School Nurses On their way out the nurses should ensure the emergency bag has been collected from reception by the receptionist. In cases where there is an immobile person(s) located in the medical room when the evacuation alarm sounds, one of the School nurses will stay with the immobile person and radio the Fire Wardens/School Fire Officer and notify them of their location. The School Fire Officer will then notify the emergency services when they arrive and they will make arrangements to collect the immobile persons from the medical room, safely and speedily. First Aid packs will be located in the Emergency Bag (Which the receptionist will carry to the assembly point. There are also spare packs located by the fire exist nearest to the senor school playground. Sixth Form Centre Fire Warden Receptionist Fire Warden (Visitors/Contractors Register) 07:30 to 18:00 Cumberland Lodge Fire Warden L Phillips / D Newman 08:00 to 16:30 Note: Name / Name in list above indicates that first named person is responsible for this duty but this is will be covered by the second named person in their absence. 1.2 The Fire Safety Officer must be notified of any notable staff absence and is responsible for making adequate arrangements to cover specific duties and responsibilities for leave, courses and periods of sickness. 1.3 The School Fire Safety Officer and Fire Wardens and Gold Team Liaison will wear yellow high visibility waistcoats during any incident. The Fire Registrars will wear orange high visibility waistcoats during any incident 2 Fire Procedure ON HEARING THE FIRE ALARM or DISCOVERING FIRE 2.1 If any person discovers a FIRE, SMOKE or hears reports of a fire from third parties e.g. pupils, they are to operate the fire alarm by the nearest Fire Call Point. The priority is the safety of persons. Get them out safely and alert the School Fire Officer/Senior Fire Warden on site.

2.2 If you have received fire safety training (fire wardens) and use of extinguisher, then you can consider tackling the fire if it is safe to do so. You should report to the SFO giving details of your actions. 2.3 On hearing the Alarm all staff, pupils and building occupants must leave the premises without delay in all circumstances and report to their appointed assembly point. 2.4 The following assembly points will be used in an evacuation: Junior School: Support Staff: Catering Staff & Visitors: Senior Girls School: Sixth Form Centre: within the playground within the playground within the playground Marcus Garvey Park Marcus Garvey Park Should the Playground become unsafe due to the location of any suspected fire, the Junior School secondary evacuation site will be the fenced Local Authority play area within Marcus Garvey Park (see Appendix A). In the event the building cannot be re-occupied, temporary accommodation has also been agreed with the Olympia Exhibition Centre. 2.5 All staff are to ensure that pupils and others in their immediate vicinity are guided to the nearest means of escape. 2.6 No person shall take any items with them while evacuating other than registers, nominal rolls, class lists, tally boards or the Fire Folder. 2.7 All persons should muster in the assembly areas with their responsible member of staff e.g. class pupils with their teacher, catering staff with the kitchen supervisor. 2.8 The teacher or person in charge of any class, activity, lesson or study period must account for all persons for whom they are responsible and report to the Fire Warden for their school or department. 2.9 Staff not associated with a specific Form should report to the Fire Registrars for their school or department.

2.10 All visitors and contractors must report to the Receptionists who will be situated in: - The playground area (for Main Building evacuation). - Marcus Garvey Park (for the Sixth Form Centre and/or Cumberland Lodge evacuation). The Receptionist must report to the Liaison Officer once the accountability of all visitors and contractors has been established. 2.11 Fire Registrars are to account for people in their charge and report any missing persons to the Liaison Officer or in their absence, report to the Officer in Charge of the Fire Brigade attendance. On no account are they to re-enter the building. 2.12 Any person with knowledge of the fire or reason for the alarm is to report to the Liaison Officer immediately at the assembly point. 2.13 The School Fire Officer/Senior Fire Warden stays at the fire panel and deals with the arriving fire brigade and provides any information to them, received from the Liaison Officer. 2.14 Remaining SMT to assist in finding missing pupils and contacting parents, if the need arises. 2.15 No person is to re-enter the building until the School Fire Officer has given the all clear to the staff. THE ALARM BEING SILENCED IS NOT A SIGN THAT IT IS SAFE TO RETURN TO THE BUILDING. 2.16 The Head Teachers and Bursar (or their deputies) will gather as the Gold Level Management, by the Playground gate between the assembled Senior and Junior Schools, in readiness to manage the incident, should it escalate. 2.17 All occurrences relating to FIRE must be entered in the Fire Log held in each School office. These include; all FIRES, smell of burning etc. any actuation of the fire alarm and drills* any evacuation or fire drill visits by Local Fire Authority visits by contractors relating to fire safety installations defects found or reported relating to fire installations *weekly, quarterly and yearly tests on the alarm system should be recorded separately on test sheets provided.

2.18 If the signs of a fire are discovered that has either been extinguished or has burnt-out, you will report this to the School Fire Officer. 3 Evacuation Procedures For: Out of Normal Hours 3.1 Monday to Friday 16:15 until 23:00 and weekends - Main Building 3.1.1 On hearing the alarm all staff, pupils, and visitors should leave the premises without delay from the nearest fire exit and proceed to the Playground at the rear of the building. The first responsible person should open and stand by the large iron gates in the playground until the Senior Fire Warden/Fire Warden/Fire Warden arrives. 3.1.2 The Receptionist should also leave the building and take the box containing the folders and sheets listed below to the Playground and stand next to the Senior Fire Warden/Fire Registrars Fire Folder (red) Junior information folder (blue) Senior Girls information folder (black) Junior and Senior Girls after School activities folders Visitors signing in sheets Staff signing sheets (yellow, blue, and green) Emergency mobile phone/radio 3.1.3 Once in the playground, music teachers, club organisers, and teachers responsible for after school activities/clubs should check their groups against the register and report to the Receptionist. They should confirm whether the students they are responsible for are all present, if they are not they should pass on the names of those missing and their last know position. The Receptionist will forward this information to the Senior Fire Warden/Fire Warden who stayed at the fire panel. 3.2 Evacuation Procedures for: Evening and weekend events (open to parents and public) All buildings 3.2.1 The event organiser or person in charge must nominate personnel to act as Fire Registrars. For all events, there must be at least one nominated person. (The name of the nominated person should be given in advance to the School Fire Officer during the Risk Assessment). The actual numbers required must be agreed with the School Fire Officer during the Risk Assessment for that event 3.2.2 Those personnel nominated as Fire Registrars must be briefed by the Senior Fire Warden/Fire Warden prior to the event starting. 3.2.3 For all events, caretaking staff must be present.

the duty caretaker will act as the Fire Warden the event organiser, or nominated individual, as Assistant Fire warden 3.2.4 At the start of any performance or meeting a member of staff should inform the guests of what the alarm means and explain the evacuation procedure including the meeting point. 3.2.5 Staff and visitors should sign in as normal. Participating pupils must be registered by the staff in charge. 3.2.6 On hearing the alarm, staff should assist guests in leaving the School as safely as possible by indicating the nearest fire exit. As soon as the event area is cleared all staff along with any remaining participating pupils should go to their allocated assembly point. 3.2.7 When they are clear of the building/safe to do so, they should radio the Fire Warden to inform him that the area is clear and proceed to the Playground (or other allocated area), to report to the Fire Registrar. 3.2.8 If it is safe to do so, all persons will remain in the Playground area until the allclear is announced. The Fire Warden will inform everyone when it is safe to return to the Building. THE ALARM BEING SILENCED IS NOT A SIGN THAT IT IS SAFE TO RETURN TO THE BUILDING. 3.2.9 If the Building is not suitable for occupation, personnel will be accounted for and dismissed from the Playground*. Please follow all instructions from the Fire Warden or the Emergency services if applicable. 3.2.10 Should the Playground area become unsafe as a meeting point the evacuees will be moved to the pavement area adjacent to Avonmore Primary School Main Entrance on Avonmore Road where they can be accounted for and dismissed EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE CUMBERLAND LODGE Fire Warden Duties Fire Warden for Cumberland Lodge Staff and Visitors 1. Collect the sign in registers from the wall/chair. 2. Leave the building safely and remind the others to follow. If the fire alarm hasn t been raised, then activate the call point. 3. Leave the building immediately and report to either School Fire Officer or Senior Fire Warden. Inform them about the situation.

In case SFO/SFM didn`t answer the radio, call Main Building Reception and ask the Receptionist to contact SFO/SFM and tell them the fire alarm has been activated in the Cumberland Lodge. 5. Give the registers to the first member of staff that exits the building this member of staff should then follow the points below. 6. Wait near the Cumberland Lodge to liaise with SFO/SFM and Fire Brigade. 7. Await further instructions from SFO/SFW / Fire Brigade. Assistance to be provided by other staff members where available A) Walk to muster point in Marcus Garvey Park and check that against registers that all persons are accounted for. If there are any persons unaccounted for, try to ascertain where they were last seen in the building. B) Walk back to Cumberland Lodge and report to member of Estates Team (or Fire Brigade if no member of Estates Team present) whether all person have evacuated or whether there are persons unaccounted for give names and last seen locations if possible. C) Go back to Marcus Garvey Park and wait with the girls, other staff and visitors. D) Await further instructions from SFO/SFW / Fire Brigade. Fire Warden Duties EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE SIXTH FORM CENTRE Fire Warden 07:30 to 16:30 - Receptionist / member of staff covering Receptionist role Fire Warden 16:30 to 18:00 - Evening Receptionist 1. Leave the building safely and remind the others to follow. If the fire alarm hasn t been raised, then press the call point in and take the following items with you: - Signing in/out sheets (for staff, students and visitors) - Pen/pencil - Two-way radio 2. Contact the SFO/SFW/any Estates team member. If you cannot make contact on the twoway radio, call Main Building Reception and ask the Receptionist to contact SFO/SFM and tell them the fire alarm has been activated in the Sixth Form Centre. Senior Girls School office staff to alert Cumberland Lodge and SFC in the event of a main building alarm. 41a North End Road W14 8SZ

3. Walk to muster point in Marcus Garvey Park and check that against the signing in/out sheets that all persons are accounted for. If there are any persons unaccounted for, try to ascertain where they were last seen in the building. 4. Use the two-way radio to advise the SFO/SFW / Fire Brigade whether all persons have evacuated or whether there are persons unaccounted for if the latter, give names and last seen locations if possible. 5. Await further instructions from SFO/SFW / Fire Brigade. Evacuated staff and pupils must wait at the Muster Point do not return to the building until given the all clear by the SFO/SFM or Fire Brigade. If any person discovers a FIRE, SMOKE or hears reports of a fire from third parties e.g. pupils, they are to operate the fire alarm by the nearest Fire Call Point. The priority is the safety of persons. On hearing the alarm all staff, pupils and building occupants must leave the premises without delay in all circumstances and report to the muster point in Marcus Garvey Park and wait in the muster point until given the all clear by the SFO/SFW or Fire Brigade. Emergency Evacuation Routes The building now has two emergency evacuation routes: 1. Main entrance/exit 2. Basement exit and then through side gate the first person to reach this gate will be required to open the bolt to allow exit on to the street (All keys where needed are kept at reception).
