Help Wanted: Design & Review Team Any certified Master Gardener who is interested in working on the Design & Review Team, please plan to stay after the June 3rd monthly meeting for a brief meeting. The design team will be expanding and accepting more projects, and this is the time to join us. We are especially interested in MGs with writing, drawing, computer and photography skills, but we welcome those of you who just want to learn more by doing landscaping with us as well. If you are interested in joining us but will not be at the June 3 meeting, please call Kathleen Cox or Ann Panuska. We Need Elephant Ear Growers... (For the Big Leaf...Bird Bath Project. Bulbs should be in by Friday.) There are three conditions to this project. 1) You must plant bulbs right away. 2) You must be willing to harvest the leaves in October for use in the workshop. 3) You must be willing to water the plant (maybe daily) once it begins to grow. Plants get large and make a good focal point in a bed, bog garden, near a water feature or a large container. Here are a few plant guidelines. Plant in morning light with protection from hot afternoon sun. Height: 4-6. Soil should be well amended with compost or a light potting mix containing bark, perlite and peat moss. Moisture: Keep soil damp while plant is getting established; once plant has unfurled its leaves water liberally. Keep mulched with 4-6 inches of mulch. Fertilizing: Fertilize when planting with an all purpose, slow release fertilizer (Osmocote or an organic fertilizer) and again when the plant is fully established and leaves are unfurled. Call 432-498-4071 or email me at Dbenge@ag.tamu.edu if you d be willing to grow Elephant Ears.
