Installation and Maintenance Instructions AMERIVENT GAS RELINING KITS MODEL AFL This symbol on the product means the product is listed by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.

GENERAL INSTALLATION GUIDELINES This AmeriVent UL-listed flexible gas vent reliner system may be used to line new or existing interior masonry or factory-built chimneys or vents. We recommend that masonry chimneys on exterior walls that have one or more sides exposed to the outdoors be lined with gas vent instead of the flexible aluminum chimney liner to reduce the possibility of condensation. Zero airspace clearance between the liner and the chimney interior surface is permitted. The masonry chimney also may have a zero airspace clearance to (direct contact with) combustibles and the chimney exterior surface. AmeriVent aluminum liner may be used to vent listed Category I gas-fired appliances and other equipment listed for use with gas vent. Do not use this aluminum liner system to vent liquid or solid fuel-fired appliances, listed Category II, III or IV gas appliances, or Category I appliances that may have efficiencies greater than 83%. Do not use parts manufactured or supplied by others. Do not use AmeriVent aluminum lining systems to pass through any combustible construction, such as walls or floors and ceilings or roofs. Contact local building or fire officials about restrictions and installation inspections in your area. Please read and understand these instructions and the appliance manufacturer s instructions before attempting to install, inspect, or service AmeriVent aluminum lining systems. SAFETY INFORMATION W A R N I N G Furnace exhaust contains HARMFUL FUMES, including CARBON MONOXIDE, which may leak into the residence if the venting system is not installed properly. EXPOSURE TO FUMES MAY CAUSE ILLNESS, SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY AND, IN EXTREME CASES, DEATH. CAREFULLY FOLLOW ALL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. If you are unsure about installation requirements, call 800-423-4270. C A U T I O N S U T I O N S The AmeriVent Chimney Liner System should only be installed by a trained contractor. An incorrect installation will void the warranty. Installing this liner in a chimney that is exposed to outdoor ambient temperatures in cold climates could create excessive condensate and corrosion leading to a liner failure. The liner system should be inspected annually at the same time as the appliance inspection. Leave these installation instructions with the homeowner. Proper combustion and make-up air needs to be provided for gas-burning appliances per NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code, and according to the appliance manufacturer s instructions. Use proper eye protection and gloves when using tools and handling sheet metal. Work safely around the chimney while on the roof. SIZING The correct liner size is determined by the requirements of NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code. It should not be sized less than what the appliance manufacturer specifies. The appliance collar cannot be larger than any part of this system. If you are unsure of what size to use, call American Metal Products and ask for help. Sizing tables for this product are included in these instructions. 1

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE A masonry chimney must have a clear passageway and sound construction, and be clean before proceeding. Check the passageway by pulling a test length of liner through the chimney. Inspect the chimney for cracked brick and mortar, missing pieces or holes, and repair as necessary. Thoroughly clean the chimney of any residual debris, creosote, or soot that may coat the inside passageway to prevent premature liner failure due to external corrosion. The chimney termination must meet the requirements contained in the Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents and Solid Fuel-Burning Appliances, NFPA 211 (see Figure A). Be sure the chimney extends to conform to applicable local and national building codes. A chimney shall extend at least three (3) feet above the highest point where it passes through the roof of a building, and at least two (2) feet higher than any portion of the building within ten (10) feet (see Figure A). Condensation is a potential problem that can be minimized by proper liner sizing, providing combustion air, using short Type B-Vent connectors, and by using as much -Vent as possible to line the Chimney. B-Vent liner is strongly recommended for: Chimneys without offsets Cold climates Exterior chimneys Short chimney heights Systems without a draft hood-equipped appliance B-Vent also allows for extending the height of the system if necessary. Cap Figure A Termination Fitting Support Plate Liner 1. Plan the System Measure how much liner will be necessary. Lay out the parts and understand how they fit together (Figure B). Determine where the opening at the bottom of the chimney will have to be. Locate this opening as high as overhead clearance will allow. Make sure it is large enough for the liner to pass through and to accept the mortar sleeve. Prefit and trim the flashing plate to fit the chimney. Mortar Sleeve Connector Adapter Figure B 2

Termination Fitting Support Plate Liner Pulling Cone Figure C Figure D Figure E 2. Prepare the Liner Stretch the liner with a slow, steady pull allowing it to unwind as it stretches. Allow for slightly more length than measured height for fitting attachment. Slide the aluminum extension of the termination fitting through the upturned opening in the support plate (Figure C). Push the liner over the extension as far as possible from below the support plate and fasten using the self-drilling screws provided (Figure D). Attach first before pulling On the other end of the liner, fasten the pulling cone with rope attached using the screws provided (Figure E). 3. Install the Liner From above, guide the liner cone down the chimney and through the bottom opening. A helper should be pulling the rope gently (Figure F). C A U T I O N DO NOT FORCE THE LINER PAST OBSTRUCTIONS. This could puncture or tear the liner. 3 Figure F

4. Finish the Terminations Top: Seal the support plate to the top of chimney using silicone sealant or equivalent (Figure G). Install the AmeriVent cap. Figure G Figure H Figure I Bottom: Slide the mortar sleeve over the liner into the brick opening so the label is toward the room and visible (Figure H). Seal the mortar sleeve in place (Figure I). Trim or compress the liner to line up with the mortar sleeve. Slide the crimped end of the connector adapter halfway into the liner. Use the screws provided to fasten through the sleeve/liner/adapter assembly. C A U T I O N DO NOT VENT C OTHER A U TAPPLIANCES I O N INTO THE CHIMNEY PASSAGEWAY USED BY THE LINER. MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION Gas is a clean-burning fuel that typically does not require maintenance of the appliance vent system. However, the liner must be inspected at least once a year by a qualified inspector or installer at the same time that the appliance is being inspected and serviced. The cap snaps off for a visual inspection of the outlet area. Connector pipe should be removed to examine the inlet area at the base of the chimney. Look for loose joints, debris, condensate or corrosion, and clean or repair as required. LEAVE THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS WITH THE HOMEOWNER. 4

If the vent system contains more than two 90 turns, the maximum capacity shall be reduced by 10% for each additional 90 turn or equivalent. The multiple-appliance capacity table also includes a 20% deduction because of the corrugated liner. Each 90 turn requires an additional 10% deduction. Common vent manifold length (Lm) is limited to 1½ feet for each inch of common vent diameter. Single Category 1 Appliance Vent connector lateral length (Lc) is limited to 1½ feet for each inch of connector diameter, except that an additional multiple of connector length is allowed if fan max or nat max is reduced by 10%. This sizing information is derived from the National Fuel Gas Code, NFPA54. Changes to the code subsequent to the printing of these instructions are not included. Be sure to refer to the latest edition of the National Fuel Gas Code for the most current and comprehensive sizing information. Multiple Category 1 Appliances 6

In the event a final nonappealable judicial determination is made that products furnished hereunder infringes a valid United States patent, Seller shall, at its option and own expense, either procure for Buyer the right to continue using such products, replace the same with noninfringing products, or modify it so it becomes noninfringing, or remove the infringing products and refund the purchase price and the transportation cost thereof.
