SCHONENBERG STAFF Meet Nigel Fombe - Maintenance Supervisor I m from Zimbabwe, twenty-nine years old and still single. I m the youngest member of my family of six, who are currently based in the United Kingdom. Three years ago, I relocated from Zimbabwe to South Africa and now I m happy to live in Somerset West working as a maintenance supervisor on the Schonenberg Estate. I love my job! When it comes to my character, I think I m a hard-working, respectful and honest young man. In my free time, I like going to church and my favourite sport is soccer. I also love food! My favorite meal is chicken with rice served with a special dried fruit recipe and coleslaw salad. 5
CONSTITUTION EXTRACT Our Constitution says: No activities on communal areas if they cause nuisance Activities on communal areas: 16. No hobbies or other activities may be conducted on the communal areas if they cause nuisance to other members and/or occupiers. The Trustee Committee shall be the final adjudicator resolving complaints of this nature. Common property and/or private open spaces: 17.2 Games are permitted on areas designated by the developer and the trustees from time to time. 17.6 The operating hours of such areas are from 07:00 to 20:30. Any usage after 21:00 to 06:00 shall be regarded as a violation of the conduct rules, save for the bona fide use of the jogging path for jogging and walking. 6

During the past few weeks, the landscaping upgrades planned for the street beds in Heemraden Street and Bracknell Close were completed. Syzygium guineense (water pear trees) combined with the white flowering Dietes grandiflora and yellow flowering Euryops were planted in both streets in order to repeat the design used for the landscaping upgrade in Millstream Street last year. This design has proven to be successful in Millstream and provides a harmoniously colourful touch to our Estate. Environmental Updates Landscaping Upgrades Landscaping upgrades for three park areas are now the focus of attention: Milagro Park, Finsbury Park and Welmoed Park. In all three parks, the areas covered with grass have been reduced and replaced with interestingly-shaped beds planted with succulents and other water-wise species. The intention is to reduce the amount of water needed to irrigate the parks; it is a well-known fact that grass requires a lot of water to keep healthy and looking good. The edges of Milagro Park that border on the two roads have been planted with 76 Plumbago shrubs and seven trees. Not only will the blue and white Plumbago develop into a flowering hedge, it will also prevent people from parking their cars on the grass. This has been an ongoing problem in Milagro Park and a serious one at that, because the cars caused damage to the irrigation pop-ups installed along the park boundaries. In the coming weeks, we are looking forward to seeing more street beds upgraded according to the plan drawn up at the beginning of this season. 8

The cutting of selected Chinese Poplar trees on Vaillant Boulevard between the circle at Voorburg Avenue and Sluysken Street began on June 8th. The contracted arborist and his team have worked efficiently and effectively, and kept to schedule. The 47 trees were felled within 2 days. The branches were chipped and the wood chips are now in our maintenance yard to be used for pathways and mulching during the landscaping upgrades and maintenance. POPLAR TREE PROJECT Phase 1 A team meeting takes place every morning to discuss the plan of work for the day, review the previous day s work, and tackle any problems or complaints that may have cropped up. Currently, the stumps and the spreading roots of the felled trees are being chopped down to below the soil surface. Two tree stumps at the corner of Sluysken Street were ground mechanically. The replacement trees, 100 kg bagged Syzygium guineense (water pear trees), which were personally selected by the arborist, are being held for the project at the wholesale nursery. Planting of the replacement trees is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 20th. The project team will determine the co-ordinates for the most suitable planting location for each replacement tree. Phase 1 of the Poplar tree project is on schedule and it is expected that it will be completed by the end of June. 12

SECURITY Access Control Domestic Workers/ Gardeners The reason why a gardener or domestic worker may appear at your house, without Security phoning you - the resident -, is because the worker is already registered at another Erf. This means he/ she enters the Estate with his / her biometric fingerprint. Please make sure your gardener / domestic worker is registered under your Erf number EVEN if they are registered at another Erf on the Estate. If he/ she is not registered Security will phone the residence to authorise access to the worker. Please make sure that your domestic worker / gardener scans both in and out when they enter and exit the Estate even if they are driven by you. 14
BE ENVIRO-FRIENDLY No waste in the Seep The Seep the Estate s conservation area - is audited on a regular basis and no foreign matter is allowed in this eco-sensitive area. Please do not throw any rocks/garden rubble or building material/grids in the Seep. If we find said material outside your Erf in the Seep, we shall send you a notice to remove the waste in the following seven days. If not removed, we shall remove it and invoice you accordingly.
