WKE Spelsberg. The name in maintaining electrical integrity.

Reference object: Central train station, Berlin Modern architecture places strictly demand the reliability of electrical systems. That is especially true in case of fire. Spelsberg's products for maintaining electrical function play a significant role in this regard by ensuring that important safety systems remain available during a fire. Cable junction boxes, connection boxes and small distributors from Spelsberg are an integral part of the safety concept of buildings around the globe. They protect the sensitive electronics against fire, heat, smoke and moisture. Tested, proven, reliable. Spelsberg. Maintaining electrical integrity redefined. 2

A hospital hallway on the tenth floor. A railway platform 20 metres underground. When planning buildings that are frequented every day by thousands of people, a well-thought out fire-protection concept is an absolute must. Maintaining the current flow for technical equipment, escape routes and extinguishing systems is an important element of this. The longer these systems continue working during a fire, the greater the chance of protecting lives and valuables. Solutions from Spelsberg for maintaining electrical integrity set standards in this respect. Quality for professionals, tested in line with national and international standards. Lives. Valuables. Protection. 3

Counterfeit goods are becoming an increasing problem in the electrical industry. Imitators are flooding the market with products that appear confusingly similar to the original brands, with fatal consequences in terms of fire protection. Only a high-quality electrical product can guarantee a defined period in which the electricity flow can be sustained valuable minutes which can prove essential for rescuing fleeing people. Higher material quality, better combustion behaviour and comprehensively tested features ensure this extra time. As a brand manufacturer, Spelsberg offers the safety of significant investments in research and technology, and strict national and international test procedures. And the reputation of a proven brand name. 4 Safety from a strong brand.

Maintained function of the electrical systems is assured if no short-circuit occurs during a fire and if the current flow is not interrupted in important safety systems. This means the power supply to the escape and rescue routes is maintained in the event of external exposure to fire. Maintaining electrical function is crucial at all locations where large numbers of people tend to circulate, such as schools, hospitals, government agencies, industrial plants or shopping centres. Since the risk of fire can never be excluded fully in spite of the most stringent safety precautions, the requirements in terms of material and installation can never be high enough. The Spelsberg portfolio offers planners, operators and installers optimum quality when it comes to the vital issue of maintaining functionality. Maintaining electrical integrity. A life-saving concept. 5

Fire safety regulations for electrical installations are strictly prescribed in the areas of construction and electrical technology so as to ensure that nobody is insured as a result of fire and smoke. The critical factor is maintaining the function of electrical cable installations in accordance with DIN 4102 Part 12. This standard stipulates that only complete cable installations including all components, such as ducting system, cables and dowels, can be inspected and approved for function maintenance. Spelsberg is the common element here. All fire protection products offer proven function maintenance in the E30 to E90 classes to meet the most stringent requirements for residential and office construction to major projects for industry and transport. 6 Clear standard: DIN 4102 Part 12

How long electrical integrity can be maintained is specified in minutes by the E30 to E90 classes. When a fire breaks out, the first 30 minutes are critical for evacuating a building. For the fire brigade, maintained function of 90 minutes is essential for fighting the fire. E30: Assures maintained electrical function for at least 30 minutes E90: Assures maintained electrical function for at least 90 minutes Fire alarm systems Acoustic systems Emergency lighting Lifts with evacuation circuit Pressure-boosting systems for supply of water for firefighting Smoke and heat exhaust ventilators Firefighting lifts Emergency power supply Valuable minutes: E30 to E90 7

Spelsberg supports users with in-depth specialist knowledge and comprehensive test certificates. The products from the fire-protection portfolio are monitored electrically by the VDE and from a fire protection perspective by the materials testing institutes. In addition, they fulfill electrical tests in accordance with national and international standards. In conjunction with accordingly approved cables and ducting systems, they offer maintained electrical function in the E30 to E90 classes in accordance with DIN 4102 Part 12. Documented proof of usability issued by the MPA and VDE is made available by Spelsberg in the same way as the legally stipulated declaration of compliance that the cable installation has been implemented in accordance with regulations. All certificates are available on the Internet for downloading. Spelsberg offers a fire protection hotline for answering questions about preventive fire protection. A comprehensive service that focuses on solutions. 8 Comprehensive protection. With safetyness.

Safe, safer, Spelsberg: The VDE and UL certified test centre in the Schalksmühle plant has excellently equipped laboratories for a variety of test procedures. During protection tests, the test team tests products for the effects of water, dust, heat, cold, impact or high voltage. Spelsberg uses the fire test device unit as per UL 94 to perform all five flammability tests as well as Bunsen burner tests according to international standards. With the globally recognised UL test, the product features have to correspond to the strict requirements of the US testing organisation Underwriters Laboratories. The quality seal shows that Spelsberg fulfils the increasing demand for UL-certified enclosures for customers from the United States, Canada and Europe. Proven quality for professionals. Worldwide. 9

KE 204 RK WKE 302 RK WKE 303 RK WKE 304 RK WKE 402 RK WKE 403 RK WKE 404 RK Whether for residential construction, industrial complexes or tunnel installations: The WKE product series from Spelsberg proves its class in everyday use. For example, the proven WKE 2 to WKE 5 series, the robust WKE 200 to 400 enclosure series or the WKE 54 fireproof junction boxes offer comprehensive solutions for electrical installation systems. Also extremely resilient are the Spelsberg WKE AK small-scale distributors, a new generation of junction boxes. The WKE portfolio for maintaining electrical function from Spelsberg is an all-round winner thanks to high-quality materials and ease of installation. Added to this is the full range of accessories for practically every use. Brand products incorporating the knowledge of an experienced high-quality company. 11

Reference object: Allianz Arena, Munich The Allianz Arena in Munich can accommodate almost 70,000 people. Energy and data distribution is handled in Europe's most modern stadium by some four million metres of cable. All switchgear cabinets together add up to a length of some 750 metres. The Allianz Arena is also outstanding when it comes to safety: While it was still under construction, it was awarded the "Deutscher Brandschutzpreis" (German Fire Protection Award) for its fire protection plan. The WKE 2 to WKE 5 fireproof junction boxes from Spelsberg are an integral part of this exemplary project. They offer maintained function in the E30 to E90 classes. The halogen-free duroplastic housing poses no risk of short-circuits. And yet another plus for installers: Flexible cable entries let you decide on-site which membrane must be opened. A high-performance complete portfolio for practically every application. 12 Excellent protection: WKE 2 to WKE 5

The 3,300-metre-long Gubrist tunnel is part of Zurich's north bypass, one of the busiest stretches of motorway in Switzerland. The stringent safety requirements for electrical installation systems are a particular challenge here. Were an accident to result in fire, vital equipment such as emergency lighting, ventilation systems and rescue equipment would have to remain available. This is assured by the WKE 54 fireproof junction box from Spelsberg with its especially high protection rating of IP 67. It was developed especially for tunnels and is made of robust duroplastic and protected against mechanical impact and moisture. The WKE 54 is also an important element of safety plans for railway tunnels. Their pressure and suction resistance has been confirmed by the "Tunnel safety lighting for railway tunnels" test. Safety under the most unfavourable conditions: WKE 54 13

Reference object: Kanzlerbahn, Berlin The Berlin underground line 55 runs on the section between the Brandenburg Gate and the central train station. Around the clock, 365 days a year. The Berlin Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) (Berlin transport companies) place stringent demands on the electrical technology in the tunnel installations. It must be able to ensure the functionality of vital equipment even in the event of a fire. In such a demanding environment, Spelsberg WKE junction boxes with integrated fuses protect the electrical wiring systems. They maintain operation of the lighting and evacuation equipment for at least 30 minutes in the event of fire. The WKE 300 BVG and WKE 400 BVG junction boxes with protection class II and protection rating IP 66 developed specially for the Berlin Verkehrsbetriebe are made from an especially robust, halogen-free and self-extinguishing duroplastic. A safe and reliable solution wherever fire protection, high impact resistance and reliable dust- and waterproofing are required. Especially sturdy: WKE 200 to 400 14

The oil-fired oven at the materials testing institute in Dresden reaches temperatures of more than 980 degrees Celsius. Flames strike against the WKE AK small-scale distributor from Spelsberg. For the first time, the entire installation is being tested under load in accordance with the electrical engineering and construction regulations, not only the enclosures, cables and switchgear. The focal point of these tests is the fire and moisture resistance of the distributors. A switching operation is performed after more than 80 minutes of extreme testing. The result: Despite fire and condensation, the electrical installation withstands switching the electricity off and then on again without sustaining any damage and with full functionality. By passing this endurance test in 2010, the Spelsberg WKE AK small-scale distributors successfully united the specialised fields of fire protection, building law and electrical technology. The two-layered housing reinforced with fireproof panels reliably protects the installed electrical components inside against fire from outside and inside, so the distributor satisfies the strict requirements for service in escape and rescue routes. The extremely rugged WKE AK series of junction boxes has been tested and approved according to DIN EN 60439-1, making Spelsberg the first company to receive a VDE certificate for a fireproof, freely configurable small distributor. Dual protection: WKE AK distribution boards 15
