THE REQUIREMENTS In hospitals, washrooms are often accessible from two rooms. It is therefore, important to ensure that the door from one room cannot be opened as long as the patient from the other room is occupying the washroom. When the door is closed, the door on the opposite side must also be locked automatically. effeff offers a special system for controlling both doors simultaneously.
Planning hints:: The fail-unlocked strikes are mounted above the usual fittings in the door frame. The mating part is mounted in the door leaf opposite the door strike. The bolt switch contact is mounted in the frame opposite the lock bolt. THE SOLUTION Functional description The basic state of the two doors that are opposite to one another and that lead to the joint washroom is closed but not locked. This means that they can be opened at all times. As soon as a user locks the room with the WC locking knob on the inside, the lock bolt engages and the door is mechanically locked. Simultaneously the bolt switch contact installed opposite the lock bolt is activated. The door strike of the door on the opposite side is activated via this bolt switch contact and locks this door. The actual locking process is indicated in the other room by the control lamp above the door. When the user leaves the room again, he disengages lock bolt via the locking knob. The door is then mechanically unlocked and the opposite door simultaneously released via the bolt switch contact. The washroom can now be freely accessed from both rooms. In case of accidents, panic etc., doors locked via the lock bolt can be mechanically opened with an emergency key. The opposite door is then simultaneously unlocked and can be opened. The electrical locking mechanism can also be released via an additional interrupter pushbutton. In case of a current failure or release using the interrupter pushbutton, the electrically locked door is automatically released. Access stop:: In some cases it is advisable to prevent passing through the washroom from one room to another adjoining room so that an unauthorized person cannot enter the room occupied by another person. A simple solution that fulfils all requirements is to insert or screw attach an additional bolt lock with a 20 mm extendable bolt in the door leaf. The lock can be operated from the room side with a Knauf semi-cylinder or a locking knob thus preventing access to this room. Note: Adjoining rooms with several occupants. A person can be locked in. This function should only be used if the adjoining rooms have only one occupant. Equipment: The access doors are equipped with: Lock, springbolt and bolt (washroom door lock) Door strike furniture: Fail-unlocked strike with mating part, built into the opposite lock Control lamp
