(Chlrine bleach may damage sme fabrics and surfaces s yu shuld spt test areas befre applying the slutin.) Bleach slutins shuld be mixed fresh just befre cleaning prcedures begin. Water shuld be apprximately 75 F as htter temperatures can decrease the effectiveness f bleach slutins. Fr hard surfaces (e.g. nn-prus surfaces, ceramic, sealed cuntertps, utensils): Bleach slutin shuld cntain 1000 ppm chlrine Add cup bleach (5.25-6.15% sdium hypchlrite) t 1 galln water Fr prus surfaces (e.g. unsealed cncrete r natural stne): Bleach slutin shuld cntain 5000 ppm chlrine Add 1 cups bleach (5.25 6.15% sdium hypchlrite) t 1 galln water NOTE WHAT CONCENTRATION OF BLEACH YOU ARE USING AS THIS WILL DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF BLEACH YOU MUST ADD TO THE MIXTURE. If the bleach yu are using is different frm the cncentratins listed abve, see manufacturer s instructins fr prper mixing directins. Yu can als use anther disinfectant registered as effective against Nrvirus by the Envirnmental Prtectin Agency (EPA) (see attached list). NOT ALL DISINFECTANTS SHOWN ON THE EPA LIST ARE APPROVED FOR USE IN FOOD FACILITIES. Make sure that prduct labels cntain language which states that they are apprved t be used in FDA fd facilities AND that the label prvides adequate directins fr use in these settings. QUATERNARY AMMONIA PRODUCTS ARE LESS EFFECTIVE.¹ If yu have questins, cnsult the manufacturer fr mre infrmatin n the apprval fr use f their prduct n fd cntact surfaces and/r in fd service facilities. Any prduct that will be used t sanitize fd cntact surfaces must be apprved by FDA under 21CFR178.1010.
Prcedure: 1. WASH YOUR HANDS Fd Establishment Cleanup Prcedure fr Nrvirus 2. PUT ON PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (change if any item becmes siled) 3. CLEANING a. Begin with clean equipment and clean supplies. i. Make sure that cleaning supplies are clean. ii. Begin with fresh cleaner in a spray bttle s that the cleaner slutin desn t becme cntaminated. iii. If yu use a mp and bucket t clean the flr, the mp head shuld be thrwn away and the mp equipment (including handles, mp bucket and wheels, etc.) shuld be disinfected when finished. Mp equipment can hld bacteria and viruses and can cntaminate already-cleaned surfaces. iv. D nt use wden mps. Sme are nt sealed and cannt be disinfected prperly. b. Clean i. Cleaners (als knwn as detergents) remve dirt and germs ff surfaces s they can be rinsed away with water. Cleaning is imprtant as yu must make sure dust and dirt are remved frm surfaces befre disinfecting r the disinfectant will nt be effective. c. Rinse i. Rinsing is an imprtant part f the cleaning prcess. 4. DISINFECTION a. Disinfectants are chemical prducts that destry r inactivate germs and prevent them frm grwing. Disinfectants have n effect n dirt, sil, r dust s surfaces MUST be cleaned (as described abve) befre they are disinfected. b. Apply disinfectant t all surfaces in the rm, paying clse attentin t highly-tuched areas i. Change clth when siled. ii. Make sure t allw the disinfectant t remain in cntact with the surface it is applied t fr the apprpriate amunt f time (this is referred t as cntact time ). Use the manufacturer s guidelines t determine what the apprpriate cntact time is. iii. Bleach slutins typically need at least 5 minutes f cntact time. iv. If the disinfectant dries befre the apprpriate cntact time has passed, yu shuld re-apply disinfectant t that area. c. RINSE Fd Cntact Surfaces i. BEFORE USE, RINSE ALL FOOD CONTACT SURFACES WITH POTABLE WATER (WATER THAT IS SAFE FOR DRINKING) AFTER THE APPROPRIATE CONTACT TIME HAS PASSED. ii. IF SURFACES ARE NOT RINSED, LEVELS OF THE DISINFECTANT THAT ARE LEFT BEHIND MAY MAKE PEOPLE SICK. d. Air Dry i. Allw all surfaces t air dry. D NOT use twels t dry any surfaces as they may re-cntaminate equipment. e. Wrk frm clean t dirty surfaces i. Always begin cleaning in the least dirty areas and clean tward the knwn, dirtier areas. ii. If yu are cleaning up any bdily fluids (such as vmit), yu shuld clean frm the edges f the spill tward the center. iii. Bathrms shuld be cleaned last.
f. Clean frm tp t bttm i. Carpets and flrs shuld be cleaned last. ii. Carpets shuld be cleaned with a chemical disinfectant that is effective against Nrvirus (see attached list) and then carpets shuld be steam cleaned at 158 F fr 5 minutes r 212 F fr 1 minute fr cmplete inactivatin. g. Separate clean frm dirty i. D nt place dirty items with, abve, r clse t clean items. h. Laundering f dirty linens/clthing i. Items cntaining bdily fluids (such as vmit) that need t be laundered shuld be duble-bagged. ii. Handle laundry carefully and avid shaking it as this can spread the virus. iii. Launder with ht water in a Virkn TM slutin r ther laundry detergent effective against Nrvirus (see attached list) fr the lngest available cycle length. Laundry shuld then be machine dried. 5. WHEN FINISHED, REMOVE ALL PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND PLACE IN A TRASH BAG 6. WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGLY WITH SOAP AND WATER IMMEDIATELY AFTER DISPOSING OF TRASH a. Hand sanitizers may nt be effective against Nrvirus and shuld nt be used as a substitute fr hand washing. 7. CONTACT YOUR INSPECTOR FOR FINAL APPROVAL OF NOROCLEAN PROCEDURES BEFORE RE-OPENING TO THE PUBLIC.
