Custodial Simulation - Advanced DESCRIPTION : The student will place a CAUTION WET FLOOR correctly, damp mop a section of a restroom floor, vacuum a section of carpet, and clean a portion of a mirror without streaking, smudges or fingerprints. THE STUDENT SHOULD WORK UNASSISTED. Additional information regarding simulation execution and scoring attached. 1 2 Caution Wet Floor Sign Placed Appropriately Mop Wrung Out Correctly Scoring 5 -Sign placed at or near restroom doorway or in front of stall before mopping 4 - Sign placed in restroom but at some distance from stall or sign placed correctly after mopping 3 - Sign brought into stall while mopping but placed outside when done 2 - Sign brought into stall and left there after finishing mopping 1 - Asked judge where to place sign 0 -Did not place sign 5 - Mop removed from water, placed in wringer and wringer properly operated leaving mop damp but not dripping 4 - Mop removed from water, placed in wringer and wringer operated but mop retains enough water to drip when removed from wringer 3 -Mop removed from water, placed in wringer but wringer not properly operated leaving substantial water in mop 2 - Mop removed from water, placed in wringer basket but not wrung out. 1 - Mop removed from water, wrung out and then placed back in water before mopping. 0 -Mop not wrung out 3 Mopping Technique 5 - Starts mopping at baseboard, mops under or around toilet then mops in a side to side motion backing out of stall while mopping 4 - Starts mopping at baseboard, but then mops in a more random manner (moving forward and backwards) but not missing any areas of floor. 3 -Doesn't start mopping from baseboards but in a random manner completes mopping only missing small areas of floor. 2 - Stands in stall, mopping around him or herself with the result of having to walk across mopped area to exit stall. 1 -Mops in random manner either from inside or outside of stall missing much of floor. 0 - Fails to demonstrate mopping.

Turns off vacuum cleaner and puts in upright position when done. 4 -Removes all oatmeal from the designated area but makes unnecessary movement of vacuum across the area i.e. continues to vacuum after all oatmeal is removed. Turns off vacuum and puts in upright position when done. 3 - Quickly and efficiently removes all but four to six oatmeal flakes from designated area. Turns off vacuum and puts in upright position when done. 2 - Leaves seven to ten oatmeal flakes from designated area. Turns off vacuum and put in upright position when done. 1 -Leaves more than ten oatmeal flakes in designated area and/or fails to turn off vacuum and put in upright position. 0 - Fails to demonstrate vacuuming.

No window cleaner will remain on mirror and it will be streak, smear and fingerprint free when the students states he or she is done.

6 Vacuumed Up All Oatmeal A 4ft x 6ft area of carpet or carpet runner of similar size shall have about ¼ cup of quick cooking oatmeal distributed in an even manner. An upright commercial model vacuum cleaner will be provided. Vacuum cleaner will be plugged in. If necessary judge may demonstrate power switch and release mechanism to student. Proper vacuuming technique is required to assure complete removal of simulated dirt (oatmeal) from the designated area. Student will operate vacuum by moving backward and forward across the designated area in a manner so that all oatmeal is removed in a timely manner. Pattern of vacuuming may be sweeps in the same direction, sweeps in a perpendicular manner or in a random manner. Student will turn off vacuum cleaner, return to upright position when finished.
