1. This approval relates to the Briton 376 range of panic and emergency exit device as and associated accessories as detailed within this certificate. The devices are generally surface fixed with the exception of the 379 and 389 mortice operators (see specific retractions to the scope for Outside Access). 2. This certification is designed to demonstrate compliance of the product or system specifically with Approved Document B (England and Wales), the Technical Handbooks (Scotland) and Technical Booklet E (N. Ireland). If compliance is required to other regulatory or guidance documents there may be additional considerations or conflict to be taken into account. 3. This approval relates to the use of the family of exit devices with the following door assemblies:- Previously proven unlatched, door assemblies consisting of timber faced and edged leaves with timber, cellulosic or mineral cores in timber or metal frames containing intumescent seals having a fire resistance up to 120 minutes (Codes ITT and ITM)*. Previously proven unlatched, door assemblies consisting of nonmetallic faced and edged leaves proprietary composite frames, of which the principal material is other than timber or metal, but may include other materials having a fire resistance up to 120 minutes (Codes ITC)*. Previously proven unlatched, door assemblies consisting of metallic leaves with metallic frames having a fire resistance up to 240 minutes* (Codes MM and IMM)* *See Tables in section 9 for full details of certificated scope for each product. 4. The exit devices are approved on the basis of: i) Initial type testing to EN 1125 and EN 179 for mechanical properties ii) Initial type testing to EN 1634-1 for the fire resistance performance of doorsets iii) An appraisal against TS26 and TS 31 iv) Certification of quality management system to ISO 9001 v) Inspection and surveillance of factory production control vi) On-going audit testing in accordance with EN 1125: 2008 requirements and EN 179: 2008 requirements Page 2 of 10 Signed

5. This approval is applicable only to the specified exit devices and relevant accessories when used with door assemblies of proven fire resistance (as defined by EN 1634-1) which have previously been successfully tested unlatched but fitted with a CERTIFIRE approved door closer. Failure to install the device and accessories in the appropriate manner will invalidate this certificate of approval. 6. Where these devices are to be fitted to pairs of doors with rebated meeting stiles, this typically represents a more onerous condition compared with plain meeting stile details tested. It is therefore assumed the proposed doorsets have suitable test evidence for rebated meeting stiles. 7. Where Outside Access Devices (OAD s) are incorporated on 20 minute, 30 minute or 60 minute ITT/ITM doorsets, the centre module and OAD s shall be bedded on 1 mm Interdens intumescent sheet material. 20 minute and 30 minute ITT/ITM doorset shall incorporate door leaves with a minimum thickness of 54 mm 8. For steel-based assemblies the door leaves shall have a minimum thickness of 44 mm for up to 240 minute applications. No additional intumescent protection is required 9. The approval relates to on-going production. Product and/or its immediate packaging is identified with the manufacturer s name, the product name or number, the CERTIFIRE name or name and mark, together with the CERTIFIRE certificate number and application where appropriate.
