Marine Fire Pre-Engineered Fire Suppression 727 Series Installation & Maintenance Manual Catef srl - Marine Fire Via Grecale 33 55049 Viareggio (LU) Italy Tel: +39 0584 390609 Fax: +39 0584 397752 E-mail: Date: 2011 / M200020-727 Series Manual - Rev. 00 Rev 00

FOR ASSISTANCE: +39 0584 390609 INTRODUCTION: MARINE FIRE 727 series pre-engineered fire suppression systems are designed for installation in Engine Rooms and other not normally occupied areas on board Pleasure Craft (ISO 9094/1 and ISO 9094/2 standard for Recreational Craft) up to 24mt waterline length. These systems have undergone rigorous testing in a recognised laboratory and are certified by R.I.N.A. to protect against A and B class fires in machinery spaces up to 20m3 Net volume and not exceeding 70m3 gross compartment volume. MARINE FIRE 727 series systems are easy to install (no pipework required) and simple to maintain. 727 series systems contain Clean Agent FM-200 (HFC-227) and are designed to extinguish fire in less than 10 seconds from discharge. FM-200 is non-toxic leaves no residue thereby reducing clean up costs and downtime after a fire has occurred. This manual is intended to give you basic information and instructions regarding the installation, use and maintenance of your 727 series systems. More detailed information can be requested by contacting or Tel +39 0584 390609. 727 Series Fire Extinguishing systems use Clean Agent HFe-227 extinguishing agent, more commonly know as FM-200. FM-200 is a colourless, odourless, liquified compressed gas. It is stored as a liquid but discharges in the form of a gaseous vapour. FM-200 extinguishes fire by cooling the environment very rapidly. At the design concentration, FM-200 gas is non-toxic. Marine Fire 727 series systems are designed and approved for use in not normally occupied areas by RINA (e.g. engine rooms), for net volumes up to 700 cubic feet or 19,80 m3, under the ISO 9094 / 1 and ISO 9094 /2 standards. ATTENTION: MARINE FIRE 727 SERIES Fire Suppression Systems can be AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATED via a heat sensitive bulb in the cylinder head. The system will activate at 68 C. Marine Fire 727 Fire Suppression systems are suitable for installation in: Machinery spaces Engine Compartments Electrical and electronic hazard areas Storage Rooms / lockers (flammable liquids and gases) - Page 2 -

Catef srl - Marine Fire INSTALLATION: WHICH MODEL? Choose the model of 727 series systems according to the NET volume of the compartment to be protected. It is important to get this calculation correct to ensure the correct operation of your 727 Series fire suppression system. MODEL PROTECTS VOLUME CUBIC FEET 727-25 25 727-50 50 727-75 75 727-100 100 727-125 125 727-150 150 727-200 200 727-250 250 727-300 300 727-350 350 727-400 400 727-450 450 727-500 500 PROTECTS VOLUME CUBIC METRES 0.7 1.4 2.1 2.8 3.5 4.2 5.7 7.1 8.5 9.9 11.3 12.7 14.2 727-550 550 15.6 727-600 600 17.0 727-650 650 18.4 727-700 700 19.8 IMPORTANT: if you require assistance in calculating the compartment volume, please contact the sales office. WHAT COMES IN THE BOX? Before you start installation, check that all the items are present : 1. 727 series cylinder, including valve, pressure gauge and nameplate. 2. The name plate is a white label on the side of the cylinder which provides information that is specific to each container : a. Serial Number b. Weight information c. Installation, Operation & safety information. 3. A support bracket. - Page 3 -

FOR ASSISTANCE: +39 0584 390609 How to install the system MARINE FIRE 727 series systems must be installed INSIDE the protected compartment, and must be mounted in a secure location such as a structural column, bulkhead or deck. If moisture is present on the deck, elevate the system container a minimum of 2 (5 cm) off the deck. Never install a fire suppression system on the under side of a hatch cover or access door which are susceptible to damage or being thrown clear if an explosion occurs. The extinguisher would not work if the hatch or access door is left open. 727 Series systems are designed to activate manual, automatically at 68 C or both activation systems. For automatic or automatic/manual activations DO NOT mount the system where the thermal valve will be in the viciinity of the engine exhaust system or turbocharger, where radiated heat may cause the system to discharge. Mounting distances from heat producing appliances should be a minimum of 18 (50cm). NO pipework is required. To enhance response time and increase the distribution capabilty, mount the cylinder with the valve ABOVE THE CENTRELINE of the compartment. Mount the cylinder as high as possible with the centre of the discharge orifice facing the opposite bulkhead. The area immediately surrounding the discharge head should be free of obstacles to ensure that the gas can exit unimpeded. - Page 4 -

Catef srl - Marine Fire Maintenance Programme A regular maintenance programme must be established to ensure the continuous safe operation of the Marine Fire 727 Series system. The manufacturer recommends that a maintenance log be maintained for ready reference with the following information: Inspection Interval Inspection Prodedure Performed Maintenance Performed as a result of an Inspection Name of Inspector performing the task. Inspection intervals can vary according to class or flag rules, but a visual inspection is recommended on a weekly basis to include: 1. Check that the fire suppression system is secure in its bracket 2. Check support brackets, secure loose fittings, replace any corroded or damaged parts. 3. Check all components for physical damage, deterioration or corrosion. If significant damage or corrosion is present, remove the system from service and contact your nearest MARINE FIRE authorised distributor. 4. Check the pressure gauge on each cylinder. The nominal pressure should be 240PSI at 70 F (16bar @ 21 C). However t he pressure will vary with temperature. In the range of 50 F to 80 F (10 C - 27 C) the difference is approximately 2 psig (15 kpa) per degree. If the pressure loss indicated exceeds 10 per cent of the nominal pressure, check the container for leaks and repair as necessary. 5. If in doubt, contact the manufacturer TEL +39 0584 390609 e-mail, or an authorised distributor. - Page 5 -

FOR ASSISTANCE: +39 0584 390609 EVERY SIX MONTHS: 1. Check all system components are free from physical damage, deterioration or corrosion.. If significant damage or corrosion is present, remove the system from service and contact your nearest MARINE FIRE authorised distributor. 2. Inspect all labels. All fire suppression labels must be readable. If labels are missing or damaged, the system from service and contact your nearest MARINE FIRE authorised distributor. 3. Verify the weight of the agent in each container marche the agent weight on the label. Remove the system from the bracket using estreme caution. With a certified scale, weigh the container. If the measured weight indicates a shortage exceeding 5 per cent of the require agent weight, the container must be removed from service for repair and/or recharge. 4. Check the pressure gauge on each cylinder. The nominal pressure should be 240PSI at 70 F (16bar @ 21 C). However t he pressure will vary with temperature. In the range of 50 F to 80 F (10 C 27 C) the difference is approximately 2 psig (15 kpa) per degree. If the pressure loss indicated exceeds 10 per cent of the nominal pressure, check the container for leaks and repair as necessary. 5. Marine Fire 727 Series containers should not be recharged without a retest if more than five years have elapsed sinced the last test. The retest consists of a complete external and internal visual inspection. Cylinders continuously in service without discharging shall receive a complete external (visual) test every five years. The cylinder does not need to be emptied for this inspection. AFTER SYSTEM DISCHARGE: 1. Before accessing the area after a fire, ventilate the compartment thoroughly to ensure smoke and fumes have cleared before re-entry. 2. The 727 Series Marine Fire system should be removed and sent to the factory, or to an authorised service centre for refurbishing, and refilling. - Page 6 -
