I have chosen a range of finishes for the furniture including wood, glass, marble and textiles to give the space a sophisticated feel. The black, white, neutral beige and brown will be complimented with the addition of decorative accessories in red and gold which will add warmth to the space. Pattern and texture has been included to give interest and create focal points within the room. I have bought some natural elements into the space with the use of artworks featuring flowers and leaves and adding potted plants. This will give the room and relaxed feeling. I have chosen a round coffee table, side table and rug to compliment the curve in the sofa. The colours of these items blend with many of the others in the space. Jimmy Possum makes such bold statement pieces and I thought this would make a perfect reading chair in the corner of the space as a focal piece. In my proposed designs I have placed a floor lamp in behind the chair to provide light to read by. I have chosen this sofa to ensure the fireplace is the focus of the space, but to also allow conversation when entertaining people/clients. The fabric type and colour I have chosen is Portland in Sandstone to compliment the beige carpet that has been chosen. It ties all the other pieces of furniture in the space together, as I have chosen items with one or two of these materials. I have chosen a marble fireplace surround to give both a European and sophisticated feel and look. There is a lot of carved stone incorporated into European architecture. I have also selected a console table with a white marble top to compliment the fireplace colour and texture.
This credenza combines many of the elements from the room together in one piece, with its chrome, lacquer and wood finish. I have also included a couple of potted plants to replicate the relaxing feel and bring in a natural/outdoor element. With many of the decoration accessories I wanted to bring in a touch of colour and by using red it has given warmth to the space. There has also been a lot of texture and pattern introduced to give interest. With the lighting in this room I have chosen a couple of patterned pieces to give interest to the space. The other pieces I have kept plain as they have been coupled with a bold piece of furniture and I didn t want them to detract from those pieces. The artworks I have chosen are from nature to bring in an element of calm and to help make the space relaxing. These images are both from my Autumn Scanner Art Collection.
