Design your Ideal City Adrian A.-A.

My Vision I would love to create a city with a futuristic downtown with high rises and skyscrapers while staying environmentally friendly. As a coastal city on a large lake, tourism is popular in the downtown area of this city. The main water source for this city is the lake they live next to, so it s population works toward keeping it clean. Instead of focusing on population and bringing more people in, the city features affordable housing that is also environmentally friendly.

Environmental Sustainability Green technology will be a major influencer in my city s success. The city s main source of energy will be solar and wind based. Great focus will be put on solar farms on top of many residential and public buildings, as well as offices and government buildings, too. Wind power would me focused on the outskirts of the city to obtain as much wind power as possible without disturbing residents.

Environmental Sustainability (cont.) Hydroponic growing of food and crops would be popular in many residential complexes and public buildings. This farming, mostly vertical, would be efficient for inner city residents and would be a faster way to get fresh fruits and vegetables while also not taking up much living space. These farms would help communities come together to support themselves while also improving their physical health. Volunteering in these gardens will turn to jobs, benefiting everyone in the area.

Transportation An airport is located about 5-6 miles south of the downtown area and away from the lake to not disturb the population and to not pollute the lake. A subway system runs through the city with a train hub just off from the center of the city. This line runs downtown, to the airport, and connects the main districts to outlying suburbs and residential areas. There is also a bus system that is fairly cheap, influencing its citizens to use more public transportation. These transportation systems help connect many of the residential areas to the jobs downtown and in the heart of the city.

Transportation (cont.) Along with the subway and bus systems, road traffic can get a bit chaotic in a regular city. This city enforces bike and foot traffic by building more bike paths and walkways to encourage exercise and stray away from streets packed with cars. Most of the cars that will be used in the city will be electric or hybrid to lessen the effects of air pollution in the city. There are also bike sharing programs extending to the suburban areas of the city.

Education Education is something this city strives to give to all of those who live in it. There are many Elementary, Middle and High schools near residential areas of the city so that the younger population doesn t have to travel far to go to school. There are two universities in the city. Both universities are public and are financially supported by the city so that if students decide to learn at a higher education school they will not have to worry about affording to go.

Parks and Public Spaces Parks are located in many parts of the city so that the public can come together and become familiarized with each other. Green spaces scatter the city, but there is a very large area of green space with a concert hall, playgrounds for children, gardens and the occasional free, public concert. Public spaces: Museums and historical locations are near the heart of the city, Admission is free for minors, elders and teachers to get more people to visit these spaces. There is a large library which is designed with many floors for books and reading areas, as well as a rooftop area with gardens and relaxing areas.
