Refined Optical Design for Confidence in your Results The Nicolet Evolution 300 optical system is designed to ensure that every measurement can be made with confidence. The Nicolet Evolution 300 instrument is based on a cast-aluminum optical chassis, with optical components bolted directly to the base to provide superior system stability. Quartz-coated optical surfaces and a sealed optical system resist degradation, even in aggressive environments. Large, 90% reflective mirrors and a single Ebert monochromator maximize the energy throughput. Interferometric gratings give exceptional stray light performance, allowing measurements up to 6 A. Wavelength accuracy and measurement repeatability are guaranteed by a stepping monochromator that drives the grating directly. The micrometer drive stops at each data point, which eliminates the peak distortions and wavelength shifts associated with traditional designs. The instrument achieves outstanding bandwidth reproducibility by using discrete apertures with photo-etched knife edges and geometry optimized for the Ebert monochromator. The entry and exit slits are mounted on a single module, ensuring that wavelength accuracy is maintained at all bandwidths. The performance of the Nicolet Evolution 300 system is evaluated by built-in diagnostics. This means you can quickly and easily confirm that the instrument is always performing to specifications. Foolproof Calibration and Validation Each instrument is factory calibrated using emission lines from the mercury spectrum to assure absolute wavelength accuracy across the entire UV-Vis range. In addition, an intelligent Mercury Lamp accessory is available to end users for system verification and calibration. Like many labs, you may need to prove your UV-Vis spectrophotometer is within specifications for regulatory standards. Our instrument s proprietary intelligent Calibration Validation Carousel (CVC) contains calibrated wavelength and absorbance filters which are secondary Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) traceable to NPL 1 or NIST 2 via our own ISO Standard 17025 calibration process. Recalibration is available from Thermo Electron s UKAS 3 and NVLAP 4 certified recalibration laboratory. Alternatively, the intelligent Instrument Calibration Test Unit can be permanently installed within the optical system at a beam focus. It provides automatic unattended instrument calibration checks and can make the instrument traceable to NPL or NIST by calibrating it against the CVC. Thermo Electron can supply and calibrate a variety of other NIST and NPL CRMs and calibration materials for manual testing of all UV-Vis and visible spectrophotometers. Primary NIST Traceable Reference Materials (NTRMs) are also produced and calibrated by Thermo Electron s UV-Vis calibration laboratory.
