Safety Precautions Before using the wired remote controller, read carefully these instructions. After reading the instructions, keep this user's manual in a handy and safe place. If a user is changed, you must hand over the manuals. Never attempt to install the air conditioning system or to move the wired remote controller by yourself. WARNING CAUTION Do not attempt to install or repair this wired remote controller by yourself. This remote controller contains no user-serviceable parts. Always consult authorized service personnel for repairs. When moving, consult authorized service personnel for disconnection and installation of the remote controller. Ensure that the wall is strong enough to support the weight of the remote controller. Must install the remote controller with rated power supply. In the event of a malfunction (burning smell, etc.), immediately stop operation, turn off the electrical breaker, and consult authorized service personnel. Do not use inflammable gases near the remote controller. Do not spill water into the wired remote controller. Do not operate the remote controller with wet hands. Do not install the remote controller in a location where it will come into contact with the combustible gases, machine oil, sulphide gas, etc. Do not press buttons with a pointed thing. Do not pull or bend the wired remote controller cable excessively. Do not use this wired remote controller for other purpose. Do not spray an insecticide or other combustible things on the wired remote controller. Do not clean the wired remote controller with benzene, solvents or other chemicals. Do not give a shock to the wired remote controller or disassemble it by yourself. E-2

The remote controller will display the filter sign to alert the user to clean the filter and turn off the display when the button is pressed. ENGLISH Getting Started You have just purchased a wired remote controller and it has been installed by your installation specialist. Your User s Manual contain much valuable information on using your wired remote controller. Please take the time to read them as they will help you take full advantage of the unit s features. In the manual, you will find a series of step-by-step procedures for each function available. The illustrations in the step-by-step procedures use 3 different symbols: PRESS PUSH HOLD DOWN E-5

Selecting the Automatic Operating Mode The room temperature and the fan speed are controlled automatically in the auto mode. 1 Press the (ON/OFF) button to turn on the indoor unit. (Do not press the (ON/OFF) button if the remote controller is on). Result: The air-conditioner will be turned on with the mode selected when the unit was last used. Caution The air-conditioner has a built-in protection mechanism to prevent the unit from being damaged when it is started immediately after being: Plugged in Stopped The air-conditioner will start up after 3 minutes. 2 To select the AUTO mode, press the button until Auto is displayed on the remote controller. Result: The air-conditioner will run in AUTO mode. 3 To adjust the temperature, press the buttons to set the desired temperature. The temperature can be set between 18 C and 30 C. Result: The temperature is adjusted by 1 C when the buttons are pressed. E-6

Selecting the Cooling Mode ENGLISH Select the cooling mode to lower the room temperature. 1 Press the (ON/OFF) button to turn on the indoor unit. (Do not press the (ON/OFF) button if the remote controller is on). Result: The air-conditioner will be turned on with the mode selected when the unit was last used. Caution The air-conditioner has a built-in protection mechanism to prevent the unit from being damaged when it is started immediately after being: Plugged in Stopped The air-conditioner will start up after 3 minutes. 2 To select the COOL mode, press the button until Cool is displayed on the remote controller. Result: The air-conditioner will run in cooling mode. 3 To adjust the temperature, press the buttons to set the desired temperature. The temperature can be set between 18 C and 30 C. Result: The temperature is adjusted by 1 C when the buttons are pressed. The air-conditioner will start cooling if the temperature set is lower than the room temperature. The fan will run even if the temperature set is higher than the room temperature. 4 Select the fan speed by pressing the button. 5 To adjust the airflow direction, refer to page 13. Note Cooling and heating mode cannot be selected at the same time. E-7

Selecting the Heating Mode The heating mode can be selected only on the heat pump models. Select the heating mode to raise the room temperature. 1 Press the (ON/OFF) button to turn on the indoor unit. (Do not press the (ON/OFF) button if the remote controller is on). Result: The air-conditioner will be turned on with the mode selected when the unit was last used. Caution The air-conditioner has a built-in protection mechanism to prevent the unit from being damaged when it is started immediately after being: Plugged in Stopped The air-conditioner will start up after 3 minutes. 2 To select the HEAT mode, press the button until Heat is displayed on the remote controller. Result: The air-conditioner will run in heating mode. 3 To adjust the temperature, press the buttons to set the desired temperature. The temperature can be set between 16 C and 30 C. Result: The temperature is adjusted by 1 C when the buttons are pressed. The air-conditioner will start heating if the temperature set is higher than the room temperature. The fan will run even if the temperature set is lower than the room temperature. 4 Select the fan speed by pressing the button. 5 To adjust the airflow direction, refer to page 13. E-8 Note Cooling and heating mode cannot be selected at the same time.

Selecting the Dehumidifying Mode ENGLISH Select the dehumidifying mode if the room is too humid. Using this mode will slightly lower the room temperature. 1 Press the (ON/OFF) button to turn on the indoor unit. (Do not press the (ON/OFF) button if the remote controller is on). Result: The air-conditioner will be turned on with the mode selected when the unit was last used. Caution The air-conditioner has a built-in protection mechanism to prevent the unit from being damaged when it is started immediately after being: Plugged in Stopped The air-conditioner will start up after 3 minutes. 2 To select the DRY mode, press the button until Dry is displayed on the remote controller. Result: The air-conditioner will run in dehumidifying mode. 3 To adjust the temperature, press the buttons to set the desired temperature. The temperature can be set between 18 C and 30 C. Result: The temperature is adjusted by 1 C when the buttons are pressed. The fan speed is adjusted automatically in the dehumidifying mode. 4 To adjust the airflow direction, refer to page 13. E-9

Selecting the Fan Mode Select the fan mode to circulate air without changing the temperature. 1 Press the (ON/OFF) button to turn on the indoor unit. (Do not press the (ON/OFF) button if the remote controller is on). Result: The air-conditioner will be turned on with the mode selected when the unit was last used. Caution The air-conditioner has a built-in protection mechanism to prevent the unit from being damaged when it is started immediately after being: Plugged in Stopped The air-conditioner will start up after 3 minutes. 2 To select the FAN mode, press the button until Fan is displayed on the remote controller. Result: The air-conditioner will run in fan mode. 3 Select the fan speed by pressing the button. 4 To adjust the airflow direction, refer to page 13. E-10

Selecting the Quiet Mode ENGLISH Select the quiet mode to run the indoor unit as quietly as possible. The quiet mode is used with other operating modes such as the cooling and heating modes. 1 Press the (ON/OFF) button to turn on the indoor unit. (Do not press the (ON/OFF) button if the remote controller is on). Result: The air-conditioner will be turned on with the mode selected when the unit was last used. 2 Select the desired operating mode by pressing the button. 3 Press the button to select the Quiet mode. Result: The air-conditioner runs in quiet mode. Note Press the button again to exit the Quiet mode. E-11

Selecting the Sleep Mode Select the sleep mode to sleep in comfort without worrying to turn off the air-conditioner in the middle of the night. The air-conditioner will turn off automatically after 6 hours. 1 Press the (ON/OFF) button to turn on the indoor unit. (Do not press the (ON/OFF) button if the remote controller is on). Result: The air-conditioner will be turned on with the mode selected when the unit was last used. 2 Select the desired operating mode by pressing the button. Note Only cooling and heating mode support the sleep mode. 3 Press the button to select the SLEEP mode. Result: The air-conditioner will run in sleep mode. The air-conditioner will gradually raise or lower the set temperature internally and eventually turn off automatically after 6 hours. Note Press the button again to exit the sleep mode. E-12

Adjusting the Airflow Direction ENGLISH Adjust the airflow direction to circulate the air according to various needs. By adjusting the airflow direction, the efficiency of the air-conditioner can be increased. Note The airflow direction cannot be set on duct type indoor units. 1 If the indoor unit supports 5-step directions: Press the button: - Select the direction of the airflow. The airflow blade can be set to one of the five directions or to swing automatically. 2 If the indoor unit does not support 5-step directions: Press the button: - The blade will start swinging. Press the button again to stop the blade from swinging and to set the blade to the desired position. E-13

Checking the Room Temperature 1 Press the button to check the room temperature. Result: The room temperature will be displayed for 3 seconds and return to set temperature display. Note The room temperature may be slightly different depending on the installation location of the remote controller. E-14

Setting the 7-day Schedule Set the 7-day schedule to reserve the on/off timer to be repeated every week. At most 10 schedules may be set for each day. ENGLISH 1 Press the button to set a schedule. Result: The day is set to Monday and the schedule number displays the next empty schedule number for that day. If there are no schedules set, the schedule number displays. If there are 5 schedules set, for example, the schedule number displays. 2 Press the button to select the day to set the schedule. Result: Each time the button is pressed the square box shifts to the right. 3 When the empty schedule number is displayed, press the button and the button to set the time. Result: Each time the button is pressed, the time is increased by 1 hour. Each time the button is pressed, the time is increased by 1 minute. Hold down the button to increase the time by 10 minutes. 4 Press the button to select on or off schedule. Result: or is displayed. 5 For on schedules, mode, temperature and fan speed can be set. Result: Set the mode, temperature and fan speed for the on schedule and the indoor unit will turn on with the set mode, temperature and fan speed when the schedule runs. If the mode, temperature and fan speed are not set, the indoor unit will turn on with the default settings. 6 Press the button. Result: The display blinks once and the schedule set is saved. Note Once the schedule is saved, the schedules are automatically sorted and the schedule number is displayed by increasing time order. Press the button again to exit the 7-day Schedule. E-15

Setting and canceling a Holiday Schedule Schedules need not be deleted when there s a holiday. Instead, the holiday can be set to stop the schedule from running for the set holiday while keeping the schedule information. 1 Press the button to enter the schedule setup mode. The button does not need to be pressed if the mode is already in schedule setup mode. 2 Select the day of the schedule to be set as holiday by pressing the button. Result: Each time the button is pressed the square box shifts to the right. 3 Set the holiday by pressing the button. Result: The schedules are not deleted but the bar below the day becomes invisible to indicate the schedule will not run. Note Press the button to cancel the holiday. The bar below the day is invisible if there are no schedules set for that day or if that day is set as a holiday. If there are schedules set for a day and if the bar below that day is invisible, that day is set as a holiday. 4 Press the button to exit the schedule setup mode. E-16

Canceling during Schedule Setup You can cancel the schedule setup at any point during setup as long as the button is not pressed. ENGLISH 1 At any point during schedule setup, press the button. Result: The schedule is canceled. Deleting a Schedule Schedules may be deleted one at a time. 1 Press the button to enter the schedule setup mode. The button does not need to be pressed if the mode is already in schedule setup mode. 2 Select the day of the schedule to be deleted by pressing the button. Result: Each time the button is pressed the square box shifts to the right. 3 Select the schedule number to be deleted by pressing the button. Result: Each time the button is pressed the schedule number increases. 4 Press the button for 3 seconds. Result: The schedule is deleted and the remaining schedules are sorted automatically. E-17

Resetting the Clock Reset the clock to change the time if needed. 1 Press the button shortly. Result: The clock starts blinking. 2 Set the time by pressing the button and the button. Result: Each time the button is pressed, the time is increased by 1 hour. Each time the button is pressed, the time is increased by 1 minute. Hold down the button to increase the time by 10minutes. Set the day by pressing the button. 3 Press the button. Result: The clock and day stop blinking and the time is set. E-18

Initializing the Remote controller ENGLISH The remote controller can be initialized to the default factory settings. 1 Press the button for 5 seconds. Result: The clock is initialized and all the schedules are deleted. Note Initializing the remote controller will delete all the schedules and will reset the clock. Do not initialize the remote controller unless you want all the schedules to be deleted. Locking the Remote controller The remote controller buttons can be locked to prevent children from changing the settings or from pressing the buttons by accident. 1 To lock the buttons on the remote controller, press the button for 5 seconds until Lock is displayed. Result: The remote controller buttons are locked and the buttons are not operational. 2 Press the button for 5 seconds again to unlock the buttons. E-19

Setting the Auto Stop Function The wired remote controller can be set to turn off the indoor unit(s) after a set period of time has passed since any button on the remote controller was last pressed. This function is used to turn off the indoor unit in case the user forgets to turn off the indoor unit. 1 Press the button for 5 seconds to enter the setup mode. Result: The wired remote controller will enter the setup mode and the menu will dispaly. 2 Press the button to enter the auto stop time setup mode. 3 The default time setting is. The auto stop time can be set between 0 and 12 hours. Note Time is adjusted by 1 hour when the buttons are pressed. Press the time setup. Press the time setup. button to save the auto stop button to cancel the auto stop 4 Press the button to exit the setup mode. E-20

Setting the temperature limits ENGLISH The wired remote controller can be set to allow only a certain temperature range. By setting the lower and upper temperature limits, the set temperature can be selected only within the set range. This function may be used for energy savings. 1 Press the button for 5 seconds to enter the setup mode. Result: The wired remote controller will enter the setup mode and the menu will dispaly. 2 Press the button. Result: The wired remote controller will display on the menu. 3 Press the button to enter the temperature limit setup mode. 4 The default lower and upper limits are 16 C and 30 C. Set the lower limit first by pressing the button followed by the button and set the upper limit. Note Press the button again to set the upper limits. Even if the lower limit is 16 C, the lowest temperature that can be set in cooling mode is 18 C. Press the button to cancel the temperature limits setup. 5 Press the button to exit the setup mode.
