SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS The access to every space and service of the Laboratorio Modelli per l Architettura (LMA) has to be authorized by the LMA staff, in particular for the use of the work stations inside the Aula 2. These are dedicated to the assembly and all that concern the realization of a physical model, and they can be occupied only after the compilation of the booking form (available on the work stations and in the laboratory) for a span of five days in a row at most. DUTIES a. Can access to the areas and the services of LMA whom is covered by the following insurance policy: Polizza di responsabilità civile and Polizza infortuni cumulative or Polizza infortuni ad adesione volontaria. Further details are available at https://www.unifi.it/vp-4165- assicurazioni.html. From now on, everyone with this requirement will be referred as user. b. To access the Aula 2 or the area ex-segreteria studenti, or rather all the areas dedicated to the manufacturing of LMA, the users are asked to read and follow the instructions and rules of this document and its attachments. c. Still is forbidden (unless after an explicit authorization from the LMA staff) the access to the areas containing the laser cutting machines, the mechanical cutting machine, the 3D printers, dangerous machines and the storage. These areas are indicated in red on the plan (Attachment 1). d. Anyhow, the access to the areas of LMA is limited to the span for the realization of the physical model. At the end of it, the user will have to clear his work station. If some material will be left on it after the period arranged, this will be removed by the staff of LMA. In any case, the work stations cannot be used as a study place or as a permanent deposit. The Aula 2 can be booked (all of it or just a portion) for workshops or seminars by professors of Dida, directly at LMA, even for a period longer than 5 days (after an authorization of the Scientific Director of LMA). e. The users will be allowed to use the tools of LMA only after reading the handbooks available in the laboratory and they will have to conform strictly the instructions described. By borrowing a tool from LMA the user declare that he has read and understood the rules displayed here and in the handbook provided. All the tools of LMA, with the exception of specific agreement with the Scientific Director of LMA, have to be handed back to the laboratory when leaving the work station unattended. The user is responsible for the borrowed tools during their usage or for all of the booking period even if the tool is not being used. tel. +39 055 2755445\6 e-mail giovanni.anzani@unifi.it 1/

f. While using the LMA tools, the users have to employ both the specific protection system already on the machine, and the items from the personal protection equipment (such as the micropore filter mask or goggles) if required on the machine s instructions manual. The users have to utilize the given equipment with extreme care and it is absolutely forbidden to temper or alter the tools in any possible way. In any case, removing the safety protections of the machines is not allowed and the users have to immediately inform the staff of LMA in case of any malfunction or breakdown. g. The users have to be dressed coherently with the functions of the laboratory. In particular, the users are asked to pay extreme attention to shoes, loose clothes or clothes with laces, necklaces or long hair (that will have to be tied back during the use of the tools). The LMA staff can decide to deny the access to the areas of LMA. If the use of an item from the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), this can be asked to the LMA staff. In the laboratory, eating is forbidden. h. If any publicity will be made to the compositions realized inside the LMA or made with the aid and the coordination of its staff (i.e. thesis project, exhibitions, contest, research project or any kind of publication) it is mandatory to place on each composition the following quote: Modello realizzato dal LABORATORIO MODELLI PER L ARCHITETTURA Modello realizzato da (nome e cognome del personale che ha partecipato alla progettazione ed esecuzione del modello) DIDA Dipartimento di Architettura - Università degli Studi di Firenze Or Modello realizzato presso il LABORATORIO MODELLI PER L ARCHITETTURA DIDA Dipartimento di Architettura - Università degli Studi di Firenze tel. +39 055 2755445\6 e-mail giovanni.anzani@unifi.it 2/

RULES FOR THE USE OF ELECTRICAL TOOLS The term power tool in all of the warnings listed below refers to your mains operated (corded) power tool or battery operated (cordless) power tool, also machines and electric units. Only use the power tool for the purpose for which it was intended, with the due attention to the general safety and accident prevention regulations. s. Work area t. Electrical safety 1. Keep work area clean, tidy and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents. 2. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. 3. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. 1. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. 2. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surface such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. 3. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. 4. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. 5. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. 6. If it is not possible to avoid using the appliance in a humid environment, use a safety switch. Use of a safety switch reduces the risk of an electric shock. tel. +39 055 2755445\6 e-mail giovanni.anzani@unifi.it 4/

u. Personal safety 7. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. 8. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as dust mask, non- skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce the risk of personal injuries. 9. Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before plugging in. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. Never bridge the switch. 10. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. Always keep your hands away from moving (rotating) parts. 11. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. 12. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. 13. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of these devices can reduce dust related hazards. v. Power tool use and care 14. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. 15. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off correctly. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. 16. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. 17. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. tel. +39 055 2755445\6 e-mail giovanni.anzani@unifi.it 5/

18. Maintain power tools carefully. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage or damage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired by a qualified expert before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. 19. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. 20. Use the power tool, optional accessories, tools for each specification, etc. Always following these instructions. In doing so, always keep in mind the working conditions and the operations to be performed. Use of power tools for uses other than those permitted. tel. +39 055 2755445\6 e-mail giovanni.anzani@unifi.it 6/
