Vodafone Global Enterprise G4S Cash Solutions Case Study G4S CASH SOLUTIONS TRANSFORMS BUSINESS PROCESSES TO DELIVER 10% GROWTH PER YEAR enterprise.vodafone.com
Vodafone Global Enterprise G4S looks to transform its business G4S is the world s leading international security solutions group. In the Netherlands, its G4S Cash Solutions division is continuously looking for opportunities to lower operating costs, increase productivity and further strengthen its position as an innovative solutions provider. Partnering with Vodafone Global Enterprise helps G4S Cash Solutions achieve these goals.
G4S Cash Solutions The need G4S is the world s leading security solutions group. With 635,000 employees, it is also one of the world s largest employers, operating in 125 countries. G4S Cash Solutions accounts for approximately 20% of Group turnover. It transports, counts, replenishes and maintains the distribution of cash for the financial and retail sectors and holds a 15% share of the global cash market. The global recession has created a challenging economic climate for all businesses, and just like its customers G4S is keen to identify smart solutions to control costs and drive back-office efficiencies. To stay competitive it was under pressure to look at its fees. However, cost cutting alone is not enough. As the market leader, it also needed to maintain its reputation for innovation and had committed to grow 10% per annum through new products and services. It is in the process of transforming from a cash logistics business (simply storing and transporting cash) to a cash solutions provider, capable of running a suite of business services for customers. It calls this new initiative 'cash smart'. With much of its spend fixed (buildings, safes, security vans), cost saving measures in the Netherlands focused on operational expenditure. Communications was seen as an area that could deliver savings and transform the business process at the same time. We could have asked our suppliers to lower their prices, says Marcel Erbé, the company s Financial Director, but that wouldn t have been enough. We needed to improve business processes and, in a volatile market, we needed a supplier that could work with us for the long term. 3
Vodafone Global Enterprise The long term view was critical. We are a solutions business; it s what we promote. We are transforming from a cash logistics business to a cash solutions provider. Vodafone has been able to find original solutions, some of which might mean less volume in the short term, but present long term gains in other areas. The solution G4S Cash Solutions knew switching communications provider would be complicated but was determined to secure a long-term partner. Therefore Erbé sought alternative solutions. The Vodafone Global Enterprise team in the Netherlands was aware there was an opportunity to present a new communications strategy. It submitted a proposal committing to savings of 30%, but also demonstrated how Vodafone services could support new G4S products. It included voice and data connections for office and field staff to keep connected at every stage of the cash supply chain and a dedicated National Account Manager to advise on communications strategy. However, Erbé says the case for Vodafone to support innovation was more compelling: The long term view was critical. We are a solutions business; it s what we promote, so we want a supplier who develops solutions for us. Vodafone has been able to find original solutions, some of which might mean less volume in the short term, but present long term gains in other areas.
