Safety instructions This appliance complies with the safety regulations and directives in effect at the time of manufacture. This appliance is designed for domestic use only. In case of professional use, inappropriate use or failure to comply with the instructions, the manufacturer accepts no responsibility and the guarantee does not apply. This appliance should not be used by persons (including children) with physical, mental or sensorial disabilities, or persons without knowledge of the appliance, unless they are supervised by a responsible adult who is familiar with these instructions. Do not let children play with the appliance. Connecting to the power supply Do not use the appliance if the product or the cord is damaged, if the appliance has fallen or shows visible damage or does not work properly. In the event of the above, return your the appliance to the point of purchase. Do not take the appliance apart yourself. Always plug the appliance into an earthed socket. Mains cord Preparing the steamer Before first use Clean the water tank with a damp soft cloth - fig.1. Wash all the removable parts using a sponge, warm water and washing up liquid. Rinse and dry carefully. Keep away from any objects which could be damaged by the steam. Do not use any seasoning or any other liquid than water in the tank. Never plug in the appliance when there is no water in the tank. Filling the water tank Place the base unit on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface. To fill the water tank, pour the water directly into the water tank, up to the maximum level - fig.2. Place the juice collector on the tank until firmly in place - fig.3. Use fresh water with each use. Positioning the removable bases The steam baskets have bases which can be removed to obtain a larger cooking space or to cook larger food - fig.4. To position the removable bases: Take a basket in your hand. Take a base the right side up in the other hand (clips towards the bottom). Centre the base inside the basket. Push on the clip of the base until the clips are locked into place - fig.5. Do the same thing with the other side. To remove the bases, push up from underneath. Depending on your needs, you can use your steamer with 1,2 or 3 bowls - fig.6. Place the food in the bowls. Put on the bowls on the juice collector. Then put on the lid, which fits all bowls. - fig.6. Do not immerse the tank/base unit or water tank when cleaning in water. Fitting the bowls To cook rice Put the rice and the water in the rice bowl - fig.7. Place the rice in the steam basket, cover with the lid to cook. To cook eggs Place the eggs in the built-in egg holders, cover with the lid to cook - fig.8. 3

At the end of cooking time, the timer rings, the cooking indicator light switches off and the red Keep Warm indicator light goes on. The Keep warm Function can last 1:00 hour. To stop the product, turn the knob to the position No. The Keep warm Function follows the steam cycle. During steam cooking the cooking indicator light switch is on. It switches off when there is no steam left in the appliance. Warning: During the 15 first minutes of the Keep Warm functioning, there is no light cooking indicator but the keep warm function is activated. Serving Steam is hot, use oven gloves to lift the lid - fig.15. Remove the steam basket using a cloth or oven gloves. Place it on the upturned lid or a plate - fig.16. If you have used the rice bowl, remove it carefully with oven gloves, holding it by the sides. Serve. Check that the appliance has completely cooled down before emptying the juice collector and the water tank. Unplug the appliance. Let it cool completely before cleaning. We advise that you place larger food or food requiring a longer cooking time in the lower bowl. Cooking times are approximate and use the lower basket, unless stated otherwise. Times may vary depending on the amount of food, size of the food, the space between the food, using a different bowl level and individual preferences. For larger or smaller quantities, adjust the cooking time accordingly. Cooking times may be increased when using more than one bowl to steam food. Check food near the end of cooking, especially vegetables and fruit, as an extra few minutes can result in over cooked food. FISH - SHELLFISH FOOD TYPE AMOUNT COOKING TIME RECOMMENDATIONS Thin fillet of fish (cod, plaice, sole, salmon, haddock...) Fresh 450 g 8-10 min. Frozen 450 g 10-15 min. Evenly space fish fillets. Steamer Simply Invent GBv6 27/11/06 18:50 Page 8 Cleaning and maintenance Cleaning the appliance Once the appliance has completely cooled down, empty the tank and wipe it clean with a soft damp cloth - fig.17. Do not put the tank/base in the dishwasher. All the other removable parts can be put in the dishwasher - fig.18. Note: Some natural strong coloured juices from food such as carrots, beetroot may cause staining in the juice collector and the water tank. This is normal and will not effect cooking. To try and avoid staining, wash these two parts immediately after each use. You may also use mild bleach if necessary and rinse thoroughly. Descaling For best results, descale the appliance after approximately 8 uses. Take out the juice collector. Fill the hollow of the heating element with 250 ml of white vinegar and add 500 ml of water. Leave overnight to descale. Rinse out the inside of the water tank with warm water several times. Storing the bowls Do not use other scaleremoving products Put the rice bowl upside down in the juice collector. Stack the baskets one inside the other. Turn all parts over on the base unit. Put the lid over them all. Do not use abrasive cleaning products or sponges; Do not immerse the water tank/power base in water Environment protection first!
