The Reversible Heat-pump unit in the ReCooler HP is designed at external air temperatures as follows: For cooling from +20 to +40 C For heating from +20 to -15 C with passive defrost system For heating from +20 to -20 C with active defrost system A supply air temperature 14 C in cooling and 25 C in heating is possible depending on air temperature and the supply air/extract and air flow ratio selected. 4 ReCooler HP EQKR Technical Catalogue Above the minimun speed, the compressor is speed controlled so the heating and cooling can be controlled steplessly providing smooth control of the supply air. APPLICATIONS The ReCooler HP can be used in most public, commercial and light industrial applications where a rotary heat exchanger would normally be considered. The eq air handling unit with ReCooler HP provides independent ventilation at the right temperature so the terminal cooling and heating systems can be optimised to reduce both first cost and running costs. In some applications such as factories and sports halls it is possible to use the ReCooler HP to supply all of the heating and cooling without the need for any other system. The ReCooler HP is supplied as part of a complete eq air handling unit. As a minimum, fans, filters and dampers will be needed but the unit can be configured with other functionality to suit the needs of the application. The unit can be installed indoors in a plant room or it can be provided with a roof for installation outdoors. For regions with cold climate the ReCooler HP heatpump has a flexible defrosting system; which can be tailored to suit the application. Patent pending. Technical Catalogue ReCooler HP EQKR 5 energy PerformAnCe The ReCooler HP offers extremely good energy performance. Our Energy consumption calculation system in Acon can estimate the total annual energy consumption of the total unit and can be compared with other AHU system solutions. main features The ReCooler HP is self contained and requires the minimum of work to install it. The ReCooler HP is fully tested in the factory and is supplied charged with refrigerant and ready to run. Sorption rotary heat exchanger The sorption rotary heat exchanger with variable speed drive can offer temperature efficiency over 85 % in accordance with the En308 standard. The variable speed drive means that the rotor can provide energy recovery throughout the year. together with the heat pump the recooler HP offers 100 % + energy recovery! ProdUCt overview All refrigerant equipment is housed within the casing but not in airstream. R410a refrigerant offers high efficiency and compact design. Compressor The compressor and control equipment is housed within the casing of the unit but not in the airstream offering a smart appearance while making service and inspection easy to carry out. The variable speed compressor is a high efficient scroll machine with a permanent magnet motor driven by the integrated frequency inverter. Reversible heat pump function offers cooling and heating in sequence with the energy recovery. This high quality compressor offers low noise, high efficiency and near step less control of the supply air temperature. 6 ReCooler HP EQKR More importantly, perhaps, it also performs exceptionally well at part load so the overall energy consumption over the year is kept to a minimum. See below for details of nominal peak and part load efficiency. The inverter drive also means that we can start the machine at low load avoiding high starting currents. The Power factor is close to 1.0, which means reduced losses in the power supply. The refrigerant used is R410a and naturally, all of the components are designed for use with that refrigerant. R410a consists of HFC-125 and HFC-32. It is low-toxic, non flammable and non corrosive. It has an Ozone depleting potential of zero. The Global Warming Potential (GWP) is 2088. Technical Catalogue Control system The ReCooler HP is equipped with a high quality and professionally designed control panel ensuring safety, reliability and ease of service. The control system has been developed in cooperation with global manufacturers specifically to manage the operation of the electronic valves and compressors to ensure the very best operation and efficiency seen on the market. R410A offers high efficiency and is readily available at low cost. The heat exchangers are conventional DX coils with copper tubes and hydrophilic coated aluminium fins as standard. The drain trays under the heat exchangers are fitted with electric heating cables to prevent ice build up under the coil. ReCooler HP is fully tested in the Fläkt Woods Energy performance laboratory. Technical Catalogue ReCooler HP EQKR 7 The unit is started and stopped through a 0-10v signal or via Modbus. When supplied with an eq unit with integrated controls, communication is through modbus and is set up on delivery. All parameters can be read on the display on the controller. Alarms are passed through to the eq controller. Smart Control ReCooler HP includes a very flexible control that includes, two electronic expansion valves to fully control cooling mode, heating mode and refrigerant charge. It also includes, electronic temperature and pressure sensors maximizes reliability and efficiency. Fläkt Woods provides complete system optimization control for ventilation, cooling and heating. Third Party AHU controls The ReCooler HP is always equipped with its own control system designed to manage the refrigeration system but the ReCooler HP can be delivered in an eq unit with or without controls. When supplied with the Climatix AHU controls, the ReCooler HP is connected directly to the Climatix and installation is quick and easy. If supplied without the Climatix controller then it is necessary to ensure that the third party control system is provided with the right strategy for control of the ReCooler HP Recommended control strategy for use where third party controls are to be installed on the AHU: The ReCooler HP is started in heating or cooling mode with a constant signal of 2.5V for 1 minute followed by a signal between 1V and 10V for 9 minutes. Variable Air Volume function The design of the ReCooler HP is optimised for VAV operation with the variable speed compressor and compressor operation envelope control. This means that when the airflow reduces the compressor will reduce speed if it reaches the edge of the envelope so that alarms and operation stops due to high pressure are avoided. Automatic refrigerant volume control Due to the complex system no sight glasses are fitted to the unit as we have an electronic refrigerant volume monitoring system. Passive defrost system All reversible DX systems need to defrost during cold weather but the ReCooler HP has the advantage that the evaporator is in the exhaust air during heating mode. This means warmer air and less defrosting. The defrosting cycle is activated when the system detects frost on the exhaust coil. The refrigerant circuit is reversed to heat the exhaust coil and melt the ice. The system monitors the melting of the ice and if it does not precede quickly enough the rotor speed is reduced to accelerate the melting. The defrosting process is independent of the airflow and is activated only when absolutely required. Other simple systems are activated on a timer. This means that the ReCooler HP gives a more reliable operation. active defrost system The active defrost system is basically the same as the passive system but the unit is fitted with an electric heater to help the defrosting. Technical data ReCooler HP is available in the unit sizes given in the table below. Nominal airflow rates, heating capacity, cooling capacity, COP and EER are tabulated there. For accurate and specific data our selection program Acon should be used. The heat pump will then proceed in normal operation. After a stop the compressor will be held off for a period of 10 minutes before being allowed to restart in order to protect the compressor by limiting the number of starts to 3 per hour. When switching from heating to cooling or vice versa the signal should be reduced to 0V and held at that for at least 15 minutes before initiating the other signal. The full range of sizes (008 to 072) of ReCooler HP fall into the range between 5 and 50 tonnes of CO2 which means that they must be leak tested once every 12 months. This is the responsibility of the end user/operator. Technical Catalogue ReCooler HP EQKR 9 unit arrangements It is not possible to have more than one additional heating coil in the unit when the unit is supplied with integrated controls. So if the unit is supplied from the factory with integrated controls (STEQ) then it may have either a pre-heater or a reheater but not both. passive defrost system When the pressure drop reaches defrost set point the circuit is reversed for a short period of time 5 minutes so that the condensing heat can defrost the exhaust coil. Defrosting will occur while the outdoor temperature is below -5 C. Available Options The ReCooler HP is available in left and right hand version. The supply air may be in the bottom or top deck. The unit is available only in a double deck version with horizontal counter flow airstreams. The rotor is available in either the Semco sorption version or the non hygroscopic version. A split version is available for unit sizes 008 to 032. When delivered in split version the refrigerant circuit is fitted with shut off valves and connectors. The refrigerant is pumped down to the compressor side. Installation is thus quite simple but does require a qualified refrigeration engineer. 900 mm 500 mm active defrost system For low outdoor temperatures, below -15 C, an electric defroster is fitted between the rotary heat exchanger and the exhaust coil in order to give a rapid defrost. RECOOLER HP UNIT WITH ADDITIONAL HEATER IN THE SUPPLY AIR Two voltage versions are available: 3x400V 50Hz and 3x230V 50Hz A reheater can be used in cold climate to heat the supply air when the ReCooler HP is in defrosting mode. Accessories EQAZ-08 Water trap Two water traps are needed; one for each coil drain tray.
