The Ballito UIP Supporting Economic Growth In Ballito
The Ballito UIP Is Established 2013 - Ballito was experiencing increasing levels of urban decay, specifically around the issue of crime, grime and by-law enforcement. This was negatively impacting on property values, investor confidence, business viability and the quality of life in Ballito. 2013 - ilembe Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism (ICCIT) facilitated the establishment of the UIP Steering Committee comprising property owners.
The Ballito UIP Is Established 2014 Supported secured from the majority of commercial property owners 2014 - The official UIP or Special Ratings Area (SRA technical term for the UIP) application was lodged with KDM on December 2014.
The Ballito UIP Is Established 2015 - KDM Council approve the establishment of the Ballito UIP / SRA on the 31 March. After which the UIP Non-Profit Company (NPC) was registered 2015 - KDM raised the first UIP levies in July which are transferred on a monthly basis to the UIP NPC - on ground visible services deployed from November. NPC directors are not remunerated, instead they give of their time and expertise at no cost to the UIP. Furthermore, all directors stand down at every AGM however are eligible for re-election.

KDM Investment In Infrastructure The UIP contributes a monthly fee to the Ilembe Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism (ICCIT) on behalf of its members to lobby KDM for large capital projects and upgrades like: M4 / P445 link road through the Business Park Taxi Rank relocation Beach Node Upgrade Plan including beachfront public amenities
Provision Of Privately Funded Supplementary Services: Security Cleaning Greening General maintenance
Safe and Secure 12 arrests made during the period. The UIP security deployments for the precinct is 2 x vehicles, 9 security staff in the day and 12 at night (incl. supervisors) In season / peak periods additional security staff deployed In 2019 we can look forward to the inclusion of 4 x Number Plate Recognition (NPR) cameras as part of our security management plan.
Cleaning, Greening, Maintenance Daily programme focused on landscaping, cleaning, graffiti removal, repairing of bollards, signage, benches, dustbins, etc. This is a critical service that significantly improves the experience of public areas. Staffing = 16 + 2 supervisors hours 06h00 18h00 In season / peak periods additional staff deployed Skeleton staff on weekends focused on litter cleaning A roving team cuts the grass and edges in the precinct fortnightly, with KDM cutting alternate weeks.
Special Projects In addition to daily services, the UIP manage a program of special projects aimed at significantly improving the experience of pubic space in Ballito. The following projects were completed P445 centre meridian fence 700m was installed and garden planted with Dieties Repaving of 36m of business park pavements Revamping of 20 storm water drains Creating a new sidewalk outside the tourism centre.
Special Projects Cont Upgrading the old taxi rank site including: - Trees installed and garden upgraded - Open areas grassed and top dressed - Staircase installed - Path laid through the new park - Bollards installed - 4 x flood lights installed
Special Projects Cont Additional lights installed at Boulder Bay Wooden fence replaced at Foch Le Roux Garden installed on the P445 verge outside the Ballito Junction Staircase built on the beachfront at Emberton beach Gardens installed at the N2 and business park entrances as well as in Kirsty Close.

About The Ballito Area APP June 2018 UIP launched an area APP A key placemaking tool, the APP is positioned as a neutral platform from which to drive area information in order to improve the experience of Ballito Provides on-touch access to the UIP and extends the reach of the UIP service offering Contains a range of info on everything from tide timetables to local business info. All businesses in the UIP get free business listing Free to download from all APP stores
