PMMA acrylic, suspension-wired ball chain Lamp base: 1 x E27 max 35 W Lokki 700 Size: Ø 700 mm, height 320 mm, height including the suspension wire 635 mm Cord length: 2 m Includes a Finnish light plug as defined by SFS 5799 Product number: 320080 Lokki 500 Size: Ø 500 mm, height 280 mm, height including the suspension wire 510 mm Cord length: 2 m Includes a Finnish light plug as defined by SFS 5799 Product number: 320050 7

The lamp consists of two acrylic shades of different colours, one nesting inside the other, and is suited for many spaces. The white acrylic inner shade functions as a reflecting surface for the light and brightens the light passing through. The outer transparent acrylic shade comes in different colours. The lamp is available in smoke grey, transparent, purple, sand, red and orange. Along with the original Kuplat lamp, the impressive Kuplat 480, with a diameter of 480 mm, has also been put into production. The two different sizes of the Kuplat lamp and their beautiful colours provide new options for spicing up interiors. Yki - Yki Nummi Orno type designation: 74-405 ORNO Plafond (1958) Innolux Yki is a classic that has been put back into production. Its clear white acrylic shade is jazzed up by a black centre disc and metallic details. Although it was designed over 50 years ago, this plafond also works perfectly with the new energy-saving solutions. The lamp is easy to mount directly onto a hook in the ceiling socket, and it is equipped with a lighting plug. Along with the original Yki plafond lamp, the more compact Yki 390 has also been put back into production. It is also suitable for small spaces because of its modest size. You can create variation in different spaces in a harmonious manner by combining the various sizes. Colour: White; centre in black Material: PMMA acrylic, steel Yki 500 Size: Ø 500 mm, height 130 mm Lamp base: 4 E27, max 35 W Includes a Finnish light plug as defined by SFS 5799 Product number: 320100 Yki 390 Size: Ø 390 mm, height 130 mm Lamp base: 3 E27, max 35 W Includes a Finnish light plug as defined by SFS 5799 Product number: 320104 11

The design of the lamp is highly simplified in the spirit of the 1950s: the cylinder-shaped clear acrylic frame is combined with a transparent thin white shade that filters light evenly. It gained its reputation when it was chosen for the collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art in 1957. Innolux Modern Art is made in Finland. Colour: white/transparent Material: PMMA acrylic Lamp base: E27, max 35 W Cord length: 3 m SIze: Ø 350, height 420 mm Product number: 320030 13

Tripoli - Eero Aarnio Pendant lamp (2008) The simple smooth arch of the beautiful and distinctive Tripoli gets a fresh look from the three rounded crests coming off the top. The lamp is glare free and offers excellent light distribution. The ball chains bringing the two parts of the lamp together complete the ensemble. Innolux Tripoli is an excellent example of how technical features and brilliant design can be combined. This large lamp is well suited for big spaces. An E27 screwcapped 24W CircLine fluorescent lamp is recommended for use with Tripoli. Colour: white Material: PMMA acrylic, suspension-wired ball chain Lamp base: 1 x E27 max 35 W Size: Ø 700 mm, height 170 mm Cord length: 2 m Includes a Finnish light plug as defined by SFS 5799 Product number: 304010 21

Vaasi - Eero Aarnio Pendant lamp (2011) Eero Aarnio s original concept of flower vases nesting inside each other lies behind the design of Innolux Vaasi and provides the inspiration for its Finnish name. The Vaasi pendant lamp consists of two nesting shades that resemble flower vases. The larger, outer shade is of transparent or smoke grey plastic, while the inner shade is of white opal plastic to allow the light to play softly. The lamp has timeless lines and its smooth and simplified design makes it suitable to many tastes. This lamp is well suited for hanging above the dining table or in a group of lamps. Colour: transparent or smoke grey and white Material: SAN plastic (styrenated acrylonitrile) Lamp base: 1 E27, max 22 W Size: Ø 230 mm, height 305 mm Cord length: 2 m Includes a Finnish light plug as defined by SFS 5799 Product number: 304121 Transparent 304121H Smoke grey 23

Lambada - Samuli Naamanka Pendant lamp (2013) The Lambada ceramic lampshades designed by Samuli Naamanka are handmade in Finland. The vigorous shape and smooth matt surface of the ceramic shade invite you to run your hand along its surface. The Innolux Lambada is a soft, elegant lamp and fits well into classic as well as modern interiors, either on its own or in groups. Colour: black, white, brick red Material: ceramics Lamp base: 1 x E27 max 16 W Size: Ø 180 mm, height 375 mm Cord length: 2 m Includes a Finnish light plug as defined by SFS 5799 Product number: 321200M Black 321200V White 321200P Brick Red 25

Laguna - Pauli Partanen Plafond (2010) The wavy, silhouette-like shade in the Innolux Laguna plafond moves smoothly from its ring and from one level to the next. The light filters beautifully and efficiently through the white acrylic shade. A suitable light source would be four energy-saving lamps that create effective lighting. Colour: white Material: PMMA acrylic Lamp base: 4 E27, max 35 W Size: Ø 600 mm, height 140 mm Includes a Finnish light plug as defined by SFS 5799 Product number: 330440 27

Designers

DESIGNERS Yki Nummi Artist, designer (1925-1984) Yki Nummi is considered one of the most remarkable Scandinavian designers who worked between the 1950s and the 1970s. He worked as lighting designer for the Finnish Stockmann-Orno luminaire factory from 1950 to 1975 and designed hundreds of light fixtures during this period. Nummi s best-known luminaires are the Modern Art table lamp and the Lokki pendant lamp, also known as The Flying Saucer. Nummi first studied mathematics and physics at university after World War Two. Afterward, he took a degree in decorative painting at the Institute of Applied Arts in Helsinki in 1950. Based on his education, Nummi had a firm theoretical foundation, especially in the relationship of light and colour. Nummi was a pioneer in his field particularly when it came to designing acrylic lamps. As a new material at the beginning of the 20th century, acrylic brought countless new possibilities to the design of lamps. In fact, Nummi used plastic quite without preconceptions. In his view, the interesting features of acrylic were its moulding capability, homogeneous nature and a better impact strength than that of glass. In addition to designing lighting, Nummi was an expert in colour schemes and design. Between 1958 and 1975, Nummi worked at Schildt & Hallberg s Tikkurila paint factory as head of the factory s design and planning department and participated in R & D for the new paint mixing system that produced innovative colour charts. Yki Nummi participated in a large number of exhibitions and trade fairs. He was awarded gold medals for his works at the Milan Triennials of 1954 and 1957. Nummi summarised his vision by saying People don t buy lamps, they buy light.

Lisa Johansson-Pape Furniture, textile and interior designer (1907 1989) Lisa Johansson-Pape s career as a designer was long and varied. Johansson-Pape s career in the design of light fixtures began in 1942 when she designed a number of contemporary design light fixtures for the Stockmann-Orno design light factory, among others. Johansson-Pape also served as artistic director at Orno. It was quite by accident that I became a design light artist. By education, I am a furniture designer, but I had to make lamps during the war. The light fixtures began to interest me to such an extent that I set aside furniture design. I am slightly more interested in lamps and light than in design. I wish to provide every Finnish household with good light. The materials used in the light fixtures she designed included enameled metal, acrylic and glass. Johansson-Pape s lamp designs always stressed technical functionality and practical use. Lisa Johansson-Pape began to collaborate with the glass blowers at the Iitala glass factory in the 1950s. A new collection of glass lamp designs was born through these experiments. Johansson-Pape designed light fixtures for many public spaces, such as hospitals, churches and ships. Lisa Johansson-Pape s works represented Finland in many international exhibitions, dating from the 1930s. Her lamps received awards at the Milan Triennials in 1951 with a silver medal and in 1954 with a gold medal in design. A lamp is not the actual purpose, but more like an instrument. It must fulfil its purpose as a provider of light, but at the same time it must also satisfy the aesthetic demands. A good light fixture must be simple and its structure and function must be both neat and correct. 30

DESIGNERS Eero Aarnio Interior architect, designer, professor h.c. (born 1932) Eero Aarnio is one of the great innovators of modern furniture design. The characteristics of Aarnio s design are playful and reduced forms and fresh colours. Furthermore, his design seeks solutions that are economically sustainable, both from the viewpoint of the users of his design objects and that of the production technologies. He became very famous after he had introduced his Ball and Pastil chairs made of fibreglass in the 1960s. The production of these classics has continued for decades, even to this day. Aarnio has continued to design many new and fashionable decorative interior objects, furniture, lighting and textiles. Aarnio has said that plastic is the material that is closest to him as it is just as supple as his imagination. Aarnio compares his design work with assembling a puzzle. At first it seems like there are just too many pieces on the table but before long the logic between them becomes clear and the pieces fall into place. He has received numerous prestigious design industry awards. These awards include the International Design Award of the American Institute of Interior Designers for the Pastil Chair (New York 1968), the 2005 Finland Prize, the Compasso d Oro Design award for the Trioli Chair (Italy 2008) and the 2010 Pro Finlandia medal. Many of Aarnio s works are found in the world s leading museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, MoMA in New York and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein. 31

Samuli Naamanka Interior decorator (born 1969) Naamanka is particularly interested in developing and using new materials in his designs. I usually aim at a new structural solution of aesthetic freshness. When everything clicks into place and the piece becomes a whole, it seems natural to design an entire range around the first idea. It s also essential to be aware of the collection s core: For whom are you designing the product? Among other things, he has developed a method, which allows images to be etched into concrete. Naamanka has recently studied and developed various recyclable natural composite materials, from which he had designed both chairs and tableware. For his efforts, Naamanka received an honorable mention from the Finnish Association for Façades, Julkisivuyhdistys, in their 2004 facade competition and a Furniture Designer award from the Finnish Association of Interior Architects in 2005. He was also awarded the Nordiska designpriset in 2008 at the Stockholm Furniture Fair. 32

DESIGNERS Pauli Partanen Artist, designer (born 1949) Pauli Partanen is a versatile artist known for his ceramics, sculptures and unique glass work. Partanen s production can be seen in numerous public and private collections both in Finland and abroad. Partanen started his career at the Finnish ceramics factory, until he started his own company 5 years later, focusing at first on glass production. Throughout the years, he has worked with several interior design architects on different hotel projects. In his design, he focuses on the harmony between functionality and artistic values. The organic forms of nature, soft curves and an animated line are characteristics of Partanen s design. Pauli Partanen describes his working method as spontaneous. 33

The Innolux Story Losing something most people take for granted was life-altering for the founder of the today s biggest lighting manufacturer in Finland. This is the story of Innolux. In his early 20 s, Jukka Jokiniemi, who at the time was still an engineering student, was diagnosed with an incurable eye condition that would gradually leave him blind. The condition would not allow him to pursue his original career plans, but this did not put down the young and ambitious engineer, who would dedicate his career for good light. As founder of Innolux, Jukka Jokiniemi has gathered a multidisciplinary group of motivated professionals around him to pursue his dream of delivering good light for everyone. Good light was a way to fight against the darkness closing in due to going blind. Meanwhile as Jukka Jokiniemi achieved his PhD in architecture, he gradually and successfully built his company together with talented top Finnish designers as well as bright light specialists, to become a leading provider of lighting solutions in the Finnish market. Finnish winters are both long and dark and the summers equally bright and night-less, light is considered as a precious commodity that brings us to life and heals our soul. On the technical side, the advances in scientific research on the positive effects of light and light therapy are fully taken in practice with our lighting product ranges. The Innolux collections include design classics from the Golden Era of Finnish design in the 1950 s and 60 s, and new designs by top contemporary Finnish designers. Innolux design lamps have been praised by both design critics and the general public, who have made our flagship model Lokki the most popular design luminary in Finland. Our models have received multiple international awards Including Red Dot Design, Fennia Prize honorary mention, Wallpaper, European consumers choice awards and one of our classics, Modern Art, by Yki Nummi, has been included into the permanent collections of the New York Museum of Modern Art MOMA. Innolux lighting collections include the Design and Bright product ranges. The Design Collection consists of high-quality modern and contemporary classic lamps that combine beautiful design with exceptionally good light at affordable prices. The Bright Collection is composed of multifunctional bright light devices promoting overall wellbeing with style. Both collections expand every year when new models are introduced. Today, Jukka and over 20 Innolux employees continue to promote well-being with quality light. The Innolux story continues to evolve with every new product and satisfied customer.
