COMPANY PORTRAIT B.E.G. Brück Electronic GmbH a company with a tradition B.E.G. is a family company founded in 1975 with its headquarters in Lindlar (near cologne). The company stands for quality and innovation with customer satisfaction at its heart. The foundation stone of the products within the comprehensive range was the development and production of emergency lights. Shortly thereafter the production of emergency lighting systems followed. B.E.G. was one of the first companies in Germany to commence the production of motion detectors and automatic lights in 1986. Since then, B.E.G. has produced several generations of motion detectors mainly for outdoor use on buildings that help increase security. Other product families, e.g. VIDEOLUX, LUXOMAT and ECOLIGHT were developed to broaden the range. The growth in automated systems for buildings and the resulting increase in the demand for intelligent control led to an expansion in our range of presence detection. The cost reduction through energy saving and the protection of the environment plus the additional comfort factor are strong arguments for the use of presence detectors. On 1 June 2006, B.E.G. resumed responsibility for the handling of the sales of its entire production range of motion detectors, automatic lamps, energy-saving spotlights, emergency lamps and dimming switches from the previous sales partner with the aim of re-establishing close ties with its customers. The new purpose-built distribution and logistics center with an attached production and development unit in Lindlar was commissioned in 2007. The latest product innovation from Lindlar is B.E.G. SMARTHOME. The radio-based bidirectional system can be retro-fitted to buildings and its modular system means that it can be expanded over time. B.E.G. now has an excellent reputation all over Germany and internationally with offices and representatives in many countries around the world. 3

PRESS RELEASE P1 Bright spotlight low power B.E.G. has further developed its successful white light LED spotlight range to make a significant step forward in energy efficiency. The FL2N-LED is equipped with 60 powerful LEDs and requires just 26 watts, while the FL3N-LED contains 30 powerful LEDs with a power consumption of 15 watts. The technology for these was specially developed by B.E.G. to guarantee optimal lighting of the illuminated area. Instead of the usual point-like illumination, these B.E.G. LED spotlights produce a uniform cone of light. Both new spotlights are available with or without motion detector. The motion detector on the FL2N-LED-230 covers a detection area of 230 over 20 x 16 m (movement across the detector) or 6 m (movement towards the detector). The creep zone has a detection area of 4 m. This spotlight therefore enables effective monitoring of large areas. The FL3N-LED-130 covers 130 with a detection area of 10 m (movement across the detector) or 5 m (movement towards the detector) and so is suitable for monitoring smaller areas. FL2N-LED-230 Installation of the spotlight, as with all spotlights in the range, is as simple as possible: once the wall socket is installed and wired up, the spotlight body can be clipped in by hand, requiring no tools. After installation, the head can be adjusted in practically any direction. This is made possible by the clever construction of the spotlight, with three-axis adjustment. FL3N-LED 4

PRESS RELEASE P2 Light without fail even in case of emergency Our latest innovation to the market in the field of electrical engineering: our two-phase detector In some buildings the power supply is ensured by means of two separate circuits, thereby preventing power failure in case of a malfunction with one supply. This is of special importance regarding illumination of escape routes. For these facilities, B.E.G. has developed a new detector: the two-phase detector PD4-M-2C-DS-FC is a complete innovation to the market of sensor control. The new detector combines the conventional advantages of a motion detector with the security of several power circuits. It can be connected to two separate circuits of the alternating current network. Thereby, the illumination system can be subdivided into two separate groups. All loads controlled by the two-phase detector are distributed over these two groups. During times of normal power supply, the system functions like an ordinary presence detector and controls all connected loads. In this case, the detector gets its operating voltage from both phases. In case one supply fails, the PD4-M-2C-DS-FC still controls the loads of the other supply thereby ensuring an emergency supply of the remaining group and maintaining some illumination. If, for example, the lights in a corridor are connected in turn to the circuits, in case of a failure of one circuit 50 % of the lights remain in function. Therefore, the corridor will still be illuminated despite the failure of one circuit. Manual switching of the PD4-M-2C-DS-FC by a single pushbutton is also possible due to the pushbutton being electrically isolated. Furthermore, the detector can be remote controlled. The two-phase detector PD4-M-2C-DS-FC has one common optical system for both outputs. With a detection range of 24 m and a mounting height of 2.5 m the detector covers a broad area. This area can be further enlarged by means of a second PD4-M-2C-DS-FC functioning as slave. Soon the detector will also be available with three phases enabling the operation in facilities having three power circuits. 5

PRESS RELEASE P3 New: Temperature measurement and more The multi-sensor for BUS-systems B.E.G. s new PD2N-LTMS-FC reliably detects the three most important values of a room: the room temperature, the light level on the ceiling and transmits the measured values to two 0-10 V interfaces. Thirdly, the sensor detects movement and reports it via a switch contact. This information then can be used for closed (proprietary) BUS-systems (e.g. LON or SPS) and DALI-systems. For this purpose, the system has to be suitable for the 0-10 V-output control of the PD2N-LTMS-FC. The sensor is connected to a 16-48 V supply. In all three fields of measurement the multi-sensor covers a broad range: temperature can be detected from 0 to 50 C, enabling a versatile use of the sensor. Motion is detected in a range of 360 by 10 m (tangentially to the sensor) or 6 m (frontal towards the sensor) with a mounting height up to 2.5 m. The integrated brightness sensor measures a range of 0 to 1,000 Lux with the output values being settable directly at the device. In addition to its technical advantages the PD2N-LTMS-DE is designed carefully: Having a diameter of only 83 mm and a visible height of 20 mm the multi-sensor adapts to any room design. 6

PRESS RELEASE P4 More than a time switch: Our all-around weather station for KNX-systems More and more options are becoming available in intelligent building automation, with the desire of research and development to improve energy efficiency and comfort. Automatic controls that control and switch depending on presence/absence of the occupants or of the environmental values are becoming more and more popular. B.E.G. s all-around weather station KNX WTS-GPS now offers the possibility to use all important environmental values of the building for the KNX system. KNX WTS-GPS measures wind speed, temperature and brightness, it records rainfall and makes use of a GPS signal to determine time and location. The wind speed is measured electronically, which now makes the conventional wind wheel, which is extremely liable to wear, obsolete. In order to control the sun shielding around the building in a reasonable way, the system has to know the position of the sun. The KNX WTS-GPS achieves an optimum adjustment by combining different values: The positioning (cardinal direction) of the weather station is entered into the system by the integrator using the ETS software. The time and position coordinates are received via GPS, which allows the exact position of the sun to be calculated. Furthermore, all clocks in the KNX system can be set by means of this GPS signal. With brightness, temperature and precipitation, the KNX WTS-GPS offers a complete weather analysis. All values can be used to control threshold-depending switching outputs. Thus, heating, blinds, lighting and many other components can be automatically adapted to external conditions in a perfect way. All values can be used as such, for example to re-wind awnings in case of rainfall. It is also possible to combine several thresholds, for example with low temperature and rain the heating can be activated and the awning re-wound. Or in case of high temperature and bright sunshine the sun shielding is wound out automatically and the lights are dimmed. In combination with an actuator for shutters, the shutters can be rolled up and down and also the blades can be tilted to adjust to weather conditions. The sensor, evaluation electronics and bus connection of the KNX WTS-GPS are placed in a compact housing. The combination of recent technology and small dimension makes the KNX WST-GPS a useful component for broadening the KNX system. The values measured by the weather station enable a multitude of actions. The KNX WST-GPS, being adjustable individually in many ways, offers an intelligent solution to improve comfort and energy saving. 7

PRESS RELEASE P5 B.E.G. SMARTHOME Our complete solution for intelligent building automation Energy efficiency, security and comfort: B.E.G. s new product line B.E.G. SMARTHOME allows for an intelligent linking of various building functions. Not only lights and temperature can be controlled, but also smoke detectors. The power consumption can be measured. B.E.G. SMARTHOME is a radio and powerline based system. It can be used for new buildings, but it is also suitable for being retrofitted. The B.E.G. SMARTHOME system is easy to mount due to not requiring new wires. The devices can be used directly and without additional software. Powerline devices are detected automatically and can be added to the wireless system via a display control at the gateway. B.E.G. SMARTHOME offers an optimum flexibility for all application purposes. The modular system can be extended any time by other components of the B.E.G. SMARTHOME family. For being introduced to the market, we offer seven different starter kits. MyControl All functions of the B.E.G. SMARTHOME system can be controlled by means of the mobile monitor and control device MyControl. The handy device is connected wireless to the entire system. The well-arranged 3.5 touchscreen allows to control devices and to display information, such as power consumption or state of a smoke detector. Furthermore, it offers an integrated weekly time switch. To each actuator, four switching times can be assigned in a weekly or daily program via the icon-based desktop. MyControl is a wireless, small and lightweight device which can be used within the whole building. The bidirectional communication of the devices enables the user to have an immediate response to his actions. The menu is based on symbols being easy to understand and divided into four sections. 8

PRESS RELEASE P5 Smoke detectors To control and monitor all smoke detectors of a system centrally is one of the many functions offered by B.E.G. SMARTHOME. Using MyControl, the user is enabled to check at any time if the smoke detectors are functioning and he can start a test alarm by just one single click. Integrating the smoke detectors in the network is very easy: the wireless smoke detectors SD2-RF are pre-programmed. One single key stroke is enough to assign the smoke detector to MyControl. After being activated, MyControl periodically checks the current state of all assigned smoke detectors. Thereby, it is easy to become aware of possible difficulties like empty batteries. Individual icons enable a simple assignment and retrieval of the assigned devices. This allows for a survey of all devices even in larger buildings being more complex. In case of fire, all smoke detectors as well as MyControl set off an alarm, and the place of fire is displayed on MyControl by means of the respective icon and an ID number. Furthermore, the corresponding emergency telephone numbers are shown enabling the user to act fast. Switching MyControl s menu item Switching enables the control of electric loads wireless or via powerline. B.E.G. offers wireless actuators for many purposes: actuators for plug sockets, especially for switching mobile luminaires, fans and heaters, flush-mounted actuators for being installed in the switch box or junction box, and apparent actuators for being installed inside or outside of the building. A repeater can be used to enlarge distances. Sometimes a wireless connection is not possible, especially for larger distances (for example the illumination of parking sites or gardens) or in the event of ferroconcrete or rooms situated in the basement. B.E.G.. s powerline actuators offer a solution to these problems: They control electrical loads via the already existing power lines and are connected to My- Control by means of a gateway radio/powerline. This gateway transforms the signals from radio to powerline or from powerline to radio. MyControl enables the user to switch loads individually or as groups. The use of a motion detector being connected to the loads offers even more comfort for the user. For example, light is only switched on in case of a person being present. This presence-based control of light is an important factor for the energy efficiency of the building. Using MyControl, one motion detector can be assigned to a group of loads. 9

PRESS RELEASE P5 emetering In times of fast increasing prices for electrical power it is becoming more and more necessary to have a detailed knowledge on the power consumption of different devices and also of the total consumption in a building. With B.E.G. s MyControl in combination with the intelligent plug socket, a precise measuring and control of energy consumption becomes possible. Using the menu item emetering (measuring of power consumption) the power consumption in kwh can be measured for individual devices. The momentary consumption of a selected device is displayed on the monitor as a graph. Another page shows the total consumption of the building. The data are recorded on a micro-sd card and can be transmitted to the PC, enabling a detailed data treatment and evaluation. Besides normal measuring of power consumption, the power consumption of the house can be measured directly at the distributor box and can be transmitted to MyControl. MyControl automatically creates an individual profile of these data showing the average consumption of the building. Differences in the consumption are displayed as a stoplight using the colours red, yellow and green. Nevertheless, data security is a main issue of B.E.G.: the data are only stored with the user, they are neither transmitted to B.E.G. nor stored there. Heating Controlling the temperature of a room depending on presence and time can be an important contribution to save energy in a building. The B.E.G. SMARTHOME radio heater thermostat TRV2-ZW in combination with wireless window contacts and the presence detector PD3N-ZW allows for a reduction of the power consumption of up to 30 %. The wireless heater thermostat TRV2 is powered by batteries and can be easily mounted to the heater by simple exchange with the already existing thermostat. In case of somebody being present in the room, the presence detector activates the comfort mode of the thermostat. After the person having left the room, the heater thermostats switch to the energy saving mode. The temperatures for the comfort and the energy saving modes are pre-set at the thermostat. Additionally, heating times can be fixed in order to prevent the room from cooling down in case of longer absence of a person. But there is even more to the heater control: the holiday mode offers an optimum temperature in times of longer absence and the integrated anti-freeze mode prevents the heater from freezing. In combination with the window contact, the wireless thermostat automatically drops the temperature in case the window is open. This kind of temperature control enables maximum comfort in combination with high energy efficiency. Only a few keystrokes at the respective device are enough for being controlled via MyControl. Afterwards, the thermostats can be divided into groups for switching in parallel, e.g. one group for one room. Up to eight independent groups can be installed. 10
