SoluTIONS for commercial kitchens LPG ProteK LPG Técnicas en Extinción de Incendios, S.L. Mestre Joan Corrales 107-109, 08950 Esplugues de Llobregat (Barcelona) SPAIN tel.: (0034) 934802925 fax: (0034) 93 4737492 e-mail: lpg@lpg.es www.lpg.es

LPG ProteK Main advantages: The LPG ProteK system incorporates the most highly advanced technology. It stands out for its low cost and effectiveness as well as being easy to install. Faster and easier to install Fires are detected by thermal sensors. Thermal links are not necessary. Therefore it eliminates all the installation of pipe and pull line. Less thermal sensors are necessary. Only one thermal sensor for every 3 linear metres of kitchen is required, in contrast with thermal links where you need one per appliance to be protected. COMPLETE SYSTEM COVERAGE Thanks to the designed area coverage of the nozzles and the flexibility of the thermal sensors the LPG system permits changes in the distribution of the kitchen appliances without having to change the current detection system. dual effect Extinguishing agent The extinguishing agent LK-2 reacts with oil under high temperature in a mechanism known as saponification, creating a coating with an immediate dual effect: On one hand, cooling, and on the other, it holds back the fire. LK-2 creates a protective coating on the oil that separates it from the surrounding air. It acts as a barrier against oxygen and thus prevents a reignition. Rapid re-utilisation Extinguishing agent easy to clean, allowing the kitchen to be re-utilised within minutes. Sometimes we forget how important it is to have a suitable extinguishing system available until an accident occurs. Modern kitchens present a dangerous combination of high amounts of flammable oils and extreme sources of heat, creating an environment in which fire is a constant threat. As well, extraction hoods capture a large amount of grease that deposits in the interior of the hoods, the fans and ducts, providing possible ways to initiate or propagate a fire. Thanks to its ability in innovation, research and development LPG is launching an automatic fire extinguishing system for industrial kitchen hoods, based on an effective aqueous solution. www.lpg.es 2

Detection and extinguishing process The LPG system comprises a storage system, a distribution system and discharge nozzles, all connected to a detection and actuation system. actuation The mechanism is monitored by a control panel called LPG artdetec. It receives a signal from the thermal sensors when a fire has been detected. Start of fire When kitchen appliances start to burn, there is a sudden increase of the temperature inside the kitchen hood. The thermal sensors detect this increase and start the extinguishing process. Extinction The process ends with the electrical activation of the valve and the discharge of the extinguishing agent (ph neutral) through the discharge pipework and the nozzles. www.lpg.es 3

Main elements of the system: Cylinder-valve assembly Cylinders of 12 and 25 litre capacity treated with a special anti-corrosive coating and epoxy paint as a finish. A special fixing for the wall mounting is provided. Release valve 128-15 that starts the discharge when receiving the release signal. Treated against corrosion. LPG AR TDETEC Control panel Receives the signals sent by the components of the system and converts them into a warning or al0arm signal. Activates the alarm mechanism that corresponds to the type of event. Thermal sensors Their temperature is adjustable. The threshold of detection can be adapted depending on the maximum working temperature of the kitchen. Manual/pneumatic release The triple electrical-manual-pneumatic release activates the discharge of the cylinder valve. Cabinet for cylinder Stainless steel. Easily fixed to the wall. (12 and 25 l.) Nozzles The nozzles provide an even and efficient discharge. Installed directly into the distribution pipework. Nickel-plated. Contain filter and stainless protector cap to avoid the ingress of dirt into the system. LPG has 5 models available (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B and 2C) that are chosen according to the specific characteristics of the kitchen to be protected. Complete coverage LPG s kitchen hood protection system incorporates highly advanced technology whose efficiency and flexibility stands out. The thermal sensors that detect a fire are adaptable to the working conditions in the kitchen. Their flexibility allows for changes in the number of fryers or stoves and their distribution without having to modify the location of the sensors. Due to the special design of the nozzles, discharge is homogenous and efficient. Their wide coverage provides a rapid extinguishment using the LK-2 extinguishing agent. www.lpg.es 4

The LK-2 extinguishing agent is a highly efficient aqueous solution based on potassium salts. No mixing or dilution is required. It is ready for use on delivery. LK-2, dual effect extinguishing agent Characteristics: Dual efect: Cooling: Under exposure to high temperature the agent reacts with the oil in a mechanism called saponification. This generates a foam that cools the oil. Fire containment: The extinguishing agent shields the oil from further contact with oxygen, stopping the fire and preventing possible reignition. It provides a faster extinction than other methods. Non-corrosive In contrast to other extinguishing agents, LK-2 is an aqueous solution with a neutral ph. It does not corrode metals in a kitchen (stainless steel, aluminium, brass ). Easy cleaning The extinguishing agent is easily washable with water or steam and so permits the reinstatement of the kitchen within minutes. Safe for people LK-2 is an extinguishing agent that does not generate toxic vapours during discharge. Ideal for protecting places where people are present. Safe for the environment LK-2 is biodegradable and so does not generate any damage to the environment. 95% of the product degrades in 28 days. Ideal for class F fires LK-2 is especially designed to extinguish type F fires, namely fires ignited from kitchen oil or from grease inside the ducts, and it is also suitable for class A fires. www.lpg.es 5

Benefits of the LPG ProteK system Safety and quality guarantee The LPG valves are 100% tested and offer a reliable and safe performance in all their functions. They are designed and manufactured by LPG and incorporate protection against accidental discharge due to any possible micro-leakage. Complete extinction in multiple appliances Good protection requires an extinction of the fire, as well as a cooling of the oil to avoid reignition. The protected range should include fryers, hobs, extraction hood filters and fume extract ducts. Thanks to an improved design LPG ProteK is a better solution than other detection and extinguishing systems. Flexibility of design The pipe network can be designed in such a manner that it does not interfere with the workflow in the kitchen. The system is available in two cylinder sizes (12 l. and 25 l.) and can be adapted to fit any kind of kitchen structure or placement of kitchen appliances. Subsequent changes in the placement of the appliances are possible. It is capable of activating remote visual or acoustic alarms. One single release signal can trigger several cylinders. Electrical and manual activation The manual release allows an activation of the system at the first sign of fire, even before it is automatically released. Non-toxic LPG ProteK does not release toxic vapours during discharge. It is ideal for the protection of normally occupied premises., Space saving It needs less space in comparison to systems based on CO2. Permanently active Many fires start in empty premises due to hot coals, fryers that have not been switched off, etc Consequently, the detection and extinguishing system must function 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, with or without the presence of personnel. www.lpg.es 6
