ICE Coastal Management 2019 Joining forces to shape our future coasts 24-26 September 2019, La Rochelle, France Supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to meet the 2030 global targets:
Learn about new approaches to coastal engineering Coastal zone management is a constantly evolving challenge. A wide range of coastal professionals are under increasing pressure to manage the competing demands of environmental protection, population growth and climate change. Working collaboratively across professional, organisational, and national boundaries is increasingly important to achieve this. In turn, this requires understanding of the latest research and techniques. As part of the ICE Knowledge Water Programme 2019, over 200 coastal management professionals will join forces at the ninth ICE Coastal Management conference in La Rochelle to focus on new approaches to coastal engineering that integrate planning and place-shaping. This year, there will be a huge focus on encouraging bold adaptation to coastal change whilst also balancing environmental and community concerns. Why attend? NEW FOR 2019 ½ DAY TECHNICAL SITE VISIT to La Faute Sur Mar included in the conference experience 9 th conference in the series spanning over 34 years 120 abstracts submitted from 30 countries 2 days of multi stream content Become part of an international audience with 200+ industry professionals 10+ hours of networking Specialist exhibition 1 drinks reception 50 peer reviewed papers and 30 posters to be presented 1 gala dinner 2

The storm claimed a number of lives and caused hundreds of millions of Euros damage. Poor maintenance of some of the area s coastal defence infrastructure was blamed in part for these effects, but in addition to renewed structural investment, the event also called for improved emergency response procedures and immediate adaptation of coastal communities to coastal risk. This caused controversy with local authorities and communities, and has stimulated a lot of new thinking and new approaches to coastal management in France across a variety of professions. The site visit will include locations that were hardest hit by Storm Xynthia as well as places where a variety of different schemes have been constructed in response. 5
Meet peers from across the industry The conference gathers over 200 professionals active in defending our coastlines and advancing coastal management and practices, whether through research, planning, projects, construction, development or maintenance.
