BRAN 1. PRODUCT PRESENTATION Introduction This chapter contains general descriptions relative to the BRAN family. Please refer to the specifi c sections of this bulletin for more detailed information. 1.1 BRAT units BRAN is the Climaveneta range of air-cooled reversible heat pumps with gas R410A. They are outdoor units with axial fans, hermetic Scroll compressors and Full Floating technology. The latter is an intelligent electronic unit providing the perfect answer to residential market requirements: compactness, ease of installation and quietness. 1.2 Operate in respect of the environment R-410A is an ecological gas because its high efficiency reduces electricity consumption and consequently CO2 emissions and because it does not damage the ozone layer (ODP = 0). 1.3 Full Floating control logic The new generation electronic controller allows to manage the chiller by using the Full Floating technology, designed by Climaveneta for improving the system s effi ciency for the fans (Floating Fans), for the circulating pump (Floating Flow) and fi nally for the working temperature (Floating Setpoint). This also allows to achieve all the following benefi ts: improvement of efficiency in both standard and extreme conditions, much lower operating noise in part load conditions, lower installation time, lower time for system set-up, broader operating limits, faster transient after defrosts. 1.5 Silent-running BRAN units are distinguished by their quiet running. Condensation is controlled by managing the fan rotation speed according to the condensation pressure. In this way the ventilation noise is reduced to a minimum whenever operating conditions allow it. Dedicated versions are also contemplated to ensure low noise in any working environment. 1.6 Energy savings The working setpoint of BRAN units can be managed according to the logics that best adapt to the severest application requirements. The ECONOMY and COMFORT functions, in fact, can change the operating conditions of the machine in a fi xed or dynamic way, without compromising system functionality and assuring maximum energy saving. 1.7 Advantages The technological choices focussed on providing maximum quality and on the use of the most innovative technologies enable the BRAN unit to ensure maximum energy effi ciency, easy installation thanks to its compact size, versatility and settings for integration in the Idrorelax centralized hydronic system (HY- PERLINK http:// www.idrorelax.it www.idrorelax.it). 1.4 Versatility Thanks to their simplicity of installation, BRAN units can satisfy all system and application requirements. They can be supplied without the hydronic unit (BRAN FFT) or with integrated hydronic unit on board the unit (BRAN FF). In addition to the circulation pump, the latter are also equipped with all the hydraulic components necessary for the correct operation of the system, as well as with protection logic that ensures maximum reliability in all conditions of use. BRAN 2.6 Accessories - REMOTE KEYBOARD HSW10 (supplied separately) HSW remote keyboard with LCD display and 4 buttons. Its pleasant, modern design blends well with all furnishing styles. The HSW remote keyboard faithfully replicates the controller display on the unit and further simplifi es all the operations of confi guration and control of the applications via the large dual display. - EXTERNAL AIR PROBE (supplied separately) The external air probe makes it possible to enable the water setpoint offset for external air temperature, optimising the energy effi ciency of the unit according to external conditions. The external air probe must be combined with the remote keyboard HSW12. - FLOW SWITCH (supplied separately) Flow switch for checking the absence or excessive decrease of fl ow in system pipes for air-conditioning and industrial treatment and cooling systems. - WATER FILTER (supplied separately) Y-fi lter designed and built to capture the impurities in the hydraulic circuit. It is fitted with a 0.9 mm stainless steel mesh cartridge, which can be regenerated or replaced without removing the valve body from the piping. 2.7 Connectivity Connections can be made to propriety supervision systems via a serial port with ModBUS-RTU protocol. To connect the unit, an additional serial interface module is used to connect the onboard electronic control unit to an RS485 serial network. The interface module is fi tted with a TTL serial input for connection to the unit controller and an output on the optoisolated RS485 screw terminals for connection to the communication network. Signal insulation using optoisolators assures protection against any electromagnetic disturbance in the communication network that could damage the control device and jeopardise the functionality of the conditioning system. The interface module is available in the 3 DIN Rail format for installation on an omega din guide, with IP40 front protection. 4 BRAN_0011_0121 HFC R410A

BRAN 3. ELECTRONIC CONTROLLER The HSW15 device is the new Climaveneta controller for the management of air-cooled units. The new 4-digit display offers clear reading of the variables in play, while the 14 symbols give an immediate view of machine states for system diagnostics. The 4 keys can be used to navigate the tree menu, access to which is password-protected for maximum security. The controller integrates the Full Floating function which allows the units to be used even in the absence of inertial storage boilers. The algorithm, in fact, assures ideal operating conditions by modifying the control parameters, thus varying the speed of the system pump and the aperture of the outlet valve, as well as the temperature setpoint of the unit. The latter characteristic can be used to adapt operating conditions in order to reduce the frequency of compressor start-ups during the periods in which the heat demand from the rooms to condition is limited. As a result, the presence of inertial storage boilers becomes superfl uous and it is therefore possible to eliminate the direct purchase and installation cost, thus limiting the size of the system. The electronics also incorporates a series of protection algorithms in order to prevent damage being done to the main system components. The most important include parameters concerning compressor start-up times in order to prevent over-frequent starting times (minimum delay after last stop and minimum delay after last start). To prevent the water inside the plate exchanger from freezing and breaking it, the control electronics also blocks the compressor if the temperature of the water measured by the probe leaving the exchanger is lower than a protection setpoint (anti-freeze setpoint). There is also a water flow alarm activated by differential pressure switches installed standard on the unit, or by optional fl ow switches that can be added to the system during installation. Condensation control is managed by modulating the air fl ow through the condensation coils by varying the ventilation speed. There are also two energy-saving functions (ECONOMY and COMFORT) that manage a temperature setpoint either in a fi xed way, or dynamically according to the temperature of the water produced on the system side. To enable this function, connect an additional temperature probe to the unit, position it in the external air (accessory) and also the relative configuration parameters of the control algorithm. This function can also be used to improve the level of comfort by continually optimising the ambient according to external environmental conditions. 3.1 Heat adjustment Temperature adjustment is based on the water returning from the system. The setpoints refer to the temperature of the return water. The temperature of the delivery water depends on the difference between the inlet and the outlet water. This is generally the rated difference of 5 C. The thermal head can change depending on the type of hydraulic system. The controller is fi tted with Full Floating technology which, after the scanning period, optimises the water setpoint in relation to compressor operating time and water temperature. 3.2 Compressor start delay Two functions have been introduced to avoid over-frequent compressor start-ups: - minimum delay after last stop 3 minutes. - minimum delay after last start 5 minutes. 3.4 Antifreeze alarm The anti-freeze function is active even if the controller is on stand-by. To prevent the plate exchanger from breaking due to the water inside it freezing, the microprocessor blocks the compressor and starts the plate exchanger heater if the temperature detected by the temperature probe of the water leaving the exchanger is less than +4 C. This set anti-freeze temperature can only be changed by an authorised assistance centre and only after checking that there is an anti-freeze solution in the hydraulic circuit. If this alarm trips, it blocks the compressor and not the pump which remains active. To resume normal operation, the temperature of the outlet water must rise by over +7 C. Reset is automatic. If the number of anti-freeze interventions is more than 3 in an hour, reset becomes manual. 3.3 System-side circulation pump (FF models) The electronic board has an output for managing the circulation pump. This is always active. The pump switches off 1 minute after the unit switches off (stand-by). After 1 minute of pump operation, when the water fl ow reaches full capacity, the water fl ow alarm functions are activated (differential pressure switch and flow switch). The FFT models (circulation pump not included) are provided contacts (on the electrical board terminal block) for the management of an external pump. 5 BRAN_0011_0121 HFC R410A

BRAN 3.5 Full Floating function BRAT units have the special integrated Full Floating function which allows the units to be used even in the absence of inertial storage tanks. The algorithm allows searching for the optimum working conditions by modifying the control parameters, thus varying the speed of the pumps and the air fl ow rate through the finned coil, as well as the system temperature setpoint. This feature allows the system working conditions to be adapted so as to limit frequent switching on and off of the compressor during the periods in which there is a limit demand for heat in the environments to be conditioned. In this way the presence of inertial storage tanks becomes superfl uous, and it is therefore possible to eliminate their direct cost of purchase and installation, thus also reducing the dimensions of the system. The Full Floating control algorithm is based on the management of the 3 main system parameters, linked to the fl ow and temperature of water in the system and to the unit s evaporation and condensation conditions. VENTILATION MANAGEMENT (FLOATING FANS) The correct management of condensation and evaporation in the coil is accomplished by controlling the air fl ow rate, based on the pressure value found in the cooling circuit by means of a dedicated 4..20mA transducer installed near the fi nned pack. The main benefi ts obtained are: - optimization of the compressor working parameters based on the environmental conditions - improvement of energy effi ciency in partial load conditions - more silent operation. CIRCULATION PUMP MANAGEMENT (FLOATING PUMP) Dedicated control electronics allow pump management so as to modulate the water fl ow rate through the plate exchanger in the compressor start-up phase, until the system is operating at a steady speed. The pump is off in the case of: - alarm condition in the hydraulic circuit - unit switched off (not powered) The pump is at maximum speed in the case of: - active antifrost alarm - active defrost cycle - standard working conditions. The pump is modulating in the case of: - unit inactive but on (stand-by conditions selected by electronic controller) - compressors off and water temperature reached (system setpoint satisfi ed) - compressors in alarm status. The main benefi ts obtained are shorter times to reach steady operating speeds between different working conditions (for example when leaving the defrost cycles). TEMPERATURE SETPOINT MANAGEMENT (FLOATING SETPOINT) A specifi c algorithm continuously and automatically calculates the system setpoint, raising or lowering its value in order to correct the work of the unit as the system load varies. The correct setting of the parameters for the on and off times protects the compressor against mechanical and thermal stress which could damage its operation and therefore its working life. The variation of the system working setpoint, respecting the compressor protection times, allows correction of the water temperature produced in order to ensure continuity of operation and the comfort provided by the distribution points in the rooms. toff/on toff/on Compressor ON COMPRESSORE ACCESO ton/on ton/on timetempo ton/on = time between two consecutive switch-on actions of the compressor toff/on = time between switching off and consecutive switching on of the compressor The main benefi ts obtained are therefore: - reduction of the number of switch-on and switch-off cycles of the compressors, with consequent extension of their mean working life - less swings in temperature and consequent reduction of the amount of water in the system. 6 BRAN_0011_0121 HFC R410A

BRAN 3.6 Comfort function Dynamic setpoint change function according to the external temperature measured by a special temperature sensor (not included in the supply, available as an accessory). As well as saving electricity, it makes it possible to produce the quantity of cold required to assure conditions of comfort in accordance with the real load and external air temperature conditions to the air to be conditioned. The unit must be fitted with an external air temperature sensor that can be directly connected to the unit or remote keyboard. The setpoint modifi cation function must be enabled from the parameter, see table. Water setpoint External air temperature The indicated values are factory settings.
