OUr FOOTPrINT How it s made 6 We believe in creating better environments From how they re made to how they perform, we make outstanding floors that are truly sustainable. That s because our floors are good for people, good for buildings and good for the environment. So, from the building they re in to the world outside, we re helping our customers work, live and relax in better environments. IT S ABOUT THE THINGS you CAN T SEE A Forbo floor is always beautiful and stylish to look at. A floor that s comfortable to live, work and play on. But looks aren t everything; often, it s the things you can t see that really matter. FrOM HOW IT S MADE, OUr FOOTPrINT From how we run our factories to how we choose our ingredients, the way we make our floors is a big part of how we meet our mission to create better environments. TO HOW IT PErFOrMS, your FOOTSTEPS We include the whole life of a floor when we think about its sustainability performance. Which means we make sure our floors start performing from the moment they re fitted. The following page shows some examples of our sustainability initiatives. Flax m marmoleum Today, Tomorrow, Forever We have been creating Marmoleum floor coverings for well over 100 years. In doing so we have preserved the rich heritage that created this well-known brand with an eye to the future, ensuring that we offer the world s most sustainable floor covering while meeting the needs of the real world. By choosing Marmoleum flooring, you create better environments, today, tomorrow, forever. MArMOLEUM, THE NATUrAL FLOOr COVErING With its all-natural ingredients, Marmoleum flooring is almost like creating a floor covering with nutrients. What makes Marmoleum special is that it is created from raw materials obtained from their natural habitat right where they grow and renew, often in just 12 months time. Jute and flax are annual crops that can be harvested just like wheat or corn. Extracting rosin is a continuous process, while wood flour, a waste material from the timber industry, is derived from European production forests. Limestone is available in abundance. With Marmoleum, it is the simple, natural ingredients that create the product and give it the unique performance attributes Marmoleum is what it is, an authentic product. All this makes Marmoleum a natural floor that, after a long 30-plus year life cycle, can start all over again as Marmoleum is biodegradable. Linseed Rosin Jute Alternatively, burning Marmoleum delivers a higher calorific value and creates thermal energy that outweighs the energy used during production. This demonstrates the full life cycle circle from which nature benefits. We also recycle installation waste and production waste back into our product ensuring optimal raw material utilisation. (Uni) Solid Colour Accent colour TOPSHIELD2, FOr FLOOr PErFOrMANCE IN THE real WOrLD The reality of day-to-day life for a floor is that it encounters both use and abuse without being able to balance its performance with prescribed cleaning and maintenance regimes. That means cleaning and maintenance is not always carried out exactly on time or in the way prescribed by the manufacturer. The real world requires foolproof solutions. Multicolour Forbo Marmoleum is known for its track record in heavy-traffic environments such as schools, health care, offices and public buildings. In these applications, everyday use is characterised by high demands on hygiene, resistance to wear and the need for easy cleaning and maintenance. Dirt and sand carried into the building, hand disinfectant spills and the reality of the pressure of the economy on cleaning and maintenance regimes mean that floors today have to endure and withstand use and abuse to an even higher degree than before. Topshield2 has been designed to create a Marmoleum that meets the demands of everyday use, is even more resistant to dirt pick-up and less prone to wear with improved resistance to scratches and stains to create a floor that gives you lasting performance over time. Topshield2 provides you with a floor that: Is naturally bacteriostatic resistant to hand disinfectants Has overall improved stain resistance Soils less and picks up less dirt Better scratch and scuff resistance Is easy to maintain sport shoes hoes trolleys TO WELD Or NOT TO WELD? That is the question. Welding is a practice that has become an accepted requirement for resilient floors. This is because most resilient floors have a tendency to shrink after installation, which creates the risk of joints and seams opening up. Marmoleum does not shrink, however. That means welding, in the majority of cases, is not required. Skilled installers can make perfect joints without the need for welding. With a good Marmoleum installation you will have an impermeable resilient floor one that can be cleaned with water, even when not welded. To prove this, we submerged test floors in water for 72 hours, without any resulting damage to the floor. Welding options There are matching welding cords for every Marmoleum design. A particular feature is the patented multi colour welding cord from Forbo. This welding cord creates invisible seams. The solid, single-coloured cords can be used to hide seams, as decorative accents or as functional elements such as part of a wayfinding programme. 12 trace of feet 13

the Marmoleum Marbled Collection The marbled collection is presented in a vast array of colours, combining stronger and subtler marbled patterns together. Marble designs combine anything from three to eight different colours that can vary in intensity and contrast. the Marmoleum Solid Collection The secret spirit of this collection lies in colour nuances and subtleness. With reference to classic, heritage colours, a conceptual range of (almost) uni colours has been created. One could say this collection reflects traces of the past and present in many different ways such as traces of history in the rich colour palette inspired by heritage as well as future traces that reveal the art behind the modern process of making Marmoleum. Finally, there are twists and traces of colour and design to be found in the very subtle colour veins that characterise this collection. the Marmoleum Linear Collection Linearity is a modern and outspoken trend which we refined and brought up to the colour spectrum of the 21st century. The directional linear pattern is the natural outcome of making linoleum in one of its initial stages of creation. By playing with colour and exploring the boundaries of our production process, we created new designs and colour combinations. Taking these possibilities to their extreme, a special statement is made with three eye catching colours. For the remainder, nature itself was an inspiration for an extended range of warm and inviting hues. authentic collection Forbo Marmoleum is designed on an install and forget basis once it s in place, it requires nothing more than simple maintenance to keep it looking good and functioning properly. Still, some customers need a floor covering that they can update periodically, perhaps because of a building extension or the installation, removal or relocation of equipment. To meet these needs, we offer a selection of colours that are guaranteed to remain available until 2021. This Authentic collection provides long term certainty when planning a series of installations over a particular time. Authentic consists of a compact, well-balanced colour palette picked from the Marmoleum Real and Fresco palette that provides freedom of design while ensuring long-term matching and consistency. step safety vinyl Safety. Design. Confidence. BREEAM ratings Safety Flooring PVC floor covering with enhanced slip resistance Building Type Commercial Education Health Domestic Retail (Durability) A A+ A+ B A+ A Step: a versatile performance product Retail (Fashion) Forbo s Step safety vinyl can be used wherever people work, learn, play or go about their daily business as slip resistance is a key consideration in the creation of safe working, living and public environments. The new Forbo Step collection combines outstanding slip resistant properties with differentiated aesthetics and, through the use of new Step Crystals, each colourway offers a clean, fresh look and improved cleaning and maintenance properties. Step: Style, versatility and guaranteed performance. Step is a heterogeneous product where each layer adds functionality to the product, ensuring optimal performance. The construction begins with the compact calendared backing that provides the ability to withstand dynamic loads and minimises residual indentation. This layer contains up to 60% of controlled recycled waste, contributing to the products environmental credentials. The flexible glass fleece layer reinforces the product and provides optimal dimensional stability; but it s in the wear layer of the product where the lifetime slip resistance performance is designed in. The presence of Step Crystals throughout the wear layer ensures continuing slip resistance. The final top coat is a matt PUR protective layer which optimises appearance retention even under high traffic conditions and protects against scratches. Most Forbo Step products are finished with PUR Pearl, a finish that is stain and chemical resistant and provides an ideal finish for cleaning and maintenance. Many of the products in the Forbo Step range include Step Crystals which offer a clear and light aesthetic and also reduced soiling. As Step Crystals are made from recycled material, they also enhance the environmental performance of the collection. For Wetroom applications, Forbo Step offers ranges featuring embossed structures which are organic in design, hygienic and comfortable underfoot. Step is: A versatile, durable slip resistant product Easy to clean and maintain Includes a flexible glass fleece carrier for superior dimensional stability Matt finish for a natural appearance A wide range of colours for creative solutions Can be colour coordinated with other Forbo flooring solutions Produced using 100% electricity from renewable sources Up to 60% controlled recycled waste in the backing Step crystals are produced using recycled materials Before Now 1. HSE Compliance Wet Pendulum test 36 All Step floors are tested using the TRRL Pendulum test, the preferred test method of the HSE which is used to assess the slip resistance of a floor surface. Floors can be tested with different rubber sliders to assess either footwear or barefoot use. Using this test, a Pendulum test value (PTV) of 36 or higher is considered to offer a low slip risk. Surestep and Safestep R11 and R12 products offer wet Pendulum test values of 36 for footwear applications. In addition, Surestep Laguna and Safestep Aqua offer wet Pendulum test values of 36 for barefoot use areas. Forbo Step complies with EN 13845 due to the use of slip resistant particles throughout the wear layer of the product. This standard specifies the requirements that must be met to ensure durable slip resistance throughout the guaranteed life of the product. Floors are often evaluated for slip resistance by using the R scale, which is linked to the DIN 51130 standard. In simple terms, the angle of a ramp covered with the floor covering and lubricated with oil is increased until the person walking down it slips. The tested floor covering is given an R rating based on the angle at which the tester slips. The scale starts at R9 (the lowest slip resistance class) and runs to R13 (the highest slip resistance class). Step products offer classifications from R10 to R12, a comprehensive range of products. For products used in barefoot areas, DIN 51097 applies. The test method is similar to DIN 51130, but for this test, the surface is covered with a soap and water solution which is more relevant to barefoot applications. The Step range offers unique solutions up to the highest class in barefoot safety performance. By choosing the correct Step safety flooring for the relevant application, the potential for accidents caused by slipping can be reduced significantly. Surestep Sustainable slip resistance: these products are all applicable for general walking areas where there is an increased slip risk. Retail (Durability) CLASS LEVEL Ln,e,w IN db Floor covering Retail (Fashion) A A+ A+ A A+ A+ To measure the impact sound reduction achieved by a floor covering, impact noise is generated with a hammer machine directly onto the concrete floor slab in an emission room and the sound level (S1) is recorded in the reception room below. The floor covering is then placed on the concrete slab. The same impact noise is made on the floor covering, and the new sound level (S2) is recorded. The impact sound reduction (EN ISO 717-2) is the difference, measured in decibels, between the two sound levels recorded. The impact sound reduction of Forbo s acoustic project vinyl ranges from 15 to 19 db. 1999 Results Airborne sound inside a room ambient noise is generated by impact noise in the room itself. To measure in-room impact noise, noise pressure is measured inside the room where the impact sound is generated, according to the standard NF-S 31-074. The measurements are classified into various categories, with Class A defining the bestperforming floor coverings. All Forbo s acoustic project vinyl collections are in Class A. Forbo FloorCare method Marmoleum Forbo FloorCare method Marmoleum Forbo Cleaning and Maintenance advice; Best practice: Tips for effective floor care Congratulations on receiving your new Forbo Marmoleum Floor. Your floor is protected by Topshield2, an innovative and durable factory finish which should not be removed. The finish is part of the Marmoleum and the perfect base for your ongoing use of the floor. In order to keep your floor in optimum condition, the following cleaning and maintenance methods are recommended: Initial cleaning after installation; To start of your floor after installation it is important to remove all soil and concrete-dust. Maintenance; The following maintenance actions should be used when needed to maintain or restore a satisfactory level of appearance. After the following steps the floor is ready for regular cleaning again. 1. Sweep, mop or vacuum the floor to remove loose dust and soil. General advice Protect newly laid floors All newly laid floors should be covered and protected from all other trades during the contract with a suitable non-staining protective covering. Use protective feet on chairs and tables to reduce scratching. Castor wheels should be of soft material suitable for resilient floor coverings (according to EN425 and EN12529) Tips & Tricks Removing marks Marks caused by Chocolate, grease, egg, coffee, juice, etc. Asphalt, oil, rubber, soot Crayons, lipstick, felt-tip Removed with Neutral floor cleaner in lukewarm water Cleaners white spirits 50% methylated spirit 1. Remove all loose soil, debris, sand and grit by sweeping, vacuuming, or dust mopping. 2. Mop the floor with neutral universal floor cleaner. Where appropriate, for example in larger or heavily soiled areas, a rotary machine (150-300 rpm) or scrubber drier with red pad may be used. Tip: if cement dust is present add approximately 2% of Citric or Acetic acid. 3. Remove the dirty water and rinse. 4. Let the floor dry completely before use. 5. If required, dry or spray buff the floor with a rotary machine and a red pad. The floor is now ready for use, and does not require any further treatment or finish application. If the application of additional finishes is being considered refer to FAQ s later in this guide. Regular cleaning; The choice for a regular cleaning method depends on the expected amount of dirt, wear and desired visual appearance and hygiene standard. 1. Remove dust and loose dirt by vacuum cleaning, sweeping or mopping. 2. Remove spots, stains and spillages with a damp mop and a neutral universal floor cleaner. 3. In your regular cleaning system a combined cleaning and maintenance action may be required. For this several systems can apply: A soap film system (Forbo Monel) A wax based system A spray system 2. Clean the floor with a rotary machine with a red pad and a neutral universal floor cleaner (Forbo Cleaner). If required apply one of the maintenance product-types mentioned in point 3 under Regular cleaning. For heavily soiled areas the following steps can be completely or partially applied after step 1. 1. Scrub with green pad and a neutral universal floor cleaner (Forbo Cleaner). 2. Rinse with clean water and allow the floor to dry. 3. Buff with a rotary machine with a red buffing pad. If required apply completely or partially one of the maintenance product-types mentioned in point 3 under Regular cleaning. Use Entrance Systems As much as 80% of dirt entering a building is brought in by foot traffic. Correct use of a good quality entrance barrier mat (for example Forbo Coral and Nuway) is recommended and can significantly reduce the volume of dirt reaching smooth floor coverings; reducing maintenance costs and maximising appearance retention. It is generally accepted that a minimum area of 4 10 steps is required before soil is removed. Cleaning Regular cleaning is more beneficial and cost effective than occasional heavy cleaning. Use recommended cleaning products. High quality cleaning products and equipment ensure efficient maintenance and represent only a small proportion of maintenance costs. Always follow the manufacturer s instructions for cleaning products. Always follow the Health and Safety guidance provided. Remember that light and uni-colours may need to be cleaned more frequently. Proper use of Floor Care Chemicals The improper use of high ph cleaners and strippers may damage resilient flooring. Frequent treatment or inadequate rinsing may cause cracking, shrinking, and/or discoloration. Linoleum flooring should never be cleaned with high ph chemicals because permanent damage may occur. Abrasive powders or cleansers should not be used. FAQ How often should I clean my floor? The optimum frequency for cleaning and maintenance is determined by the way the floor is used. When producing a cleaning and maintenance schedule it is good practice to consider the situation of the floor first: e.g. is it near an entrance to the building or on an upper floor? Will it collect dry or moist soil? What level of traffic will it be subjected to? Can I polish my floor? The advanced surfaces applied on Forbo Linoleum do not require the use of polish. However, if you do wish to polish your floors this will not harm it or affect any product warranties. If polish is to be applied do not attempt to remove the surface finish. Should you choose to apply an additional coating the performance properties of the flooring can change. Chewing-gum Candle wax Rust Burns Fine grade, for dry burnishing non-buffable polishes For regular spray cleaning and light scrubbing For heavy duty cleaning/renovation Cool with cold spray or ice cubes and scrape Remove hard wax gently. Be sure to buff with a clean buffing pad. Take good care of your pads. Check and flip when they get soiled. Wash, rinse and hang to dry after use. Cleaning machines and pads Pad codes The colour codes indicating grades of pads will vary depending on the manufacturer/country, and also according to the type of machine that is used, i.e. standard, high speed or ultra high speed. For example; Stripping High speed burnishing 3M White Red Green/Blue Green/Blue Check with product manufacturer Machine speeds For machine cleaning and maintenance, 150 to 300 rpm is perfectly suitable. For the spray method, 300 to 500 rpm is the recommended speed for removing gloss irregularities and restoring the floor s original, optimum appearance. Conductive Marmoleum Ohmex To maintain conductivity of an Ohmex-floor it should be cleaned only by cleaning and maintenance products that do not reduce the conductivity of the flooring. 132 133

Forbo Flooring Giubiasco recognises that the major cost incurred over the lifetime of any durable floor is cleaning and maintenance. As a result, our Colorex flooring products are engineered with easy cleaning and superior appearance retention in mind, without the need to apply costly dressing, finishes and alike. The following factors are usually considered when choosing the appropriate cleaning regime: the size of the floor, the local site conditions (traffic), the desired level of hygiene and the desired optical appearance. The degree of cleanliness and hygiene of the floors will not only be determined by the cleaning method which has been chosen, but also from its frequency and carefulness in application. Cleaning takes time and is done badly all too often. The following instructions are summarising the main cleaning methods. Manual and mechanical cleaning procedures can be switched in order to meet various hygiene and cost requirements. Initial cleanup after installation (once) Remove any loose dirt and dust by vacuum cleaning and/or sweep the floor thoroughly. Glue residues must be removed with an appropriate solvent, e.g. white spirit. Caution: Solvents like acetone do attack PVC and may therefore damage the surface of the Colorex tiles. Do not use. Scrub the floor with a neutral cleaner, a low speed rotary machine (max. 200 rpm) and a blue or green scrub pad. If the floor presents heavy soiling or particularly stubborn stains, more abrasive scrub pads like brown or black can be used. Wet vac the dirty cleaning solution. Rinse with clear water to remove the abrasion dust and thoroughly wet vac the rinsing water as well. Allow the floor to dry. Restore the original surface quality and appearance of the Colorex tiles by dry polishing with a low speed rotary machine and a red pad. Important: where a highly abrasive scrubbing with a brown or black pad had been carried out, dry polish the surface with a blue pad first and then continue with the red one. To reach an extra shine, a white or yellow pad may be used for a final dry buffing. Alternative for clean construction sites (once) Where clean construction site principles have been implemented during construction (hospitals, pharmaceutical industry, biotech laboratories etc.), deep or abrasive initial cleaning can be skipped. Proceed as follows to set the base for an optimum use performance of your Colorex floor: 1. Remove any dust by vacuum cleaning or light damp mopping. Allow to dry. 2. Thoroughly dry-polish the floor with a low speed rotary machine and red pad. We recommend to perform two passages with crossing strokes. 3. A shiny floor is not necessarily a clean floor. Nevertheless, if a shiny appearance is desired, carry out a final dry buffing with a yellow or white pad. High speed buffing is optional. Important note for conductive installations: Do not apply any wax, acrylic emulsions, floor finish etc. as this might influence the conductive properties of the floor. Daily cleaning/routine cleaning For small rooms or areas with light traffic: Daily sweep the floor with dry or impregnated single use towels. For areas with medium or high traffic: Spray clean with a neutral and wax-free spray cleaning solution and a low speed rotary machine with red pad. This is also the most appropriate cleaning method for raised access floors. Periodical maintenance For small rooms or areas with light traffic: Damp mop the floor with a well squeezed mop, using twin buckets and a neutral detergent. For large areas with heavy traffic, the use of a scrubber-dryer machine with an appropriate cleaner is indicated. Black shoe marks (scuff marks) are removed by dry buffing with a rotary machine and red pad. Particularly stubborn marks may be removed using a specific cleaner and a hand scrub fitted with a red pad. Caution: Vinyl flooring will become slippery when wet. Care must be taken when walking upon the wet floor. Appropriate warning signs should be used if any traffic is possible while the floor is wet. 136 137
