30 June: Iconic Shanghai landmark Wheelock Square is a super-prime office building with an international outlook and strong environmental awareness. Green Monday is a social enterprise that strives to promote green and healthy lifestyle, with a particular emphasis on advocating meatless diet once a week. The two have teamed up with famous Hong Kong make-up artist to the stars Annie G. Chan to launch an environmentally-friendly make-up exhibition called 'Enlighten Our Green Senses'. More importantly, this is the first time that Green Monday has brought the idea of one meatfree day a week to Shanghai and the city's office workers. The make-up exhibition was held in the first-floor lobby of Wheelock Square, and showcased 15 celebrity ad campaigns featuring various colors and styles of make-up. The aim of this unique, highly artistic exhibition was to present different stylish green lifestyles. The many celebrities participating in the event used their artistic creations to draw attention to the issues affecting our planet today. The 15 stars that took part in the styling and shooting for the event were: Annie Liu, Fala Chen, Cherry Ngan, C Allstar, Him Law, Karena Ng, Liu Xuan, Cher, Kandy, Evelyn Choi, Derek Li, SimC, Super Girls, Xu Zhaoping and EJ. By creating a new style for each of the celebrities based on their look and what type of performer they are, make-up artist Annie G. aimed to reinterpret and bring greater depth to what it means to protect the environment. Furthermore, rolling highlights footage showed viewers the creative ideas and stories behind the event. Without doubt, the way the make-up artists and celebrities were taking action to show their support for the case, and the earnestness and close proximity of the Green Monday team struck a chord with many Shanghai office workers. The subject of Earth s Destiny by Annie Liu was the overexploitation of resources, today's ecological imbalance, and the emergence of extreme weather phenomena such as acid rain and hail. Cherry Ngan's The Eco-Karma, meanwhile, was about the blind pursuit of economic growth and the toll that industrial pollution has taken on soil, the o- zone layer, rivers and oceans. Green Monday and Wheelock Square had specially invited Liu Xuan, Cher, Cherry Ngan, and make-up artist Annie G. to attend the opening ceremony and show their support for this case. Former Olympic champion Liu Xuan said that everyone had a little 'green' in their hearts, and that she hoped to make more people aware of Green Monday. She also revealed that 90% of the crew of this exhibition decided to give up meat on Mondays. Of course, she was one of them. The Shanghai exhibition of the Enlighten Our Green Senses Asia tour is due to stay until July 27. What's more, as part of its 8 Hours of Positive Energy scheme, Wheelock Square has also teamed up with Green Monday to encourage office workers in the 2
building to lead greener lives. The initiative is divided into three sections: Live Green, Work Green, Eat Green. Each section informs people of the positive impact that leading a greener lifestyle can have on the environment, and encourages office workers to take action and make their own commitment to protecting the environment. It also advocates the health benefits of vegetarianism. To maximize the response to this event and introduce Green Monday's Meatfree Monday initiative to more people beyond Shanghai's office workers, in the next six months DOZO izakaya in the building's South Annex and 10 Corso Como Shanghai Italian restaurant in the North Annex will unveil their unique Green Menu to the public. With this meticulously-prepared vegetarian menu, starting from this summer, not only will office workers be able to enjoy the visual delights of the Enlighten Our Green Senses exhibition, but can also enjoy the delicious taste and health benefits of vegetarian food. What's more, we will be encouraging staff from the building's Fortune 500 companies to begin introducing these concepts into every aspect of their work and home lives, as they easily take the first step in leading a greener lifestyle. Shanghai Wheelock Square Deputy General Manager (PR and Marketing) Regina Leung said: "Green Monday is only the first step towards a low-carbon lifestyle, but we believe it will bring tremendous changes. Having a meat-free Monday every week, eating more vegetables and less meat, not wasting food, turning off lights, and using low-carbon travel every Monday - these things might not sound like much, but when you add them together they make a huge difference. Not only are they good for the environment, but they also have health benefits. Starting from this Monday, Wheelock Square will be putting green concepts into practice to encourage more people to adopt green lifestyles. White collar professionals have hectic work schedules and face a lot of pressure every day. At a time when environmental and health problems are becoming increasingly acute, a healthy and sustainable lifestyle is even more important. We hope that, despite their hectic nine to five work lives, office workers at Wheelock Square can create their own lifestyles. In 2014, we'll be working hard to introduce events that would feature greater participation and interaction. We encourage everyone to put their ideas into action, and to go one step further in making physical and mental balance a reality. This is also a new direction for Wheelock Square's 8 Hours of Positive Energy initiative beyond the arts, culture, fashion and philanthropy. Owning by city' super, superlife culture club's executive chef from Hongkong attended t his event and introduced some exquisite vegetarian dishes and showed guests and the audience how to make them. In addition to eat in the canteen, office workers can choose to buy vegetarian ingredient and learn how to cook vegetarian at home, enjoying a healthy lifestyle with their family. In front of the event's display board and photo wall, 3
members of staff held up green promises such as 'Meatless Mondays', 'Precious Paper', Knight on a Bike' and 'Turn off the Light' as they smiled for a group photo, showing their commitment to protect the environment.
