SECTION 1 - PRECAUTIONS SAFETY PRE-CAUTIONS This is a general-purpose vacuum oven for professional, industrial or educational use. It is suitable for a working environment where no flammable, volatile or combustible materials are being heated. This oven is not intended for hazardous or household use. Your satisfaction and safety require a complete understanding of this unit. Read the complete set of instructions thoroughly and be sure all operators are given adequate training before attempting to put the unit in service. This equipment must be used only for its intended application; ANY ALTERATIONS OR MODIFICATIONS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY. OBEY ALL LAWS & LOCAL ORDINANCES Local city, county or other ordinances may govern the use of your vacuum oven. If you have any questions about local installation requirements, please contact the appropriate local agency. 3
SECTION 2 - SAFETY This is not an explosion proof oven. This is not an explosion proof pump. It is important to keep the oven and pump away from solvent vapors. Solvent vapors are denser than air and will pool and collect close to the ground. It is important to take the following precautions: 1. Use in an area with adequate ventilation or under a fume hood. 2. Use the supplied exhaust hose to vent the offgassing solvents out of the work area. The outgassed solvent should be vented outside or into a fume hood. 3. Elevate the oven and pump to prevent exposure to the pooling solvent vapors. The oven is intended to be on a lab bench or a counter. 4. The oven must be elevated 30 inches above the ground. Safety Appliances Cascade Botanical has supplied a sample Butane/Propane detector with the standard connection kit. More precise and NRTL certified gas detectors are available for purchase online or from local outlets. Operation: 1. Hold down the power button and place the sensor ½ inch from the potential leak. 2. When checking for potential leaks make sure to slowly move the sensor around the area. 10% LEL 5% LEL If gas is detected the unit will provide an audible alarm. Depending on the level of gas the yellow (5% Lower Explosive Limit- LEL) or red (10% Lower Explosive Limit) LED will illuminate. Do not rely on this gas detector alone to ensure safe operations. SECTION 4 - PUMP INSTALLATION 1. Connect the black 3/8 Tube to the fitting located on the rear of the vacuum pump, use the plastic clamp to secure. Exhaust hose must be installed prior to operation. 1 2. Route the open end of the black exhaust tube away from the back of the oven and the pump. Caution: Vapors from the pump may be flammable. Keep the vacuum pump exhaust hose away from any ignition source. 2 3. The clear hose with the screw-compression clamp needs to be placed on the pump inlet. Tighten the screw clamp down. 4. Plug in the vacuum pump to a power source. 3 6
SECTION 5 - OVEN INSTALLATION Locate the 3/8 tube stub with barb and the ¼ tube stub with barb packed with the oven accessories. You will not need to use the smaller, ¼ barb unless you plan to connect nitrogen, clean air or some other gas to your vent port. 3/8 th ¼ option to connect to vent port On the back of the oven, remove the tape around the connections labeled VACUUM and VENT. Vacuum is where you will connect the clear pump hose supplied in our connection kit. 7
Unscrew the nut from the back of the oven s port labeled VACUUM. Be careful to keep the two internal ferrules in place. Make sure the barb looks like this. INTO OVEN INTO HOSE 3/8 Barbed end insert into hose MAKE SURE FERRULES ARE IN THIS ORDER INTO OVEN 3/8 Barbed end insert into clear hose 8
Insert the barbed end of the 3/8 Tube stub into the end of the clear vacuum hose. Tighten the compression clamp with a screwdriver. Hand tighten the compression fitting on the back of the oven. Use two wrenches (sizes 11/16 and 3/4) to tighten the connection. Hold the 3/4 wrench stationary while turning the 11/16 wrench. 1.25 to 1.5 of a turn is sufficient to tighten. 9
SECTION 6 IMPORTANT NOTES: Power Source: The electrical supply circuit to the vacuum oven must conform to all national and local electrical codes. Consult the oven s data plate for the voltage, cycle, and amperage requirements before making connection. VOLTAGE SHOULD NOT VARY MORE THAN 10% FROM THE DATA PLATE RATING. This unit is intended for 50/60 Hz operation. A separate circuit is strongly recommended to prevent possible loss of product due to overloading or failure of other equipment on the same circuit. Location: When selecting a site for the oven, consider all conditions that may affect performance, such as extreme heat from radiators, stoves, other ovens, autoclaves, etc. Avoid direct sun, rapid air currents, heating/cooling ducts, and high traffic areas. To ensure proper air circulation around the unit, allow a minimum of 30 cm between the oven and any walls or partitions that might obstruct free airflow. Important: The oven must be elevated 30 inches above the floor (sitting on a standard table top). Lifting / Handling: This unit is heavy and care should be taken to use appropriate lifting devices sufficiently rated for this load. Units should only be lifted from their bottom surfaces. Doors, handles and knobs are not adequate for lifting or stabilization. The unit must be completely restrained from tipping during lifting or transport. All moving parts, such as shelves and trays should be removed and doors need to be positively locked in the closed position during transfer to prevent shifting and damage. Leveling Feet: The oven comes with 4 leveling feet for installation. Important: Remove the oven from the pallet prior to operation. Install the feet by turning in the clockwise direction. Cleaning: The oven interior was cleaned at the factory, but not sterilized. Remove shelves and shelf slides, if installed, and clean with a disinfectant that is appropriate for your application. WARNING: Never clean the unit with alcohol or flammable cleaners with the unit connected to the electrical supply. Always disconnect the unit from the electrical service when cleaning and assure all volatile or flammable cleaners are evaporated and dry before reattaching the unit to the power supply. 10
