Brief Project Name Hialeah Gardens Library Branch at Westland Gardens Park Introduction Department of Cultural Affairs through its Program and Miami Dade Public Library System request qualifications from professional artists and/or artist teams to create artworks for the Hialeah Gardens Library Branch, a new library replacing the existing storefront location. The selected artist(s) will design a unique artwork that will provide the library s patrons with an outstanding visual experience and create a unique identity for the space. Detailed Description The new Hialeah Gardens Library at Westland Gardens Park will be located near the Hialeah Gardens Community Center, creating a shared courtyard. The site plan encompasses a 13,500 square foot, singlestory library. It is envisioned that library amenities will include an exterior covered seating/patio area integrated with the building, a café, a community multi-purpose room, a digital media center, and a children s room, as well as flexible seating areas and spaces for a wide range of activities and uses. Process Eligible artists are invited to submit qualifications through an open Call to Artists. Subsequently a convening will take place of the Professional Advisory Committee (PAC); a panel composed of professionals in the field of art, public art, architecture, art education, art history, or architectural history appointed by the (APP) Trust, a 15 member citizen board appointed by the Miami- Dade County Board of County Commissioners. A three-member group will be drawn from the PAC to review all artists qualifications responding to this request to recommend a shortlist for consideration for the APP Trust. Shortlisted artists will receive an honorarium to develop specific proposals and compete for the commission(s). Shortlisted artists will be provided with reference materials and have the opportunity to engage in an Artist Orientation and site visit (if possible) with the client and design teams and APP Staff. Upon the presentations of artist s proposals, a three-member group drawn from PAC will recommend one or more artists for commission by the Trust.
