Enhancing Attawandaron Park # M001 This project idea proposes to involve and empower members of the Attawandaron neighbourhood to get involved in discussions with City staff about ways to enhance the Attawandaron Park to better serve the neighbourhood. Consultation ideas include exploring the opportunities for developing a children s play park and a community garden as a gathering place with elements for all ages. N Cost Costs and Include: Budget Breakdown Meeting space costs, food for the meeting(s) and mailing notices of the meeting(s). 1 bike rack with concrete pad $1500 Total: $500 3 bike racks $3000 TOTAL: $4500 Conceptual illustration Attawandaron Park North facing view Enhancing Attawandaron Park with a play park and community garden will contribute to promoting opportunities for youth activity while promoting better community cohesion to improve neighbourhood safety. Community consultations in the design of Attawandaron Park improvements will improve neighbourhood communication and community building. Working with City planning staff and the Ontario Museum of Archaeology offers positive opportunities for improving cohesion and building collaborative partnerships that could improve and enrich Attawandaron neighbourhood relations, with lasting social and cultural benefits from improved communications between neighbours. Attawandaron Park is the only park close to this neighbourhood so a playground would be desired by the children of this neighbourhood (see drawing above). Amenities like a community garden will: beautify the neighbourhood; improve community connections and promote understanding between neighbours; encourage diversity and inclusion of the diversity of residents in the neighbourhood; and enhance and improve an existing green space for neighbourhood usage and quality of life.

Beach Volleyball Court # M002 With the goal of increased outdoor activities in the Medway community, this proposal is to build a beach volleyball court in Chesham Heights Park Cost and Budget Breakdown Cost and Budget $15,000 for installation of the volleyball court and equipment 1 bike rack with concrete pad $1500 3 bike racks $3000 TOTAL: $4500 Individuals and families in the Medway area will be able to use the volleyball court in Spring, Summer and Fall. A number of local schools within the vicinity will also be able to participate in using the court. This court will bring a broad spectrum of the community together to increase participation in physical activity, and stimulate social interactions to increase the overall wellbeing of the community neighbourhood. Neighbourhood Benefits Beach volleyball courts have been used in other communities within London to provide the opportunity for many community members of all ages to get together to be active and social. Informal volleyball games can be set up so anyone can learn how to play and participate. As well, members may participate in City beach volleyball leagues. What a great way to participate in a fun game, get fit, have a good time while making new friends. October 29, 2016 Banting High School 10am 2pm

Bell Box Beautification # M003 Continue decorating the Bell utility boxes in the neighbourhood with colourful designs to make long lasting pieces of art. One box with artist work and wrap $1,500 5 boxes TOTAL = $7,500 Art on the utility boxes in the neighbourhood will beautify the neighbourhood as well as prevent graffiti and vandalism. Looking at the boxes will increase pride in the neighbourhood. A similar project was funded through SPARKS in 2016. This project received a very positive response.

Jaycee Park Enhancements # M004 Enhance Jaycee Park with new benches and shade trees. Bench and cement pad - $1,500 x 2 Tree - $1,000 x 5 Tree mulch, planting TOTAL: $9,800.00 Benches will allow residents to sit and enjoy the park or perhaps meet friends for conversation. Older adults can rest, parents can watch their children and all can be in the park, making the park a safe and enjoyable space. Trees will provide much needed shade for picnics or respite from the hot sun, not to mention their beauty and air quality contributions.

Dog Waste Station in Parks # M005 Provision of a dog waste station in Gainsborough Meadows Park as a pilot project to encourage the city to expand this program. Dog owners will be able to access bags for their pet s waste and deposit in the waste collection bin. Pilot location to be located in Gainsborough Meadows Park. Purchase of Station Installation of the station TOTAL: $1,000.00 Having these dog waste stations will increase the likelihood of dog owners removing their pet s waste in and around parks that have these amenities. Our neighbourhood will be cleaner and pet owners happier. Dog stations have been installed in other City parks both successfully and unsuccessfully.. Residents must be part of the care and maintenance by being willing to assist with restocking of provided bags, removing graffiti and reporting vandalism. The dog station must be near a road for pick up of the waste.

Outside Water Fountain at Medway Arena # M006 A water access on the outside wall of Medway Arena that people can access for themselves and their pets while enjoying the Medway Splash Pad, Playground and Skateboard Park. Unit -$8,000.00 Plumbing, a concrete pad to sit the fountain on and miscellaneous cutting, patching and site restoration would be approximately $3500.00 TOTAL: $11,500.00 Residents will have access to safe drinking water for hydration of people and pets.

A. L. Furanna Park Improvements # M007 This proposal involves adding a picnic table, a park bench and a bike rack to A.L. Furanna Park. Trimming of cedar trees on the park property. Cost Costs and Include: Budget Breakdown Bench and concrete pad - $2,400 Picnic table - $3,500 Bike rack - $1,500 1 bike rack with concrete pad $1500 Small pathway for accessibility - $5,000 3 bike racks $3000 TOTAL: $12,400 TOTAL: $4500 These bike racks would encourage people to ride their bike rather than drive their car, and provide a safer option for the community to lock up their bikes. The picnic table and bench give people a place to relax or to sit and chat with friends and neighbours. Park amenities must be accessible. The bench, picnic table and bike rack must be on or at the end of a path so that people can safely get to them.

Jaycee Ball Park Bleachers # M008 Proposal to upgrade the bleacher seating at the ball diamond in Jaycee Park. New metal bleachers TOTAL: $15,000 Fans of baseball can enjoy the view of the game on a comfortable seat with a great sight line to the field.

Jaycee and Medway Park Enhancements # M009 This proposal was submitted by children who want to improve their neighbourhood parks. Their feasible ideas included a fountain, welcome sign and picnic tables. The fountain idea can be found at idea # M006. This proposal is for a picnic table at Medway Park and a Welcome Sign at Jaycee Park. Welcome sign community board - $3,000 Picnic tables at the splash pad - $2,400 TOTAL - $5,400 Improvements to the local parks will increase visitors which in turn increases safety and overall well-being. Children will benefit from play and outside air.

Little Library Share # M010 Small library structures to share books in and around the neighbourhood. People can leave a book or take a book. This will be located in Jaycee Park. Library Builder Kit - $800 TOTAL: $800 This idea increases accessibility to books and reading materials and is a cost saving to those who tend to purchase their books. This is a great re-use initiative and it builds and encourages community. The submitter of this idea would like to build these library boxes themselves.

Nature in Medway Benches & Signage # M011 The idea is to install Interpretative Signage in specifically designated area along the Medway Heritage Forest ESA hiking trails with benches so people can slow down from their fast paced lives and enjoy the smells and sounds of nature. $2,400 per bench x3 $1,500 per sign x4 TOTAL: $13,200 The Friends of Medway Creek understand that connecting people to nature in such a way can reduce many of life's stressors, such as depression and certain diseases. This will only strengthen the neighbourhood. This proposal is an effort by the Friends of Medway Creek who work closely with Upper Thames River Conservation Authority.

Park Sign of Neighbourhood Amenities # M012 Proposed sign in Maple Grove Park that shows all of the amenities close by or in other neighbourhood parks. Sign and Installation TOTAL: $5,000 The sign will help residents understand what is available to them in their neighbourhood so that if they are in a park without a feature i.e. ball diamond, they can locate one and travel there. This sign could be combined with a Welcome sign and a community information board.

Neighbourhood Identity on Traffic Boxes # M014 Create an artistic design with smaller neighbourhood names (eg. Whitehills) to be placed on a wrap that will decorate traffic utility boxes. Locations include SW corner Wonderland Rd and Blackacres Blvd, NW corner of Gainsborough Rd and Coronation Dr and the SE corner of Gainsborough Rd and Aldersbrook Rd. Artist design 3M Wrap Installation $2,000 per box x 3 TOTAL: $6,000 This project will provide a sense of neighbourhood pride and identity by connecting people to their unique community. It will help residents and visitors appreciate the distinct personality of different areas. It will also create more interesting neighbourhoods through public art inspired by local residents suggestions. This project would involve residents supplying the neighbourhood name and images they feel represent the neighbourhood. Artist would be hired to produce the image for the wrap and the Arts and Culture office would support the process along with Roads and Transportation.

Picnic Table for Community Garden # M015 There is a community garden at West Park Church that serves as a wonderful gathering place for the community. This proposal is for a picnic table to be placed at the garden so people can sit and connect with each other. Picnic Table with concrete pad TOTAL: $3,500 The picnic table will serve as a meeting place at the garden. It can be used for picnics, a place to meet neighbours and a quiet spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

The Polar Express # M016 High Schools students wish to start a tradition at Saint André Bessette Secondary School by holding a fund and gift raising event called the Polar Express. Funding is required to rent a large bus, purchase snacks and warm drinks. A parade, games and snacks will draw residents to the event and people will be invited to donate gifts and money that will be given to families at elementary schools in this community. Bus rental - $500 Print Ads - $250 Gift packaging - $150 Food (full breakfast) - $750 Wood and paint to construct a wooden train - $250 Decorations, craft supplies, games, prizes - $600 TOTAL: $2,500 This event will invite people to come and celebrate the Christmas season, and make a difference. This event truly promotes inclusivity and an opportunity to unite and make our community a better place. Schools in the neighbourhood include Emily Carr Public School and Saint Marguerite D'Youville Catholic Elementary School.

Street Aesthetics Upgrade # M017 Propose to have flags on the lamp posts/telephone poles to beautify the corridor of Sarnia and Wonderland areas that border the Sherwood Forest Mall area. Flags and art work for 10 flags - $6,000 Installation - $1,000 TOTAL: $,7000 Depending on the flag artwork or script, these flags could help with way-finding or recognizing assets in the neighbourhood as well as beautification.

Tennis Court Backboard # M018 This proposal involves installing an 8 foot high plywood backboard at the South end of one of the tennis courts in A. L. Furanna Park at the corner of Wychwood Park and Lawson Rd. Cost and Budget Costs Breakdown Include: Backboard $2,000 1 bike rack TOTAL: with concrete $2,000pad $1500 3 bike racks $3000 TOTAL: $4500 The backboard will allow individual players to practice when there are no other players on the court.

The community comes to the church 3-4 times a week for conversational English and the many weekly programs for children, youth, and adults There are many community events throughout the year. Install bike rack with concrete pad by the West Park church soccer fields and 3 bike racks by the main entrances of the church. 1 bike rack with concrete pad - $1,500 3 bike racks - $3,000 TOTAL: $4,500 These bike racks would encourage people to ride their bike rather than drive their car, and provide a safer option for the community to lock up their bikes. They currently use a pole, sign or leave them unlocked. The property surrounding West Park Church is used by the community throughout the week.
